12oz bottle at cellar temperature (54* according to the thermometer), bottled December of 2011, poured into oversized snifter.
As it pours the typical barrel aged stout "glug" is noticeably absent. Has the appearance of cola being poured. A fizzy head quickly dissipates, leaving a solid ring of tiny bubbles around the perimeter of the glass. Its dark, but not black, a deep brown with hints of red along the edges. Light is able to penetrate even through the deepest point of the glass.
Lots of vanilla! Dulce de Leche with a hint of booze. I'm getting mostly sweetness with the slight oak-y-ness of the bourbon in the very back.
Again, Dulce de Leche! Creamy, milky, vanilla, very sweet. I'm not finding much of the stout qualities. The bourbon is there, but is dominated by the caramely vanilla flavors. There is a slight alcohol burn on the end, but is pleasant, not harsh.
For being relatively thin, it is amazingly creamy and full on the tongue. It lacks that syrup quality I prefer in a BA stout.
I hope with some time in the cellar that the sweetness will mellow out, and everything it is masking, takes a seat at the table. I've loved this in years past, but was pretty underwhelmed by this years batch fresh!

Poured from bottle into Hoppin Frog snifter. Bottle date is 2013. Date of review is 3/8/14.
Appearance- Almost pitch black. Just a tiny bit of light shines through when held up to a bright light. Quarter finger of creamy tan head that disappears within a minute. Tiny little bubbles are floating up from the bottom, which is cool looking.
Smell- Bourbon and green apples right away. After that I get vanilla and smoke. This is smelling much more like a brandy-aged beer than a bourbon-aged beer.
Taste- Taste is significantly better than the nose. Bourbon and chocolate blow my taste buds apart! Smoke and vanilla are there, just like in the nose. I detect chocolate chip cookies cooked in a smoker and dipped in bourbon, and I LOVE IT!
Mouthfeel- Thick, syruppy and luscious...my mouth feels like a just ate a handful of bitter dark chocolate covered coffee beans.
Overall- Really solid beer...Is this on the same level as BA B.O.R.I.S., KBS, BA Blackout Stout or BCBS? No, of course not, but it's really good and worth trying.
