Notes/Commercial Description:
Silver Medal Winner 1997 World Beer Championships - Oatmeal Stouts.
Our classic dark beer. Full body and a well rounded flavor comes from a foundation of seven different grains. The oats add a special silky texture that complements the roasted malts. The rich malty flavor is spiced with plenty of Northern Brewer and Fuggles hops for balance. Enjoy this perennial Free State Favorite by itself or as a blend with one of our other beers.

A-Dark brown with ruby highlights. Thin tan head held on and reduced to leave nice lace.

S-Light roasted malts and a bit of hop spiciness....but nothing strong.

T-Dark roasty malts mixed nicely with chocolate and coffee. Flavours became much more pronounced as this warmed after serving.

M-Medium body but a bit lacking on the smooth, creamy feel I was hoping for.

D-Decent but this would be served better on nitro. A bit more body umph couldn't hurt either. Not bad but this place has better offerings.

Got to try this one courtesy of daniloknezic, thanks! Poured from the bottle into a snifter, tasting as I let it warm up from fridge temp.

Appearance is light, almost cola-like, half finger head that quickly receded, leaving a paper thin ring of bubbles around the edge.

Smells of roasted malt and oats with some chocolate. Pleasant, but not exceptional. Little bit of hoppiness starts to sneak in as it warms up.

Taste is of chocolate, roasty oatmeal, with a hint of sweetness towards the end.

Mouthfeel is extremely light for a stout, and pretty dry. Usually, I'm not a fan of that, but it works in this one. It's a nice "summer" stout. Think grilling, hiking, etc.

Overall, I'm glad I tried it, it fits a niche. I would definitely consider it again when I'm in the mood for a stout on a warm summer day.
