This bold, blonde American IPA employs a healthy dose of wheat malt and generous amounts of Crystal, Centennial, and Citra hops. The hops provide a great citrusy bouquet and abundant notes of grapefruit and orange, while the wheat malt provides a crisp tartness to this lighter-bodied IPA.

Appearance: Pours a clear, dark golden/slightly amber color with a medium off-white head. SRM of 14. (4.25)

Aroma: Mild aromas of fruit upfront before a moderate sweet caramel and crystal malt backbone. Resinous, sweet, but has a light honey or crystla malt note to it as well

Flavor: Moderate flavors of pine, grapefruit, caramel upfront. Finishes with a smooth honey, caramel, and pine finish.

Feel: Body is light to medium. Carbonation is moderate, and finish is relatively light and clean for the darker malt flavors.

Overall: A lighter-bodied IPA with a darker malt flavors, but a clean finish. Some grapefruit, but this one focuses on the caramel and possibly crystal malt flavors. Drinkable and a midwest IPA. (Final Rating: 3.78)

Picked this up in Kansas over the summer when I drove across the country on U.S. 50, vowing to get at least a bottle and a can from every state that I passed through where I hadn't had one before. Kansas was pretty much it for me and this was the best of the bunch that I found at Walmart and although it didn't taste or feel like an IPA, this was fine to kick back with on this mild autumn evening!

This poured like apple cider with a good amount of haze to it and plenty of foam that slowly came out of the bottle as I threw the cap out. Needless to say, that nearly topped off my pint glass once I filled it up with the liquid as the lacing left behind was mostly in the form of a few thing rings near the top. Lots of wheat and Crystal Malt in the nose as there was a bit of floral earthiness and tart citrus underneath that, although this was quite mellow. I say that since this didn't feel like an IPA when it came to the aroma and that was true for the taste as well, between the light and British-feeling hops and lack of overt alcohol and heft. No doubt that was nice to kick back with, although the full, bready body and light carbonation ensured that this would be fairly balanced from start to finish.

A bit of apple and pear emerged as this warmed up with those notes staying on the palate as the final sips went down. A bit of caramel stickiness and citrus pith rounded out the flavor profile as this was subtly complex but never overbearing. No date was given on the bottle but the tornado on the label was a cute - and fitting - from a brewery that existed there before nearly any other. This was nothing compared to it's bigger counterparts on the coasts but as a change of pace, I welcomed it and could easily see it being Free State's flagship!

Stormchaser has a thick, off-white head and a somewhat cloudy, bubbly, orange-gold appearance, with fairly heavy lacing. The aroma is of hop resin and white bread crust. The taste is the same, with robust, but not harsh, bitterness. Stormchaser is rather thin bodied with a mostly-dry finish.

A: The beer is clear amber yellow in color - except for some small particulates floating in suspension - and has a slight amount of visible carbonation. It poured with some delicate lacing covering the surface and a narrow collar around the edge of the glass.
S: Moderate aromas of woody and citrusy hops are present in the nose.
T: The taste follows the smell, starting out with flavors of woody/spicy hops and finishes with notes of orange citrus and underlying hints of caramel malts. There is a light to moderate amount of bitterness.
M: It feels just about medium-bodied and rather crisp on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: I really enjoyed the crisp bite of this beer and the contrasting flavors of woody and citrusy hops in the taste.

Poured a clear tangerine color with slight rose hints and a slightly less than 1" off-white foam head. Scent is hoppy, with notes of citrus and other tropical sensations. Some floral scents are also present. Taste follows closely, with a surprisingly robust bready maltiness to ease out some of the more hoppy/fruity flavors present. Feel is bright (dry) and refreshing with a bit of lingering hoppy bitterness. A fun beer to have tried out!
