The pear juice brings a nice fruity sweetness to an otherwise dry, crisp, euro lager. But it also muddles the clean, crisp "break" you get from good examples of this style, like Weihenstephaner, SA Noble Pils or Scrimshaw.
This may make for a good spring/summer refresher, but it was not quite the effervescent palate cleanser I was looking for in between stouts and barleywines this winter. The mouthfeel is a bit heavier and wetter than you might hope/expect, due to the pear sweetness.
And why can't anyone bottle a pale euro lager without that skunky Heineken smell?
I give DFH somewhere between a C+ and a B- for their efforts. Let's call it an 80%
