Silver Medal Winner 1997 World Beer Championships - India Pale Ales.

While walking through a field and enjoying a lazy summer evening, our head brewer Steve stepped on a stick that popped up and nicked his leg.

Or so he thought, until he found two puncture marks on his ankle. The copperhead bite may have caused a trip to the hospital for Steve, but it also provided just the inspiration he and Chuck needed to name their new beer – yep, one lowly snake in the grass is the namesake of one of our most popular beers.

(16 oz pub pint, on tap at the brewery)

Wow! Old school American craft ESB. Balance, boldness, bitterness all supremely dialed in. Toasty, caramelly; dry on the back end, leveled by the ripping, gypsumy bitterness... Rounded but with cut levity; resin-tonic afterglow... I'm a fan already. I could drink this all night. (2170)

Clear copper/amber color with a frothy white head that retain fairly well and produces some very nice lacing.
The aroma is caramel malt, fresh crusty bread, citrus and a hint of pine and herbal hops.
The taste is slightly sweet caramel malt, pumpernickel bread, and grapefruit. The finish is dry, crisp and lingering pine resin with a touch of herbal hops.
The body is light/medium , carbonation is a little more than moderate, very drinkable.
Altogether, this is a very tasty and refreshing brew, with somewhat more hops bitterness than a typical pale ale, but mild for an IPA, still very enjoyable and should go well with most food.

Copperhead has a medium, off-white head and a semi-clear, copper appearance, with powdery sediment, throughout. There is heavy lacing. The aroma is of spicy brown bread crust. The flavor is similar, with mild bitterness, some lemon, and tannins. Copperhead has a high-medium body and a mostly-dry finish.

I am grateful to get this beer to add to my growing numbers of trying all the states. This beer makes the 47th state. The beer is 40 degrees and served in a pint glass. The pour on the beer produced a massive two finger head that has excellent retention. The head is bright white frothy and airy. The head dissipated slowly leaving heavy lacing on the glass. The color of the beer is medium amber with a dark golden hue. The clarity of the beer is clear. Overall this is a stunning beer, except it is slightly dark for a Pale Ale. The beer is more akin to amber beer.

The aromas in the beer are lightly toasted malts, crackers, floral, citrus, a touch of herbal and a hint of pine.

The flavors in the beer are orange, floral esters, crackers, floral esters, a hint of caramel, lightly toasted malts, grapefruit, and pine.

The mouthfeel of the beer is fizzy and a tad astringent.

The body of the beer is medium-light, medium-plus carbonation, and a light finish.

This APA needs more hop flavors. The beers hop profile has this slightly over kettled beer. The beer taste closer to an amber style beer instead of APA. That said, the beer is enjoyable.

Pours a coppery color with a decent head that dissipates quickly leaving lots of lacing. On the nose mostly pine resin with a hint of caramel. Taste is piney at the start and on the finish, have a sweet malty note. Mouthfeel is medium carbonation, dry. A good balance of the hops and the malt.

Copper colored with a fingernail of beige around the rim. The nose is of lightly pine hops. I’m tasting piney hops and light malt. The mouth is easygoing and there’s a crisp finish.
