A Perry-Pils hybrid, Piercing Pils is a Czech Style Pilsner brewed with a White Pear Tea and Pear juice. Both the juice and the tea were added in the kettle during the whirlpool (after the boil) for maximum flavor and aroma contribution. The Pear fruit complexity pierces right through the spicy Czech Saaz hops beautifully, adding a gentle acidity to this pale lager that makes for a crisp refreshing sipper. Amarillo hops add nuanced citrus notes that meld perfectly with the fruit.

Look: A light gold color with a slightly darker amber hue.
Smell: Quite malty with a very subtle but fragrant backdrop of pear.
Taste: Not nearly as sweet as I expected it to be. Traditional malty flavors with a clean crisp flavor with some faint undertones of the pear and a faint hint of floral notes. Can also detect a very tiny hint of bitterness and funk in the aftertaste.
Feel: A little heavier than your average pilsner. Very moderate carbonation but also has a fairly smooth mouth feel.
Overall: I like it. It's a very pleasant beer and not what I usually expect from a pilsner, a really great change of pace. I really love the aroma. It smells complex and interesting. However, the pear flavor is a bit difficult to detect and it's quite expensive and I've only seen it come in 4 packs.

On tap at Big Fish Grille, Rehoboth Beach. This was poured into a pilsener glass. The appearance was a nice looking semi-hazy to light transparent golden color. Even with a bar pour’s kind of head, there’s a light finger’s worth of white foaminess. However, no lacing appeared as it slid down. The smell started off with the white pear encompassing into a crisp sweet corn and a nice little spice from the hops. The taste took all of those previously mentioned flavors and combined to flavor. There’s no aftertaste nor finish. On the palate, this one sat about a light on the body with a nice sessionability about it. Carbonation seemed a bit under but that didn’t bother me, just was a bit smoother. Overall, a nice Czech Pilsener with a unique quality of the white pear.

Pours a clear gold producing 2+ fingers of frothy, clumpy, somewhat lasting, white head that leaves webby sheets of chunky lacing. Aroma is crisp & dry, classic pilsner malts, clean bready grain, lemon & grassy hops & white fruitiness which I guess is the pear. Taste is classic Czech pilsner up front: pale malt, cracker/biscuit with lemony & grassy hops but is linked with some pear & other subdued fruity hints with metallic & astringent surfacing after mid-sip especially in the finish & aftertaste where there develops a heavy & lingering bitterness. Dry & clean but the drinkability is impaired slightly by the metallic & astringent quantities but still a nice & drinkable effort. The pear becomes much more apparent in both the mouth and nose as the brew warms. Certainly the most fruity Czech pilsner I've tasted. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with moderate carbonation, dry, crisp & astringent.

Aroma is light fruit, light hops, Clear Golden color. Creamy White head is lasting. Taste is tart pear. The pear pretty much dominates. Touch of hoppy aftertaste that fades to hair spray pretty quickly.Feel is creamy up front with nice carbonation underneath.

Not bad. I feel like the pear doesn?t quite fit this beer. Maybe with something stronger like an ipa or an apa, it would not take over as much. Still above average.
