A-Poured into a snifter. It pours a ruby/amber/rose with a semi-thick white head that dissipates rather quickly. Not much lacing.
S-Somewhat musty, grapes/wine, and some malt
T-hop bitterness, light red wine/red grape flavors, the slightest hint of sourness, that ends with a graham cracker finish. Its crisp, clean, and refreshing. The hop bitterness is rather mild compared to other ipas. It is very different and I expected a stronger IPA presence. To me it tastes like a white zinfandel (minus the sweetness) blended with a hoppy beer, which is similar to what they are going for. Also, the hint of sourness made me think this would be a nice introduction into sour beers.
M-somewhat thin, but it does have a nice amount of carbonation
D-easy to drink, but it doesn't seem like a beer one would really session. It seems more of a sipper and that it might be good to pair with food.
Overall, this is an interesting beer that I would drink again. I'm not sure it should be compared with other IPAs because its completely different from the typical IPA experience. However, its a solid beer.

12oz. bottle poured into pub glass.
A: I wasn't expecting this pour... A cranberry hue with hints of amber around the edges. A purple-tinged white head stands at about 1 1/2 fingers in stature and faded quickly to a bubbly cap, leaving one or two instances of lacing down the glass.
S: Smell is of red wine and subdued grapefruit with hints of sweet, bready malts. Grape is a little too overwhelming for me.
T: Much like the nose, the red grape flavor is the dominating flavor. Hints of grapefruit peek through. The malt is primarily hidden and doesn't make an appearance, and some grassy bitterness comes through in the middle before fading back that red wine profile. Aftertaste is slightly sweet, resembling fresh grape juice and sugar.
M: Not too much to ramble about here. Medium body not offering much. Carbonation is effervescent and lively and pairs well with the overall wine-like flavors.
O: While I'm not blown away, this is a solid and interesting offer from Dogfish Head. It doesn't trump 60-minute and perhaps it should be called "fifty-nine" because it's definitely a notch below, but I enjoyed the medley of red wine flavors and the juicy, citrusy hop profile. Worth a try if you're into IPAs and are looking for an interesting spin-off.
