look: 3.75 | smell: 4 | taste: 3.5 | feel: 3.25 | overall: 3.5

Appearance: pinkish/copper, like a rosee wine; small white head, long lasting; very effervescent; different

Smell: piney hops over sweet malts and grape juice notes, almost like muscadines; smells great

Taste: very dry hoppy start with not a lot of flavor lingering around; much more like a dry red wine than beer to me; not bad, but I expected more malt backbone

Mouthfeel: a bit too zippy with lots of carbonation

Remarks: not bad, but probably wouldn't seek it out again

12 oz bottle served cold into a Mill Street pint glass. Purchased while visiting in the US.

Appearance - Pours a very hazy coppery / red color beer with hint so pink. Small half finger of white head rests on top. Pretty decent retention.

Smell - Some light citrus hops, plenty of grape and a fair amount of caramel malt. Not a lot else, but the way it's put together is reasonably complex. Nice aromas from the bottle though with grape coming through in spades.

Taste - Grape up front then metallic with little hop presence at all. Tastes a little stale and musty. Very moderate bitterness and more sour (probably from the grape).

Mouthfeel - Smooth with a bit of a sticky body and low carbonation.

Overall - Sixty-One isn't a bad beer by any stretch but the lack of hop presence is definitely new to me. Would for this to be more bitter as opposed to flavor-wise approaching a fruit beer.

Edit * - Noticed after the fact that this beer was bottled at the end of 2014. Will attempt to procure a fresher sample since this isn't too fair to the beer. Now, given that it's held up this well after a year an a half, I'm rather impressed.

Almost a redwood reddish brown. Smells of musty grapes. Tastes of grapes with a hint of pine. Fairly sugary. Dense with a musty, tangy aftertaste that does not go away. Overall, this tastes like beer mixed with wine, and the parts don't come together in any cohesive way. Will not be having again.

The beer has a pale reddish tint to it with mahogany, rusty orange, and and amber tints. The clarity of the beer is slightly clear. The head is one finger high with average retention. The head is light tan in color with some foamy and creamy attributes. Overall it is a decent showing.

Nose on the is hoppy, resin, grapefruit, lemons, perfume, pine and resin. Lightly toasted malts and some yeast notes. A subtle hint of fruitiness on the back end.

A hoppy profile but not one I would expect from DFH. The hops is grapefruit, resin pine and floral. It does have a wine characteristic like vinegar. The malt is hidden and barely noticeable .

The mouth feel is astringent, and carbonated.

Overall this beer disappointed me. I think the hop profile and the malt backbone could be something much better. It said and IPA I felt it was a wanna be PA. the grapes came through and gave it a fruity bitterness like vinegar, I am sorely disappointed in DFH. I know they are capable of better.

A - Burgundy, clear, with a short cast of white that laces mildly.

S - A hint of grape, a definite spike of pine, and a hint of funk and minerality.

T - A bright fruit front, a bitter hit of both hop and grape skins, and a trail suggesting lime skin and stone.

M - Thin, clean, with a mild bitterness in the close.

O - This sum is not as good as the parts. The fruit is good, the bitter IPA elements solid, and yet in their melding, something is somewhat lacking. Decent but not as good as some of DFH's other beer-grape hybrids.

A pretty ruby colored beer with no head.
A sweet fruit aroma.
Taste of grape, with a little bit of late piney hops.
Light, a little bit tart.
Not a beer I would drink again.

Poured from a bottle into a pint glass.

Appearance: Purple in color with a thin white head, very different appearance then I expected.

Smell: Not much for scent, mild fruity smell.

Mouthfeel/Taste: Smooth medium bodied. Taste of pine notes and hops, maybe a bit a sour after taste.

Overall: Not the best I've had, probably would not get this one again.

This mediocre beer is, unexpectedly, one of the reasons I love this brewery! Is it a beer for wine lovers? A wine gateway for beer lovers? Something else entirely? Who cares? As a beer lover and wine liker, it's not really great enough to recommend to anyone as anything other than a curiosity beer, but as a curiosity beer, it's fantastic!

It pours a fizzy, zippy, pinkish purple color that already looks like what you'd expect it to. Little head and no lacing, but the body keeps plenty of carbonation on hand to make it a crisp and refreshing beer. Unfortunately, the flavor and mouthfeel is a bit too dry to be truly refreshing - I was expecting a hoppy wine cooler-type drink, and this isn't sweet or fruity enough. Between the choice of syrah grapes - which typically have a fruity, but not jammy character and a lot of spice and tannins - and the hopping, what we have is a beer that has some grape, blackberry, and plum flavors, plus some pepper and heavy tannic quality from the must, and some piney, citrusy, and finally bitter character from the hops. Smell is much the same.

This tastes like an experiment, and not a spectacularly well-executed one. It reminds me a bit of a more professionally-done version of some college-age drunk mixing some wine beer and calling it his new favorite crappy party drink. Buuut, this isn't crappy. It's actually pretty interesting. At some points, the flavors blend together too much while still contrasting, and you have sweet and bitter, grapes and hops, all fighting for space on the palate. Instead of a complex, multi-dimensional beer with lots of notes coming together in harmony like a Mozart symphony, you have a cacophony of noise like a Sonic Youth rock-out. It's fun, it's interesting, it's reasonably tasty, but it's also flawed, half-baked, and not something I'd drink too regularly.

Reddish/slightly purple/ brown concoction with an extremely foamy head. very airy bubbles, not tight whatsoever.

Smells like grape juice to me, and even the foam (it started to overflow) tasted like grapes/wine.
There is definitely a tartness to it as well.

This stuff is unique, and good.. but I do not see how this is an IPA. The grape flavor overpowers anything else, which is not a bad thing. I love me some grape juice.

L: clear reddish color, hint of purple
S: grapefruit
T: light citrus and grape flavors; not bitter at all for an IPA
F: light/thin & easy to drink, not too carbonated

I was a little wary at first as it looked kind of weird, but I actually liked it a lot. I might have to buy a 6 pack of this at some point.

(bottled 10/01/15... let sit out for 15 min before opening... poured into a Chouffe tulip)

L: fairly clear, wine red liquid - beautiful color and jewel glow... foam over a finger-width high, lightly tinged pink, and doesn't really hold all that well

S: gotta say, first whiff, it smells like 60 Min - evergreen, toasted oats, underlying hint of pineapple... the wine comes through like faint esters, no grape/wine-ness nor fruity sweetness... overall, I feel like some elements are cancelling each other out, things getting muted... the hop aromas are lovely, perhaps given a different overall shade from the must... altogether, a tad messy

T: mostly the wine up front with lingering mint-like bitterness, naked bready brewing grain, and malt liquor maltiness big in the finish... the aftertaste is a strange mix of bitter and earthy hops, wort, booze, and a Boone's Farm grape flavor... seems relatively dry, the hops really stand out but lack dimension

F: a little past light-medium in body - there seems to be a slight roundness in the middle... the carbonation nips a little, and it flows and finishes rather light and quite dry, so if you're diggin' the taste, it's easy-drinking enough to send ya back for another

O: 61 is and apt name for this - it pretty much tastes like a 60 Min with a twist - 'Cold Dog' might be a good name, too, though it lacks zazz... I like the experiment here - it might grow on me, and it might work better with 90 Min... had it on tap last year, wasn't digging it - maybe a lame batch?... since I've got a sweet tooth for 60 Min, I could see trying this again, maybe at their pub

Pours a nice plum-tinged medium brown. Little head, zero lacing.

I smell no grapes, must or otherwise. Smells like a typical IPA. Taste is pleasant, though and I DO catch the hints of grapes there. Just the right amount. Mouthfeel is fairly thin. Overall, nice enough. Not as distinctive as I had hoped. Not one of the better efforts from this brewery...but passable.

11-5-15 drinking 12 oz. bottle packaged on 6-5-15. L: I pours a beautiful, bright brilliant burgundy under a 1” off-white rapidly dissipating foam cap that produces a latticework of lace. S: An initial grape nose seasoned with hop spice cedes to an even balance between grape, malt, and hop aromas. T: The attack starts with grape, malt and a hop bitterness on the finish. There is an interesting meld of flavors with a definite Syrah character sweetened with light malt and seasoned with fruit and citrus hop flavors. Has an artful balance. F: Medium body and carbonation. O: This is an interesting and enjoyable beer to drink. It does not have a lot of IPA character but is still a nice beer.

Type: 12-oz. bottle
Glass: Clear hotel glass
From: Cottonwood Liquors in Fort Collins, Colo.
Price: $10.99 for a 4-pack
Purchased: Oct. 30, 2015
Consumed: Oct 30, 2015
Misc.: Bottled on Aug. 20, 2015 at 4:28 p.m.

Poured a caramel, light purple, clear color with 2-to-3 fingers of a tinge of purple, khaki white head. Lots of bubbles coming up from the bottom of the glass. Good amount of semi-layered uneven foamy lacing on the sides of the glass. Great retention. (Sight - 4.00)

Smelled grape, plum, dark fruit, earthy malts, floral and light buttery malts. (Smell - 3.50)

Taste followed the nose for the most part, getting purple grape, plum, dark fruit, floral, light Syrah grape, earthy malts and buttery malts. (Taste - 3.25)

Medium-to-light body. Thin texture. Average carbonation. Abrupt finish. (Feel - 3.25)

Nope. This was just not good. A good attempt at something different though. (Overall - 3.25)

Overall: This beer definitely has a grape aroma. This is an interesting take on the normal brew. Earthy and citrusy hops. Caramel maltiness. Awesome extra layer of goodness with the grape in there. It works very well.

Had this as part of a beer flight from the Hops & Barley kiosk at the 2015 EPCOT Food & Wine Festival.
Looks very interesting; red to purple body with a thin light head.
Smells like it says it should; hoppy with a definite sour grape presence.
Taste is nice at first, but that Syrah grape must just adds too much of an unwanted flavor on the palate for me.
Full mouth feel with that hop and grape presence lingering, not realy pleasant to me.
Overall, I was very intrigued to try this and was disappointed in the taste and the lingering after taste. I didn't like that the grapes kind of overpowered the hops and didn't add anything pleasing to me. This was a miss for me and I won't be trying this one again.

Very pretty clear deep red from the grapes but with a small head. Nice lacing on the surface though. Smell has some grapes and even more hops, as you might expect, but it isn't too assertive. Taste is very interesting- it's hop profile is assertive and creates an IPA feel. But there is a definite grape taste here too. It works, surprisingly. Medium to full bodied. Overall, very good and interesting IPA/wine hybrid.

It's called an IPA but you'll be hard pressed to find another IPA that tastes quite like this one. It pours a deep, fairly dark orange with rose colored highlights. Must be from the grape skins? Head is really attractive because of these pale pinkish red accents.

Definitely a vinous wine like character in the nose. There is a really interesting aroma here that I just can't pin down. It changes as the beer warms up and becomes more available. It's almost like a chilled Pinot noir if that is a thing. Hop aromas aren't readily apparent.

Flavor wise there is not much in the way of bitterness and the malt profile is decidedly non-grainy. Such a different beer in that sense. It doesn't finish like an IPA at all.

This is more nuanced fruit beer than IPA as far as I'm concerned. Temper your expectations going into it and you might find a pretty interesting brew.

Pours a really cool transparent brownish purple. About a finger of off white head. Fades quick.

Smells like grape soda. Fruity, sweet, very mild citrusy hops. Caramely malts.

Taste is where this one starts to lose me. Very wine-like. Lots of grape, sweet maltiness, mild hop floavors. Slight citrus, even slighter pine.

Mouthfeel is almost light, with a fairly high level carbonation compared to what I'm used to.

Overall, it tastes too much like a wine cooler for me to enjoy it as an IPA.

On tap at Mr. Brew's in downtown Madison, Wisconsin. Served in a snifter glass. Pours a medium purple-brown body, one finger white head with fair retention. Some splotchy lacing disappears fairly quickly. Smells of caramel malt, toffee, strong grape juice-like character, a bit of earth and mustiness. It's interesting, but not particularly compelling. Flavour is caramel, toffee, a lot of grapes, a strange mustiness, earthy bitterness. It's a very unique flavour profile that doesn't quite fit my standard vocabulary. Mouthfeel is medium-thinner bodied with an earthy finish. I don't think I could drink more than one of these in a sitting. Overall, it's interesting but certainly is an off-centered beer worth drinking once in a while, but for me, not on the regular.

Drank from the bottle so gave it slightly above average 3.5 looks since its a DFH brew. Kind of hard to smell from the bottle, but inhaled enough to state it's very musty with more yeast and cracker than hops; some very mild spices come through, but it's really musty and fruity smelling which seems sweet overall. Tastes old, best way to describe it is like a lager sitting too long in your grandfather's fridge or a fresh beer with green grapes that turned brown and started to rot. After that initial flavor there is quite a bit of malty biscuit, graham cracker, chalky yeast, mild floral hops and light spices like coriander and pepper. It's almost like the base beer wants to jump through the suppressing grape must, but just can't make it through. Barnyard funk and frost brewed vegetables seem to sweep through at the end to just make it confusing. This was a nice light beer with mild carbonation, a medium body and a slightly bitter finish that was pretty dry....however, it was so far removed from the classic and delicious base beer that it had to be a disappointment. It's not a bad beer, just a letdown to me since its a Dogfish Head and I thought the added fruit would make for a more dynamic 60 Minute. Oh well, I tried it.

Deep pink-purple red clearly shows addition of grapes.
Not much smell.
Tastes like a run-of-the-mill IPA with grapes added. So the bitter from the hops is balanced with a little sweet and tart.
Overall, maybe a good gateway to IPAs for people who prefer wine to beer. For those who like beer, an interesting change.

12 oz bottle poured into Spiegelau glass bottled on 5/6

A: small soapy head nice light red grape color to it looks like a white zin around the edges

S: huge grape smell almost smells like a wine cooler with the maltiness to it and the fruity grape

T: lots of a nice grape taste some maltiness and a touch of bitterness

M: medium mouth on it lowish carbonation not in your face

O: pretty tasty beer really nice addition of the grape musk a little too malty for an IPA but 60 minute was a sweeter maltier IPA. Not bad at all reminds me more of a wine cooler instead of beer

On tap, poured into a snifter. The aroma is sour, fermented fruit - sangria-like - with some floral tea hints. It pours a deep, clear, red mahogany with a thin foam head that has good retention and a light lace. The taste is a medium bitter and sweet with a light sourness. The beer is slick and fuzzy with a medium body that's similar to a dry, red wine with some light citrus and berries and it finishes smooth, dry, and clean with a red wine cloyingness and an aftertaste that's lightly wine, astringent, and tart
