2010 bottle. Poured into town hall snifter:
A - Color is black with only the lightest amount of brown. Hard pour produces a thick egg shell white head about an inch thick. Dies to a foam ring around the edges with murkey clouds of foam in the middle. Lacing is pretty strong and sticky.
S - Nice bourbon aroma with hints of chocolate and roast. Vanilla, oak and caramel. For this being a new batch I'm really suprised that the barrel is not so harsh and strong, rather its really smooth and inviting.
T - Smooth bourbon flavor. Roasty goodness with chocolate and earthy oak. Bourbon is there at first but I'm suprised at how quickly it dies to reveal the other flavors. Don't get me wrong, it stays with you throughout, but just not what I expected out of a brand new batch.
M - Nice carbonation. Pretty silky but also sort of crisp.
D - Pretty easy to drink. The bourbon aging is pretty well done because I expected it to be incredibly harsh based on it being a new batch, but its really not offensive here. The base beer (satin soltice) is already an amazing beer but the barrel aging is quite nice. I'm really glad to be able to drink this and have of much of it as I do, and that I live pretty close to the brewery. Seek out its worth it.

Poured from bottle into Hoppin Frog snifter. Bottle date is 2013. Date of review is 3/8/14.
Appearance- Almost pitch black. Just a tiny bit of light shines through when held up to a bright light. Quarter finger of creamy tan head that disappears within a minute. Tiny little bubbles are floating up from the bottom, which is cool looking.
Smell- Bourbon and green apples right away. After that I get vanilla and smoke. This is smelling much more like a brandy-aged beer than a bourbon-aged beer.
Taste- Taste is significantly better than the nose. Bourbon and chocolate blow my taste buds apart! Smoke and vanilla are there, just like in the nose. I detect chocolate chip cookies cooked in a smoker and dipped in bourbon, and I LOVE IT!
Mouthfeel- Thick, syruppy and luscious...my mouth feels like a just ate a handful of bitter dark chocolate covered coffee beans.
Overall- Really solid beer...Is this on the same level as BA B.O.R.I.S., KBS, BA Blackout Stout or BCBS? No, of course not, but it's really good and worth trying.
