A: A dark mocha colored head emerged when poured into a snifter glass. The foam was very fine and just shy of a finger tall before receding slowly into the pitch black beer. A dusting was left on top as well as a ring of leather like lacing on the edge of the glass. Nice legs on this beauty. And no light shines through at all.

S: The nose on this beer is amazing even when its being poured. Deep rich chocolate, fudge, vanilla, bourbon, caramel and oak all very complimentary of one another. The chocolate aroma reminds me of freshly baked brownies with some bourbon poured over the top, phenomenal.

T: Ohh man, Dark chocolate, rich cocoa, vanilla, marshmallow. Its like a boozy chocolate milkshake on steroids. The barrel is very developed and deep, you get the natural sugars deep in the wood that don't come through with short contact time. The bourbon flavor stands out on its own as being smooth. Very balanced. The bitterness is moderate and the balance is on the malt side coming through sweeter, but I believe a lot of the perception of sweetness I'm getting is from the oak barrel.

M: Big alcohol warming hits your chest and keeps you from drinking this thing too fast. Carbonation is low but dialed in perfectly. Moderate body and very drinkable. There is a creamy-ness too this beer that I just love.

O: During the 16 party I thought the beer was a solid 4.5 after a few exodus's, Peruvian mornings, hop rises, space ghost, etc, etc.. but now with a clearer head and some closer examination.. FIVE! Central Waters does the clean barrel aging like no one else and this is the pinnacle as far as I'm concerned.

Appearance was that of all good stouts I've had, black with a small tan head that leaves behind a little lacing.

Smell was initially roasted notes with hints of chocolate, upon warming towards room temperature chocolate notes come through greater.

Taste is like nose except when warming there's another layer in a marshmallow like note that I really enjoyed.

Mouthfeel was thick and full bodied.

This goes in the top 3 BA stouts I've had with BA Abraxas and BA Sump Kyoto.

22-oz bottle served to snifter.

A: very dark appearance, but less opaque than expected at the edges. I am unable to draw much head, to be expected, but the viscosity is on the thinner side and there was very little cling. luckily the appearance doesn't foreshadow the mouthfeel.

S: oak, cocoa powder, fudge, vanilla, toasted coconut, treacle. lovely interplay between the roasted malts of the stout and the inside of the barrel

T: very similar to the aroma: wood char, fudge, caramel, toasted coconut, tobacco. very slight soy sauce.

M: moderately carbonated, lingering mouthfeel.

the 21 months in the barrel shine through. this is very close in overall quality to bcbs, but a little too hot, more comparable to fresh 2012 bcbs than to fresh 2013. still, a damn fine beer.

this will mellow very nicely, I anticipate.
