My absolute favorite sour. I explain it to guests in layman's terms. It's like red wine, cider, and beer got together and created a new beer. It changes as you drink it too. Delicious!

tap

Pours a clear dark reddish brown with a white lacing for a head.

Smells of sweet and sour cherries with a hint of lactic acidity.

Tastes of sweet cherries, citrus tartness, lactic sourness, and a light pomegranate seed bitterness.

Medium body with a fizzy carbonation.

A really good sour ale that mixes some fruity sweetness in for great effect. Delicious and enjoyable to drink, definitely going to look for this again.

A: Pours a murky medium brown with hints of red. Good sized fluffy head that fades to a small island.
S: Balsamic vinegar. Musty. Brown sugar.
T: Sweet and sour but leaning more to the sweet side. Maybe it needs more time to sour? Brown sugar and vanilla. Sweet finish.
M: Good carb. Quite a round full body for a sour.
O: Nice beer but not to sour (maybe I was just expecting much more).

Duchesse de Bourgogne: (Verhaeghe), 6%; Head flavor: nutty, apple/raisin; Appearance: cola/thin coffee, red warmth; Smell: dates/jam/fig; Mouthfeel: effervescent; Taste: cola, date/prun, green apple-y sourness, molasses; good/really good; slightly sweet from the bottle, more bitter (sides of tongue) from glass, mellows as it sits.

Poured into a pint glass.

It's like eating a kobe beef hot dog with mustard and ketchup plus a berry compote on top.

Seriously...this is why I'm a fan of wild yeast. This beer is very unique. Honestly I'm a much bigger fan of this than Rodenbach. Definitely worth a try, or two.
