Had out of a 12oz bottle poured into a pint glass

a: nice head, good lacing, orangey amber color

s: this was my favorite aspect of the beer, great smell, very fruit, orange, grapefruit, not as much of the piney hops of other ipas

t: similar to the smell, very nice citrus as well as the hoppy bite

m: my least favorite aspect of the beer, but it was not highly carbonated

d: very high, but I love IPAs, so I may be a bit biased

A: Lightly hazy ruddy orange with an ephemeral dusting of a head.

S: Big citrus- oranges and pineapple, tropical floral scents. Really this reminds me of a mixed drink cocktail, exotic beach style.

T: More citrus rind, some bubblicious, light bread malt but this is obviously a hop forward beer. Big on the dry-hop and citrus and not overly bitter but it leaves that taste in your mouth.

This is a beer I love fresh. With some age, it really drops off. Luckily, this is pretty fresh still and full of flavor. It's easy to forget that you are drinking beer when it smells so darned juicy and tropical.

Tasting notes from 8/2/10
Poured in to Duvel tulip
B/B date of November

A - Light amber colour with a slight yellow glow throughout and one finger of bubbly white head and some decent lacing.

S - A robust nose of juicy citrus & tropical fruit - specifically orange, pineapple, mango, passion fruit and grafefruit with a slight pine nose to the bitter hops as well. A sweet malt backbone is present but is subdued.

T - Follows the nose. Full of citrus a flavous. There is tangerine, grapefruit and some pineapple. A light malt backbone provides a little bit of a balance but the juicy hops definitely dominate this beer.

M - Light to medium body, lightly carbonated.

D - An excellent IPA that I will definitely buy over and over again.

-the color is pretty spot on. a good, golden color yet not too dark for the style. although the head is a little to be desired for its poor lacing and retention

-has flower in the name for a reason with a strong floral aroma. a little sweet and some fruit in there

-summer fruits...peach and apricot up front. a pretty big malt background for an IPA, yet very balanced. some good bitterness comes in the finish

-very smooth. not too carby and has some solid body.

-really like this beer. more like an english ipa, and not huge on hops, but very drinkable for me. went well with the curry udon dish i made as well

A: Slightly hazy copper color. A few particles are floating around in my pint glass. A finger of white head with sticky lacing. Great looking IPA.

S: This is where this beer kills. The nose is dominated by intense grapefruit. Just a slight hint of mango. Earthy hop cones. Just a little bit of delicious piney resin.

T: Big citrus right up front. Grapefruit. Citrus. Just fresh hops right in your face. Regular Flower Power is great this just bumps up the intensity of the hops a bit. You do get a little bit more of that planty taste though too.

M: Medium bodied. Great carbonation for a growler. A little bit sticky.

D: I am torn as to which version I like better. The nose kills on this beer. The body is a little thicker on the regular version as well. Total coin toss. Excellent beer.

So after I put up this review I was told by a very reliable source that all Flower Power has been unfiltered for a year now. Thanks for the clarification.

8/2/10. 12 oz bottle with a "best before" date of Nov. Pours a dark amber/orange color. Good head with tons of lacing. The smell is exceptional. Lots of hops, grapefruit, floral and citrus aroma. The taste is excellent. Nice and bitter with more grapefruit and floral flavors. Finally got around to reviewing probably my favorite IPA. If you haven't had it yet, seek it out. Certainly an underrated IPA, but I don't think that it will be over-looked for too much longer. Fantastic brew.

Ithaca Flower Power IPA....on tap at Mugs Ale House.

Appearance -pale gold to orange color, medium sized head in the pint glass, carbonation and color are fine.

Smell -very hoppy, floral and pine notes, orange and grapefruit, seems to be a west coast style IPA in terms of nose.

Taste/Mouthfeel - hoppy on the outs, medium to heavy mouthfeel, layered mix of fruit and hops but nicely balanced by the malt and the alcohol stays well hidden, smooth, not overpowering.

Drinkability-no issues, refreshing, nice balance.

Overall-very well done, nice balance, good mix of flavors and it hides its alcohol very well, while I am still a hophead, I'm becoming more of a fan these balanced IPAs where the hops are just one layer and not overpowering, great job.

Pours a hazy gold, with ample head that dissipates into a fine layer with lots of lacing adhering to my cheap plastic glass.

Pleasant aromas of sweet malt and floral hops.

Tastes of sweet malt and tongue-numbing concentrated floral hops.

Body is medium with sufficient carbonation to give this a creamy mouthfeel.

This is a nice drinking beer, has nice floral hop concentration, is creamy, and at 7.5%, you can have a few.

Awesome beer, had on-tap at Cambridge Common, an incredibly awesome beer spot/restaurant

Appearance: Deep yellow/straw color with a white bubbly head

Aroma: Pineapple, lemongrass... lots of tropical and fruity hops

Taste/Mouthfeel: Smooth, creamy mouthfeel; beer is nicely carbonated with a dry finish. Tastes like the nose, heavy on the fruity hops but very balanced. Excellent.

Notes: Extremely drinkable. One of the best IPA's I've come across. So happy I can actually buy it around here!

Poured from 12oz bottle into Krusovice chalice.

Appearance: Hazy golden-orange color with a very large, slowly dissipating off-white head that leaves thick, bubbly lace behind. One of the most beautiful beers I have seen.

Smell: As the name of the beer would suggest, there is a wealth of floral hop aromas about this. Also has notes of earthiness, pine, grassiness, buttered toast, and a hint of nuttiness. As the beer is warmed and the glass starts to go down, I can also detect some grainy malt.

Taste: Starts off buttery-sweet and a bit bitter, finishing with a stronger bitterness. The finish also reveals flowery flavors alongside notes of earthiness and nuts. There is also a bit of an alcohol note to this, especially as the beer warms.

Mouthfeel: Thicker body with balanced, natural feeling carbonation and a dry, hoppy finish. Warming alcohol in the stomach.

Drinkability: I've heard a lot about this beer and had to try it for myself- I'm glad I did, this is the best IPA I have tried as of yet. It's very hoppy, but it isn't a bitter assault on the tastebuds. This is a very tasty brew I will definitely look to try again in the future.

A re-review of this one from the bottle as it seemed a bit different from the growler I had previously.

A: The pour is a nice looking amberish color with a fair amount of orange to it. A nice big white head forms as a cap.

S: The nose is more intense than the previous taste of it. A lot of floral and citrus hop notes, leaning toward orange and grapefruit with just a hint of pine.

T: The flavor is much more bitter than I recall it being. Lots of resinous flavors with a moderate amount of citrus. The hops also have a bit of tropical fruit that I didn't notice before. A bit of alcohol comes through as well, which is the only thing that knocks the score down here.

M: A really solid body to this one with plenty of carbonation and a really crisp feel overall on the tongue.

D: Again, the only knock on this beer was the alcohol flavor that I noted. Otherwise, a solid IPA and one of the few from the East Coast that I've had that I earns that description.

Tasted from 12oz bottle. Pours amber-orange with a decent white head that recedes to lace. Nose of hops, some caramel malt, and I am detecting some apricot and sage. This beer is super balanced, masking the alcohol perfectly. The hops and malt come together perfectly with good fruity notes of apricot and bitterness. The body is medium with average carbonation and a decent and enjoyably bitter finish. I am very impressed by this beer.

Got a growler of this at Ithaca Beer today. Poured into a pint glass.

A - pours a honey-like amber with a white head. The glass has solid lacing after each sip, more of a lace coating than the usual catacombs.

S - intense fruity smell - pineapple, orange, and grapefruit.

T - A very hoppy beer with a unique hop character. Follows the nose with pineapple, grapefruit, and pine, with a significant bitterness and a nice malt backbone. Slightly dry, bitter finish.

M - good feel with a nice body, not too heavy or too light, with some hop oiliness. Carbonation is as expected.

D - dangerously drinkable for a 7+ ABV beer. No booziness at all.

Overall, probably Ithaca Beer's best offering and one of the best IPAs in the east coast, heck, in the country.

I should mention that there is a big difference between the on-tap and bottled version of this. The bottled version would probably be in the 4.2-4.3 range.

This is by far my favorite IPA to date. Incredibly floral and extremely smooth. It compares somewhat to Hop Wallop from Victory but is better. This beer also hides its potency very well and is very easy to drink. As the beer warms up its citrus tones begin to shine thru making it even more complex and delicious. Well done Ithaca!

Presentation: It was my second on a flight of beers I tried at the the gourmet pub/restaurant where I work as a cook. For the record, a flight is a series of four half-pints, so take my drinkability rating with a grain of salt.

A: Paler than I expected with a rather thin head, but this could have been a problem caused by the small half-pint glasses.

S: Not the most fragrant, but it certainly is original. Hops, alcohol, and a slight floral aroma are present.

T: Not as bitter as I expected from an IPA. Without knowing it was an IPA I would have certainly guessed it was a pale ale. The most interesting thing to note here is the presence of a slight fruity taste toward the finish. With the floral smell it creates a nice combination.

M and D: The feel was average--a bit thin. The drinkability is higher than the average IPA for me, mostly because I could just keep coming back for melding of floral and fruity in a bitter beer. Well balanced, but still not my favorite.

I had off the tap at some bar in Greenpoint, Brooklyn.
A- Beautiful copper color with a foamy head and lace. Relatively clear.
S- Wonderful hop scent.
T- For an IPA, it has a very nice balance to it. It's hoppy, but not over the top. Good floral malty balance to it. It's very smooth.

Pours a yellow-amber-orange combination with a one finger off-white head. Good lacing and solid retention. The aroma is awesome. Strong grapefruit and floral scents. You don't even need to get your nose in the glass to notice. Aroma stands out from all the IPA's I've tried. Good floral and grassy hops. A bit of citrus and tropical malts as well. Decent malt backbone and a nice bite to finish. Again, awesome aroma and the taste follows and does not disappoint.

Beer is an attractive gauzy orange/amber. A white head that dissipates quickly. Smell is big and hoppy: flowery, resinous, with some grapefruit. The taste is very good. A nice initial hoppy burst with a sharp and crisp bitter finish. The hops are a nice mix of pine and citrus. The mouthfeel is good; the beer is fairly heavily carbonated and it is quite drinkable. Overall a very, very good big IPA. Not quite top of the heap, but there's a lot of competition in the IPA category. But almost top tier. Definitely one to have again. It would probably be even better on tap.

Best before September 2010

Pours a light, honey, golden color- slightly hazy. 1 finger of white soapy bubbles.

Lots of citrus in the nose- mostly orange and grapefruit. I also smell plenty of pine and earthy hops.

The taste pretty much follows the nose. Lots of citrus and pine. It is also a little soapy and grassy. In the finish, I get some sweetness from the malt in the form of caramel/brown sugar. This beer doesnt seem to be too aggressivly hopped. I would'nt mind if it was though. Still pretty nice. I would like if it was a little more bitter.

The mouthfeel seems about medium with medium carbonation.

This is a balanced IPA but, I prefer a more hop forward flavor profile. However, I don't taste any alcohol and that makes this pretty drinkable.

A: clouded apricot and lightly burnt orange fuse together nicely. A nice layer of whipped fuzz, near bone white in color, sits atop. Lacing has some notable features with plenty of spots, streaks, and globs

S: this is great. Bitter and bright in the nose. A pinch of tropical fruits with a lot of citrus and sweet malts

T: great balance of flavors: incredible hops and great malt backbone. Hops are rolled in brown sugar and range in flavor from tropical fruits, pine needles, and spicy citrus notes. Flower Power from Ithaca Beer is tight

M: plenty of hops oils lingering in the finish. Medium body and well to do carbonation are a great match for the flavors

D: first beer by Ithaca Beer Company and I am quite impressed. Hopefully I see some more of these come my way

From notes - 6/5/10.

Poured into a tulip.

A: Pours a full three fingers of head giving way to chunky lacing. Hazy orange and copper in appearance.

S: Nice clean citrus burst of hops. A little spicy. Also a bit of tangerine and mango present.

T: Great, solid IPA. Nice bitter hops brought to balance with a sweet spiciness. Citrus and some pine flavors. The bitterness in this beer should be a benchmark for most other IPAs.

M: Clean, crisp, and refreshing. Hops are resinous. Carbonation is perfect. Body is moderate. Every sip and swallow leaves me wanting more.

D: A top notch IPA. Wish we could get this one down south. Easy drinking and refreshing.

Poured from a 12oz bottle into a tulip glass:

Appearance; This has a beautiful 2 finger white frothy cap on it that leaves remarkable lacing down the glass. Orange honey colored with a touch of hop haze to it.

Smell: This smells off the charts. Its like a west coast approach to an IPA. Big floral, honey/ tangerine, mango, grapefruit and pinecone sweetness on the nose. Reminds me of hopslam.

Taste: The tase is unreal. Perfect for me, and has that big hop bite but a deep malty backbone. This is a step above all other IPA's i have had. Grapefruit astrigenty, brown sugar sweetness, mango and pineapple citrus components.

Mouthfeel: Perfect carbonation, dry aftertaste, balanced sweetness and bitterness.

Drinkability: Perfect as well. The ABV is hidden, and its smooth as silk going down. This is the best IPA i have ever had thus far.

A - Pouring into a standard pint produced a 1/2" of white head that has a decent retention and leaves some spider web lacing. The beer is golden orange in color with a bit more orange in the appearance. It's mostly clear and has carbonation bubbles present.

S - A nice stinky hop aroma hits you in the face. Theres a combination of flowery and citrusy hops, with the former being the more prevalent. There's also a little bit of sweet malt lurking in the background.

M - Light-medium in body with moderate carbonation.

T - The sweet malt hits first and fades out towards the finish. The hops hit around mid-taste, starting off with a citrus zest, and then quickly overcome by a field of flowery hops. When it's all done with you've got a lingering bitterness from the flowery hops to remind you of how delicious this beer is. What's shocking is reading that this beer contains 8% alcohol, I say "what alcohol?"

I was fortunate enough to try a super fresh batch (2 weeks in the bottle) and I love this stuff. Flower Power is a great name because it describes a lot of the flavor and aroma perfectly. This is a great IPA, and I would surly recommend it to all IPA lovers.

A - Nice Amber/orange color with a big fluffy off white head, light lacing sticks to the side of the glass.

S - Mix of floral and citrusy hop aroma. Smells sweet like a honeysuckle. Yummy

T - A lot more balanced then the nose would lead you to believe. A bit of a citrus/florally hop flavor up front and then finishes with a big swallow of pale malts. Kind of disappointing to be honest.

M - medium body with a bit too much carbonation

D - Easy drinking, well balanced IPA. I enjoy this and will enjoy the rest of the six pack I picked up but honestly I'm not blown away by this. I would drink this again but won't go nuts seeking it out.
