EDIT: Had it again 10/16/12 -original review, below, was on 9/28/11. I think the lesson for this one is drink it ultra fresh. This bottle is a week old. Super, super good. More fruits like mango, pineapple, tropical. Peach. Excellent. All hop.

Pour was a nice but expected IPA amber with a 2 finger head. That's all I need to want to drink it.

Great nose. Tropical fruit in a generic sense but hints of mango and pineapple tickle. However, typical IPA grapefruit dominates. Peaches come through strongly as well.

The taste is a nose match for the most part. Grapefruit and peaches taste great up front, supported nicely by a minor tropical detail. Sadly, this one reminds me a tad of Sculpin. You get some kind of nice fruit, but the monstrous piney dry hopping comes along and strips away the fruit and leaves your palate a little wasted. You can have that bitter hoppy perfection work in harmony with fruit; Stone is a great example of this. But it doesn't happen here, and it's a bit of a conflict rather than compliment. That being said, I still like it . . . I may be a beer nerd, but I wouldn't think of drain pouring this guy.

Slight stick to the mouth, but it's stripped down and freeze dried by the hops on the finish, leaving you thirsty.

Damn, I wish the finish didn't come along and diminish the experience a bit.

Appearance: Golden Orange. Clean and semi transparent. Pours a nice head that has some variation in bubbles. Streaming carbonation from the bottle of the tulip glass. Has some nice legs on the glass.

Smell: Nice and hoppy. A pleasant lack of bitter with some nice clean citrus notes. Lots of grapefruit.

Taste: A clean hop profile. A bit more bitter than the nose but a good hop backbone. It has some very pronounced lemon and grapefruit notes. A clean and lasting finish. Maybe a little too much grapefruit for me but it really opens up and smooths out as it warms. Pretty clean for 7.5%.

Mouthfeel: A decent dose of carbonation, really fine and homogeneous. Thin and spreads well.

Overall: A solid IPA that really smooths out as it warms up. A really spot on amount of hops. In my opinion, it's got a too much of a forward grapefruit taste that makes it a bit too bitter for me. I still really enjoyed it but it's just not my favorite IPA.

12 oz bottle poured into a Bells Tulip glass.

Bottled 7/26/2011

A- Pours a nice yellow brown straw color, one finger off white head dissipates slowly, really nice lacing, typical looking IPA.
S- Nice aroma, really bready and nutty, big malt presence, pine, citrus, peach.
T- Big malt backbone, grapefruit comes out in the taste a lot more than the aroma, pine, citrus, nice bitterness comes out in the finish.
M- Medium mouth feel, well carbonated, crisp finish.
O- Decent IPA, a little to malt forward for my taste, but a nice change after drinking mainly RIS for the past week. Enjoyable but would not seek out again.
