Medium golden in color with very fine, active carbonation. Short head that fades to skin on surface. Very malty aroma and taste, just a hint of hops, and a touch of sourness. Overall mouthfeel is watery.

Pours an orangey-golden color which is topped with an average slightly off-white head.
There is a nice biscuity and malty aroma with a touch of alcohol smell to go with it.
The taste is strong, but not in an unpleasant way, quite bittery with some caramel taste.
A slight metal aftertaste, but still very nice.

AKA Stary Melnik Strong. Ordered a bottle at the Brickskeller... after they were out of the first nine beers I asked for. Anyways.

The flavor reminds me of peppermint and sweet bread. The appearance is a clear gold with a white head and there are no brewing flaws in the aroma or flavors. It was an interesting beer to try but I wouldn't order it again. The odd yeast character and malts are "ok" but not entirely pleasant. It's certainly worth a try for something different and not a bad beer.

Mass-market Bock from a modern Moscow brewery. Appearance is pale and uninteresting, head is miniature and unstable, smell is rather industrial - not malts nor the hops seem natural. Taste is not bad at all, body dry and slender, some natural hops in the finish. When in Moscow, wotrh a try.

This fairly basic, strong Euro lager is just slightly better than average; although in comparison to some of the worst Russian examples it's not bad.

It pours a clear yellow-gold body with a full and foamy bright-white head that drops fairly shortly. It keeps a wide collar through the start of the glass, but eventually drops to an almost entirely flat surface. It does, however, leave some spots and streaks of lace at the outset, which is nice.

The nose displays clean, sweet cereal-grain malt (there's most likely corn syrup added as adjunct) and herbal hops. It's an interesting aroma that's clearly Russian as it's found in most of the strong beers coming out of there (apparently they're fairly common in a land where vodka once ruled, and beer needed to be strong to compete).

It's medium-full bodied, and mildly zesty on the tongue with a surprisingly delicate, fine-bubbled carbonation. Mouthfeel is not a fault.

Once tasted, rich sweet malt abounds (obviously adjunct laden, and over-riding whatever bitterness is present), laced with woody, spicy, and herbal hops. A touch of alcohol (which is a bit odd in a beer that's only 6.5%) helps to round it out and cut the cereal-like maltiness; eventually finishing with sweet malt, alcohol, and a touch of bitterness laying on the tongue in a lingering, semi-sweet finish.

These strong Russian Euro-lagers are interesting and unique, and this is one of the cleaner ones. Worth trying considering the price is low enough.

Yellow-green color. Almost no foam.
At the smell cereals (and corn?). Alcohol perceptible.
Malty taste, with some hop bitterness. Quite warm.
Nothing particular in the aftertaste, just some slight strong hint of bitterness.
Medium body.
Overall, a normal bock.

Comes in a standard brown half-liter bottle with a dark label featuring the trademark windmill of the "old miller" line. Ingredients conform to the purity law. Bottled on date was 8/16/03, I opened it on 10/23/03.

Crystal clear gold with a thin off-white head that stuck around just a bit before fading to collar with no traces of lace. The nose is very mild, with just a trace of malt. The mouth is very prickly, and syrupy sweet. The taste opens with some malt, but it is sickly sweet, with harsh hops and alcohol lurking in the background. The hops emerge in the finish, leaving a decent if metallic bitterness that mingles with some rejuvenated alcoholic sweetness in the aftertaste. This stuff's not horrible - that's about the nicest thing I can say...
