(Directly from Refrigerated Bottle)

Appearance: Nice Golden Color

Smell: Flowery Hops Prevail

Taste: Bursting with a Bready Body and Flowery Hop Finish with a Slight Citrusy Sourness. MUCH MORE FLAVOR than its Outward Appearance.

Mouthfeel: Light-Medium Bodied with a SOFT, Smooth Finish.

Drinkability: Superb. It Seems to 'Disappear' after Swallowing----Meaning its Flavor Far Exceeds its Visually-Estimated Density and Does Not Feel Very Heavy Going Down the Throat.

Other: One of my Top Choices for the Summer of 2008!

Poured into a pilsner a lighter dull golden with a large fluffy well retained white head a very nice pour.Clean toasty aromas maybe a bit to clean lightly toasty with a passing mineral-like note.Seemed to be more malt tilted at least up front, quite firm and toasty with a touch of honey sweetness an herbal smack of hops comes thru in the finish.A big sturdy pilsner here nice full mouthfeel and quite drinkable, not bad.

Beer review from BA Mag Aug 2007.

A new release from Ithaca, this pils is brewed with a traditional German yeast strain and five classic German hop varieties.

Pours pale golden, with a touch of chill haze and a creamy foam head that sticks as it recedes to a nice lace. Great complex herbal hop character in the nose, with soft bready malts beneath. Smooth, rounded malty body--not as crisp as expected. Sweetness is quite low, with notes of bread and fresh grains. Gives off a hint of honey as it warms, and maybe a thin butteriness. Bitterness isn't overbearing, either, but there's plenty of hop character--slightly citric, denser herbal notes, pith and orange blossom in the finish.

As traditional German Pilsner fans, we would have preferred a crisper carbonation to liven things up a bit and lend a cleaner profile. It's also not as delicate as traditional examples. Regardless, overall, this is a good pick and an enjoyable brew. It's also nice to see another lager on the market, if only for the summer.

Thick fluffy white head sits on a solid, healthy bronze body in a PSU pilsner glass (brother Jer's pour produces three times more foam!)... dry, almost undetectable scents of malts or hops... a full-bodied pilsner to the palate--almost an altbier in body and mouthfeel, alternately creamy and edgy... crisp, champagne-like dryness... the label seems more interested in what hops are used, but the malts are heady.... not your average pilsner , and that is said with some complimentary sentiment: heavier, tighter, more present than its body might suggest--consistent with a hint of fruitiness at the finish...

Appearance is a very light golden straw. Very little had and a tiny bit of lacing lasts throughout.

Aroma - Slight aromas of malt and citrus (grapefruit). Hops present...

Taste - Hoppy grassy bitterness up front - Citrusy bite towards the end....

Mouthfeel - Very smooth, alcohol is hidden well considering this is a relatively high ABV pilsner..

Drinkability - Excellent Pils - Not watery like many popular brands and not over bearing like a few crafts I've tasted. Definitely do this one again....

This is another offering from Ithaca that does not follow the style guidelines but is still a good beer. Pours with a creamy white head that lasts till the end. Leaves behind some random lacing. A lot of bubbles racing to the top to aid in the retention. Has a clear golden color.

Smells of German hops, a bit of grass , traces of malt, and citrus.

The taste is good but not top shelf. Crisp, carbonated mouth feel ( which I don't mind). Has some sweet malts, and a hoppy finish on the palate. From what I hear this is the first year they brewed this. I would like to see this one in a couple of years down the road.

Thanks to Lum for this extra!

a - bright golden color, smallish white head with little retention or lacing, clear

s - grassy and grainy/bready maltiness mixed in with hints of lemony hops

t - sweet maltiness and lemon tinted bitterness up front and on the midpalate, the finish is grassy and grainy malt that lingers with hints of lemon, no alcohol

m - light-to-medium bodied, moderate to low carbonation, fairly dry finish for a pils

d - pretty drinkable, though the finish is a bit dryer than I'm used to from a pils

Decent pils overall, though nothing extraordinary. Worth a try if you have access.

Poured a light copper hue with a one finger foamy white head. There was good retention and lacing.

The smell featured an herbal and musty hop and a light grain.

The taste consisted of an upfront hop spice that slowly melted into the crisp grainy malt.

The mouthfeel was toward the fuller side for the style.

Overall a tasty and hoppy pils. Good drinkability.

Appearance- A medium to pale amber. There is an averagely thick whit foamy head and lace to this beer.

Smell- Some crisp hops notes and grassy like pils should be.

Taste- Just a little bit of bitterness to start with followed by tastes of bread and grains.

Mouthfeel- Light and fizzy.

Drinkability- Refreshing not my favorite pilsner but I enjoy this one.

Thanks to TomDecapolis for this...
Appears a transparend gold with a small white head of velvet that slowly fades away. Small traces of CO2 slowly rise to the top. Scattered lacing is left around the glass.
Smell is of spicy saaz hops, earthy minerals, pepper, mild grain, and some abrassive husk.
Taste is of grainy, spicy hops with light cornbread, cracked peppercorn, and sugar.
Mouthfeel is medium bodied, sugary, corn, spice, and grain husks lingering on the palate.

I was given a bottle of this by Hartnett as an extra in a trade a week or two ago (Cheers, brother).

Poured into a stange-like glass.

A: Pours hazy light golden, 2 finger fluffy white head that leaves amazing lacing

S: Grassy, bready, light hops, sweetness, pretty typical pilsener smell except a lot sweeter than I would normally expect

T: Crisp, grassy, citrus, lingering bitterness, sweetness like caramel at the back. The more it warms, more sweetness comes in and less bitterness stays.

M: Pretty thick for a pilsener, I would think. Strong carbonation. Somewhat creamy.

D: Refreshing and crisp. Very easy going on the palate. On a hot day on the deck (or god forbid a beach) I would love to have a case of this to myself to cool off and relax.

Too bad it's retired.

Damn now this one shocked me.

Poured into a pilsner glass. Pours a hazy yellow color with a foamy white top. Little lacing globbage throughout.

Smellis very hoppy. Tettnanger if I am not mistaken. A yeasty whiff was more present on the backend.

Taste was very hoppy that spicey grapefruit taste I am pretty sure that is Tettnanger hops. Subtle pale maltiness, again kind of yeasty.

Mouth is medium bodied ver good carbonation. A spicey tingle on the tongue that sticks around for the ending.

Drinkability is excellent if you ask me. I can't think of a reason people would not like this. Easy to swig and keep in the belly.

An awesome German Pilsner if you ask me.

Pours hazed golden with a thin head that becomes wispy. Bits of lacing stick.

The smell is fruity, in an odd-ish way, with herbal/grassy notes and a touch of dough. Like the appearance, not quite as "clean" as would like, but a nice enough aroma.

The taste is bready, slightly musty, with a touch of sour leading to a grassy/herbal finish. Aftertaste better than taste.

The feel is light-bodied with a lingering dryness.

It does have a nice bitter, drying finish, but while drinking it is a bit too bready/doughy and the slight sour touch mixed in doesn't really help. Could be cleaner all around, though it finishes nicely.

A- Pours a very light orange with a finger of deliciously creamy feeling head. Some lacing which is weak, but maybe nice for a pils.

S- The smell has the same flavor profile as the taste. It's difficult to seperate the hops from the malt. Scents of earthiness, dark crusty bread, bitter pineapple and golden raisins. I like the scent but it is faint. I can really only detect all those aspects after tasting them in the beer and searching. Perhaps if the head could be improved on this beer I would enjoy the smell more.

T- A beer which has very well blended flavors. Some slightly sweet, but also mildly spicy hints of malt, along with some great fruitiness and earthy bitterness.

M- Creamy, but not overwhelmingly so. The carbination provides some lightness to coax the beer down my throat so I can enjoy another sip.

D- I really enjoyed this beer at the end of a long hard day. It is delicate enough to not have to think about it, but still very complex in the flavors, plus a great mouthfeel and appearance to round it all out. Highly recommended.

Ithaca Pils....

Appearance-pale golden color with a thick lace, ok carbonation. Heavy bubbles, looks ok.

Smell-grain, light grapefruit and grass, some alcohol.

Taste/Mouthfeel-watery, grainy taste, grass/grapefruit pulls through, smooth heavy carbonation. Ok taste, but nothing stands out.

Drinkability-decent smoothness, nothing too bad, not that notable.

Overall-not that notable, pretty average and doesn't stand up to other craft pils. Not recommended, needs a lift.

Pours a hazy light golden color with 2 1/2 fingers of foamy, fluffy white head that retains very well. Lots of lively carbonation.

The scent is of citrus and light grain.

The taste is dominant of grapefruit, light hoppiness and some grain.

Light bodied, very crisp and refreshing, highly carbonated.

Very easy drinker, this is a good refreshing pilsener with lots of flavor.

Had this on tap at Ithaca's famed Moosewood Restaurant, a vegetarian place that can interest avowed carnivores and also has a great beer list.

Served in a typical pint glass, typical golden yellow pils, clear, with a good head that had a decent amount of staying power for the style. Decent lacing throughout.

Smells very typically of the style, with perhaps a touch more hops than expected.

Same goes with the taste...nice clear bite with a hint of extra hops at the end that's interesting without being obnoxious.

Mouthfeel is very typical of the style, with that slight prickly carbination.

All in all, very drinkable and a good representation of the style. Went well with a spicy vegetarian Tex-Mex concoction.

Crystal clear straw color with an extensive stream of upwardly mobile bubbles. Impressive three-finger, snow powdery white head that recedes in a rocky fashion.

Fresh, malty aroma. Neutral hop. (weakest part of the tasting).

Far more bitter than the aroma would suggest--more than a typical pils. Very dry with a solid body for the style. Leaves a long-lasting bitter, bitter hop aftertaste (that goes on forever).

Overall, this is an interesting, albeit slightly off, pilsener. I'd seek it out to try it in a flight of other pils.

In a tall glass, Ithaca's Pils Golden Lager Beer is bright golden and sparkling-clear with a steady stream of carbonation feeding a huge topping of foam. The head atop the drink is bright white and is comprised of tight, pearly bubbles that consolidate slowly into larger, soapier gas-structures that cling in fluffy rings onto the sides of the pilsener.

The smell is smooth and sweetly grainy with an herbal, spicy-green hop note. Nutty pilsner malt and a twist of unripe citrus promise crisp refreshment.

The taste is toasted and nutty malts, lightly sweet and mild, cut with a fine herbal bite that provides both bittering to the drink and a touch of dryness to the finish. A twist of bitter citrus oil, sweet cut grass, and dry huskiness lurks in the aftertaste.

The brew is light-medium in body with excellent carbonation and fluffy, creamy feel. Highly refreshing; greatly quaffable; damned delicious. Thanks for the bottle, Lum!

Poured a 12 oz. bottle into a pilsner glass.

Very nice golden hue with a big white head. Lots of carbonation pouring up from the bottom. The thick head leaves a nice lacing as it slowly dissipates.

Nice malty nose with a touch of flowery hops. Very inviting.

Taste begins with some bready malt and finishes quickly with a nice bitter hop bite. Good crisp clean lager finish.

Light bodied, well carbonated, and easy to drink. A good one for a hot day here in North Central West Virginia.

My favorite out of the variety pack, I would buy it again by itself.

another from their sampler, pours an almost hazy pale golden-yellow with a creamy white short lived head that leaves a thick coat of lace in my stange ; a grassy hop aroma w/ a slightly sour steely grain smell underneath, an "iced tea" and pine maybe as it warms ; a good initial hop bite and a toasty malt flavor the same tea-like hop flavor, really clean, crisp malt flavor profile, just some strange spice flavor i can't place or enjoy ; a dry, light, yet creamy body, a decent co2 level ; a def. quaffer, esp. when hoopin'...

Poured into pint glass from bottle.

A- Straw yellow that was more dark than I expected. Poured a nice fluffy, white head that remained thru the sample.

S- Very light bisquit and citrus notes, but not really all that engaging.

T- Thin bisquit taste with a nice malt finish.

M- Very light. Very good in hot weather.

D- Not bad for the style. Would get a sixer of this to have after working around the house on a hot day.
