Wow!!! What an outstanding beer! Sampled multiple times at the Night of the Funk in Boston Sept. 26, '08. Fresh White wine grapes added to the Rye whiskey barrel, with house character; genius. I probably would not have reviewed this beer had I not read the other review here. Injustice, this beer is phenomenal!
Smooth mouth-feel with a ultra-fine carbonation, lots of aromatic character with notes of sour cherries, tart green apples, damp oak, Muscat grape, a touch of smokiness from the Rye barrels and a tinge of herbal hop notes.

The palate of this beer is one of a kind, migrating from the classic Flanders Brune cherry, tart, horse blanket funk with undertones of caramel to the ripe green apple and white grape notes to the ultra tart mouth-puckering house yeast notes to the super smooth smoky rye oak notes.

I think the barrel aging, and especially the type of barrel used to age this beer makes it so special, and adds to the fantastic diversity of flavors found within. I am eagerly awaiting the bottle release of this beer later this year and will be sure to revisit this review then. Hail to Chief!

Pros: Very nice dark ruby color. Aroma shows a lot of depth, chocolate, wood (bourbon, wine.)

Cons: Very mild flavor, not a lot of complexity or depth. Not a lot of fruit character. Really thin body.

A high quality beer, but it wouldn't be one I'd collect.

Tap sampled on 09/26/08 at Night of the Funk. Pours a dirty brown with a bubbly head. Aroma of whiskey, predominantly, and slight roast and chocolate. Flavor is tart initially (a surprised based on the aroma) with a whiskey finish. The whiskey notes are still too dominant in this beer for a lot of the sour and grapey notes to come out. An ok beer, but I really don't know why this was aged in whiskey-- it just ruins the beer.
