Out of the light and into the darkness comes an Imperial Stout with Ghost Peppers added. Space is full of mystery. Darkness. And the heat of 1,000 suns. Don't fear the heat. It's the ghost that will get you!

Bomber poured into snifter.

Appearance: Jet black with a chocolate head that dissipates rapidly.

Smell: coffee, chocolate. No sign of peppers.

Taste: ... and THERE IT IS. Starts like a smooth drinking imperial stout and then... BAM. The peppers balance against the stout taste nicely.

Mouthfeel: crisp, clean.

Overall: I have two more bottles of this aging. Looking forward to seeing how this goes.

This is my first from Central Waters. Purchased for $16 from a private collection. Very excited because i love beers with peppers added. This is not currently in production any more, so it may have sat on the shelf for a while. Poured out nicely dark brown and opaque, with a very brief lasting head of khaki color that soon recedes into a narrow ring around the glass and a couple floating islands of bubbles. Scent is of dark fruit, I'm getting raisin, date, fig, and a little cherry. Also very coppery smelling, a bit like fresh metal in the rain. I don't detect any peppers, or if they're there it's very faint. Taste is very unusual. It's more bitter than I would expect from it, there isn't a whole lot of sweetness. The pepper is right up there in the front, and fills the mouth completely with a nice tingly burn well after the beer is swallowed. Flavors follow the nose, with raisins being the most prominent, followed by figs, and dried cherries, but without the sweetness profile. Chocolatey but really it's basic cocoa without the sugary taste. Maybe some coffee, but it's dark and roasted the whole way through. Mouthfeel is slippery and sticky on the lips, medium bodied, and highly effervescent. Overall it's a unique experience. Personally, I would like this beer to be maltier / sweeter, but it's not bad as it stands. Extra bonus points for having a big spicy feel to it, which i'm a huge fan of.

22oz bottle, without any bottling date information.
Black colored body, with a single speck of garnet colored back lit highlight. One finger of mocha brown head. Leaves behind scattered spots of lacing.
Aroma of dark roasted malts and chocolate, joined by a vegetal pepper spice smell.
Taste is dark roasted malts, with chocolate. The hot pepper sensation joins in almost from the start of the taste profile, and lingers far into the after taste. The heat is noticeable but not overbearing or overwhelming.
Medium plus mouth feel. Smooth and creamy. Good carbonation.
One must be able to tolerate a higher level of pepper heat in order to enjoy this beer. Not burning hot, but an integral component of the taste profile.

22oz bottle poured into a tulip shows a reddish-brown dark brown body and fails to produce either a cap of foam or lacing.

Aroma includes dark stone fruits, pepper, and chocolate.

The flavors are only slightly different with chile peppers up front with spice and at the back in warmth. In between is a taste of chocolate and an almost vinous, grape-like quality.

Mouthfeel is full and smooth leaving a pepper heat behind.

Overall a really good stout with pepper heat.

A solid imperial stout that could scale back on the chili pepper just a bit. Black color with tan head. On the nose I get dark fruit. That dark fruit does come through in the taste, with of course some roastiness and chocolate. But the pepper somewhat overwhelms the base flavors. With a more subdued chili burn, this could excellent.
