A- Dark brown body. Looks like the quintessential stout. One finger brown head that dies down fairly quickly, medium mocha lacing.
S- Roasted malt, a bit of roasted coffee beans, chocolate and a hint of banana and spicy Belgian yeast. But honestly the nose is more restrained than I expected. It smells like a standard American stout, which is not a bad thing here from my standpoint.
F- The Belgian yeast is very strong on the palate, however. Banana, cloves, spices, earthy minerals mix in cleanly with notes of milk chocolate and coffee. This is actually quite well-done and integrated well together. No note is overpowering but overall very flavourful beer, even if its not a typical combination.
M- Medium-thin bodied, good carbonation. Smooth and silky. More than drinkable.
O- Tasty experimental brew. It comes together well; I don't have a lot of other Belgian-style single stouts to compare it to. It's certainly not as complex or tasty as Black Albert for example; it's a more simplistic rendition of a Belgian-style stout that doesn't try to be something more Belgian than what it's supposed to be; it has more of the American in it and that's okay.
