March 2014: 500 ml bottle, from the Norwegian potential importer. ABV is 4.3%. Chestnut coloured beer, moderate to low off-white head. Dryish, dusty and spiced aroma, hints of coconut and orange peel. Fizzy mouthfeel. Medium dry flavour, "artificial" notes of coconut, orange peel, dust and unpleasant spices, minimal hops. Very unbalanced. Sorry, this one did not rock my boat.

A - A brilliant, clear amber colour with a slight white head.
S - Smells of simple malts, and indiscernible spices.
T - At first its quite fruity and caramel-like, then the spices and zest kick in to produce something entirely complex, with a heady dark streak, produced by a careful combination of malts and selected spice extracts.
MF - I would have preferred a more carbonated beer, there is little of it in there, but it still holds up well.
O - A decent effort by the Carlow brewing company, it's something particular (I feel) but I'll drink a couple more over the Christmas. It's well suited for these dark, cold days - something to come home to after a good meal!
