Serving Type - Bottle

Appearance - Golden tan/copper , hazy and cloudy, unfiltered with a 1/2 inch creamy head, good lacing.

Smell - Sweet citric fruits, orange, grapefruit, lemon, Belgium yeasts and spices, and slight malts in the backbone.

Taste - Starts out with light yeasty sugar notes, mixed with some light floral fruits. Plenty of lemon, orange and grapes. Light, mildly sweet and bitter, with a fain amount of spices. Malts add a caramel backbone that works well with the bitter/sour notes.

Mouthfeel - Floral hops and sweet yeasts coat the tongue. Palate gets more of the same, with some malts and spices at the finish. Aftertaste is light, floral and a little sour.

Overall - A solid beer. Rather safe and standard really. Flavors and mild and are tasty, just a little to toned down to make this special. Still, worth a drink for fans of the style but noting world class.

Fleur De Belgique has a hazy, yellow/orange body with a large, dense and creamy, just off-white head. Head has good retention and leaves moderate lacing. Very juicy aroma with tangerine, pineapple, lemon, and grapefruit. Also has a lot of light breadiness with orange and grapefruit rind, a bit of pine, clove, banana, and light malts.

Taste starts with sweet bread and grapefruit rind, then a splash of lemon and pineapple juice. Yeasty in the middle, with a piney, bready finish with clove and spicy yeast. Feel is a touch light with high carbonation, compliments the beer well. Feel is also a bit chewy and very creamy.

Pours a honey golden hue, bright white head very similar appearance to the Hopbloem...white head, fine speckled lacing. Aroma spicy Belgian yeast, tropical fruit, black pepper, citrus fruits on the nose. Flavor has hints of tropical fruit with Belgian yeast spice and citrus fruit the two aspects contrast quite a bit too much. Mouthfeel of mildly harsh bitterness from the hops combined with the peppery spicy yeast notes that leave a lacquer on the palate. Overall, a nice Belgian IPA, but sadly the style just might not be my favorite.

12oz bottle poured into a snifter. 02/04/14 on the neck of the bottle.

A: Pours a slightly hazy light golden with an ample white head sitting on top. Some yeast caught in stasis is visible in the body. Nice lacing as the head slowly dissipates.

S: Nice fruity citrus hop is the first thing I notice. Hops are certainly the centerpiece giving it a nice bright aroma. Just a touch of sweet malts in the background.

T: Up front bitterness and a solid dose of hops makes you think this is an IPA with an after thought of Belgian twist. The trappist yeast does add a bit of depth to it giving a complimenting fruit flavor to the mix.

M: Medium to full body with a creamy mouthfeel from the yeast. Alcohol is a bit hot for my liking and it sort of detracts from the flavor.

Overall another great IPA from Ithaca. A real nice hop profile but as I said above, the Belgian aspect seems almost like an afterthought. Worth a try.
