A: Orangish color with thin white head.

S: Very powerful citric orange smell. Very resinous smell.

T: Amazing!!! Taste all the hops! The taste coats the mouth. Very very citric and bitter but very balanced.

Fruit. That's the first thing you smell when you take a sniff of Lupulus Maximus. There's citrusy hops, almost like Juicyfruit gum, dancing on your nose. This sample is from a growler I picked up at the brewpub a few days ago. It's a light amber, somewhere slightly beyond gold, with no real head (again, we're dealing with a growler here). The last time I tasted this at the brewery, I got tons of fruit in the flavor, but this time out I'm getting hops. And lots of them. There's some herbal notes in the front, followed by the holy trinity of earth, pine and grass in the middle, and finally chased with citrus fruit in the finish. Malt is there to add sweetness and not much else - it's completely obliterated by the cavalcade of hops. Bitterness is pretty heavy, though not completely tongue-crushing as it is in other DIPAs. This beer is quite flavorful, and though in some ways I've moved on from uber-hoppy IPAs and DIPAs, it's beers like this that will always remind me why I fell in love with the style to begin with.
