a jet black pour from a 2011 bottle (no head) into a pint glass. smells of alcohol, vanilla beans, caramel, coffee, nuts, honey. holy crap this tastes like a glass of bourbon.. kind of dangerous since it's 7am! hints of coffee, vanilla, roasted grains, a tad nutty... basically the same as all the smells i got.. and very boozey! it's a very heavy beer, very filling, and a little rough going down from the burning sensation! this stout has balls, big ones. i've never had a bourbon barrel beer that tasted this much like the inside of a bourbon barrel (does that make sense?), so great job on that. a little bit too much for my taste, i prefer subtle booziness and more robust flavors - however the flavors ARE robust on this one, so i have to give it a high score for that.

Pours a nearly opaque dark brown to black body beneath the tan head which quickly dissolves to leave only a scattered lacing.

The bourbon leaps right out of the glass and slaps you in the face. Vanilla and if I'm not mistaken even a hi t of maple syrup follow. There are also faint hints of chocolate and muted roasted malt.

A fairly sweet brew on the palate. Again the bourbon jumps to the front of the line with vanilla, maple, wood notes, and sweet dark fruits. Just letting this beer sit on your palate brings forth more character.

On the fuller side in body with lighter carbonation and a boozy, warming finish.

This is a darn good bourbon barrel stout- tons of character to offer and while the bourbon is more forward than some of its counterparts it remains pretty well balanced.

Appearance is thinner than most imperial stouts.

Smell is straight whiskey.

Tastes like chocolate and whiskey.

Mouthfeel not quite there, definitely missing the thick mouthfeel consistent with other imperial stouts.

Overall a great tasting beer and a great choice for bourbon fans.

Appearance: dark dark brown to black. Completely opaque. No head whatsoever

Smell: immediately greeted by booze. Chocolate, dark fruits, lots of bourbon and vanilla. Some oak.

Taste: opens with a little bit of chocolate transitions to some dark fruits iced with bourbon. Ends with a mixture of booze, oak and vanilla.

Mouthfeel: very sticky. Pretty warm.

Overall: a very boozy and bourbony stout. Quite potent for the relative low alcohol percent. Pretty tasty.
