Notes/Commercial Description:
You'd better believe it. We use seven different malts to create an incredible sensation of aroma and flavor. The special roasted barleys we use give this brew its smokey espresso scent. And the first sip reveals a rich sweet character which ends in a coffee/cocoa finish. Our special, natural carbonation process creates the dense head, tiny bubbles, and creamy character of this dark beauty. Perfect to sit with and contemplate. After a large pie, don't say Decaf Espresso, say Damn Good Stout.

On tap at the Bru Room. Black, with mocha creamy head, measuring 1/4 inch. Srved appropriate waarmer. Roast and chocolate aroma. Coffee is the story, and the coffee acid build as i finish gulp after gulp. Fuller mouthfeel. Very nitro like. Good for what is is, as I am not a coffee drinker or big fan.

On tap at the Bru Room, served in a pint glass:

Appeared a nice, dark, coffee color with a dark, thick, chocolate head that was well retained. The beer had a lighter aroma than expected, a little coffee and a slight hint of chocolate. The taste followed the nose, but was a bit stronger. The beer had a lighter feel, but it was smooth, creamy and easy to drink. Overall, a solid beer.

A- Beer pours a nice rich deep black with a thin mocha colored head. (bar tender did not leave much room at the top of the glass for a decent sized head). some lacing left behind as the beer got drank.

S- nice roasted malt qualities. heavy on coffee/espresso, almost burnt maltiness. some bittersweet chocolate is also aparent.

T- much like the nose. heavy roasty malts. coffee, chocolate once again make up the majority of flavor in this beer.

M/D medium bodied and low carbonation. perfect for the style. easy drinking, had a few of these during my visit to bar.

this beer redeemed my opinion of what bar has to offer after i tried their 73 IPA.

Poured out a dark brown opaque color crowned by a luscious tan head. The nose had very good malt characteristic to it, caramel, maple syrup, coffee, espresso, dark cocoa, and even some assertive yeastyness poked it's head through. The tastes offered were coffee, cocoa, and caramel, with a bit of fruity ester/alcohol barely perceptible on the outer rim of the palate. The mouthfeel was characteristic of a stout, creamy, fairly luscious, low carbonation. The drinkability was hurt a little by the weak finish of the brew. The big assertive flavors didn't hold through to the finish of this one.

This beer was the one saving moment of an otherwise disapointing visit to the Bru Rm. This beer isn't something that I would be going far out of my way to get. But as a stout being poured by a brew pub (posing as a dance club), I was completely happy with this. The beers here, in general, use to be better but I think that the beer is starting to take a back seat to catering to their late night crowd. This is the one to have, if you only have time for one at the Bru Rm.

This stuff is jet black with a decent tan head and good lacing. It has a fairly unique nutty chocolate aroma that includes a very sour overtone. The flavor comes on with a deep sour cherry and coffee, smooth and a bit satiny. It's very drinkable for a stout. There's a charcoal finish. Very nice and highly recommended to any stout fans.

A- black with a brownish purpleish head, some lacing but nothing too sticky

S- rosted, sweet scents.

T- bitter chocolate, toasted grains, milky/creamy. Some nice fruitiness comes through, very dry.

M- At first it seems very creamy but it's mostly the head, it's very smooth but the over all body is meadium light.

D- I really thought the ABV on this one was like 4.5 or 5% not 6%. it has a good drinkability, but obviously not BARs session beer.

I'm not a stout nut (not yet anyway) but this is a big favourite of mine

On-tap at the brewpub.

A: Pitch black body with clear red-brown highlights. Thin tan head of fine, clingy foam. Good retention, moderate lace. Very nice.

S: Candied figs, coffee, butterscotch, and light spice. Some fudgy chocolate as well. Great.

T: Follows the nose - complex array of dark fruits, roasted malts, and sweet candy notes. Lots of coffee, dark chocolate, and raisin. Clean, bitter finish. Damn good indeed.

M: Smooth, lightly carbonated medium body. Soft.

O: I can't believe I haven't gotten around to reviewing this until now, as this has been my go-to beer at BAR for the past 6+ years, as it's the only genuinely good year-round offering, and almost always better than the seasonals as well. Only the Espresso version of itself is distinctly superior, in my opinion; maybe the Chocolate Porter as well. In any case, flavorful dark beers hide all manner of sins, and the ingredients in this one are tasty enough to mask the faults that dependably mar the lighter offerings from this brewpub. When in doubt, get the stout.

Cheers!

Pours a syrupy, near opaque oil in color beneath a creamy, light brown head. RInged lacing down the entire pint glass. Semi-sweet, roasted malt aromas: milk chocolate, molasses, deep caramel. Notes of fresh espresso and hazlenut. Creamy milk chocolate and toffee flavors upfront amidst a syrupy, yet roasted malt character. Notes of vanilla prior to a fresh, floral hop presence. Full bodied; syrupy and chewy all around the palate. An impressive, full-flavored and well-balanced stout.

Had this one last nite at NERAX and was a highlight of the session for me. It caught my eye in it's wooden cask,at the end of the bar.
Nice and dark, opaque, thin to no head, gravity pour. No evident sediment. Aroma filled with roasted malts, coffee, chocolate, with hints of fruit and cookies.
Great flavors from promised aromas, big coffee component, bitter chocolate and cocoa. Notes of vanilla, oak, biscuits, roasted nuts. Dry and complex. Rather thinnish in the mouthfeel, expected as a cask. Very drinkable and complex. This one would be great to enjoy in a more serene environment than the crowded NERAX. I'd love to be able to try over a 3-4 day period of being tapped and served through a beer engine, proper.
