Pours amber, no carbonation rising. 2 finger fluffy/creamy brown head. Not a bad start.

Aroma is sweet, toffee, malty

Taste has a malt backbone, coffee and nuts.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied and flat.

Overall, decent enough. Drinkable. If you are in the neighborhood then it is worth a try.

Mid September 2005. Had at the Yaletown Brewery in Vancouver, BC.

Presentation- via sampler from the tap.

Appearance- Dark amber in color, 1/2 inch head and fair lacing.

Smell- Dark malt with a strong dark chocolate smell.

Taste- Had an odd fruity taste to it, yet I liked it. Has some chocolate and some crushed coffee bean flavor as well. Maybe a touch smoky also.

Mouthfeel- No carbonation, creamy as hell.

Drinkability- Hell, I would get a pint of this just for the mouthfeel. Different and tasty as well.

This is going to feel weird putting in the final numbers, as this beer did well in two aspects, but mediocre in two others. Let's find out. On to the beer:

It's amber brown in color with orange hues. The head on top is huge, and super creamy. Did I mention the lacing and retention were awesome as well? But one whiff brings this beer back down to earth, as the subtle nutty and toffee aromas could stand to be stronger. You can say that again, but this time to the taste. Slightly nutty with a hint of coffee, no real intenise flavors, not even for a brown ale. There's a dash of bad aid...uh, oh, better drink faster. It feels great in the mouth; it's absurdly creamy and smooth. That helps keep this beer rolling along.

Yaletown's Downtown Brown is the boyfriend/girlfriend that cheats on you. It looks and feels great, so you want it for that, but it doesn't show you much affection. Despite what the final score says, I'd give this a pass.

This beer came as part of a $10 package matched up with a pulled port sandwich. This is a creamy brown with lots of solid midbody and a smooth finish. There are some nice hops that show up half way through the sip making very much an American Brown in style. Very food friendly and well balanced this is as good as the Steamworks Brown.

This is a pretty beer. Clear red with a creamy head and equally creamy mouthgeel. Lacing is also excellent and sticky. Aroma is toasted grain and coffee. Bitterness is quite mild, emphasizing the toasted malts. A little more substance in flavour and aroma would be appreciated.
