12oz bottle poured into a snifter. 02/04/14 on the neck of the bottle.

A: Pours a slightly hazy light golden with an ample white head sitting on top. Some yeast caught in stasis is visible in the body. Nice lacing as the head slowly dissipates.

S: Nice fruity citrus hop is the first thing I notice. Hops are certainly the centerpiece giving it a nice bright aroma. Just a touch of sweet malts in the background.

T: Up front bitterness and a solid dose of hops makes you think this is an IPA with an after thought of Belgian twist. The trappist yeast does add a bit of depth to it giving a complimenting fruit flavor to the mix.

M: Medium to full body with a creamy mouthfeel from the yeast. Alcohol is a bit hot for my liking and it sort of detracts from the flavor.

Overall another great IPA from Ithaca. A real nice hop profile but as I said above, the Belgian aspect seems almost like an afterthought. Worth a try.

Pours hazy banana yellow. Softy pastel and with a soft light int he body of the beer. Fat white head of tight creamy foam that lasted and left rings of lace. Nose is bright with citrus. Lemon, lime and something sweet and juicy underneath. yeast is earthy and not too strong with any funk. A soft clove emerges as this warms as does a bit of light dry biscuit. There is an earthy pine on the nose but it is subtle.

Taste is delicate and a bit earthy but deeply sweet. It has a a nice juicy fruit quality that is comprised of citrus. Soft clove and an airy dry biscuit malt. It has a bit of crushed aspirin like bitterness to the middle and a hop bitter that lingers. Mouthfeel is juicy and just a hair more than light because of the malt sweetness. Pine remains soft and earthy and the clove is even softer and more subtle.

This is a graceful and very juicy IPA that does indeed deliver west coast drinkability with a Belgian style dryness. Congratulations Ithaca. If all the beers in this box are as good as this one, it could challenge ommegang.

Bottle purchased at Nathaniel Square Corner Store in Rochester, NY.

Pours golden yellow, pretty hazy, with a 2 inch fluffy head, and a small amount of lacing down the glass.

Aromas include citrus hops, spices, and Belgian yeast.

Very similar taste. A bit more American-style than most Belgian IPAs I've had- due to hop citrus hop forward it is. There is the typical candi Belgian sweetness, along with spicy yeast flavors.

Medium bodied, pretty crisp, very drinkable.

A winner from Ithaca's new box, much better than Obscurite or Laissez Faire.

Poured into a Dogfish/Sierra Nevada IPA glass from a bottle with (date?) code 140204. Hazy golden with a nice head and a rich lacing down the glass. Aroma is moderate citrus and pine, but I'm not getting much Belgian character.

Taste is similar--dominated by citrus/pine notes. A very traditional IPA profile. Malt sweetness barely cuts through and fades quickly to be dominated by the hop bitterness in the finish. Barely noticeable Belgian earthy-pear-clove notes hiding behind the hops.

Overall not my favorite take on the belgian IPA. I had this next to the Hopbloem and I strongly prefer the fruity hops used in that one with Belgian yeast. This isn't as bad as some bigger Belgian IPAs since it's got a mild Belgian yeast character, but what is there still clashes with the hops for me.

Light straw colored with a thick head that leaves heavy lacing on the glass. The smell is largely of grass with some lemon as well. Feel is light, with light carbonation. Taste is grapefruit and pine with a light bitterness. Overall this holds together very well.
