12 oz. bottle of 2011 into a Duvel tulip.
A: A chocolatey pour yields a syrupy dark body with a fine, tan head that peters out quickly into a thin ring and island amid a black sea.
S: Bourbon overwhelms the nose, in a pretty good way. Once that first hit of booze fades, a deep chocolate takes over, followed by a hit of rubbing alcohol. I could do without that last bit, but otherwise it's an enchanting scent.
T: Not as absurdly bourbon-flavored as I expected. In fact, it's pretty balanced between actual stout flavor and barrel notes. Some bourbon right off the bat, but subtle, marrying nicely with hints of vanilla, caramel, and a very respectable malt profile. Everything you could want from a bourbon-barreled stout.
M: The carbonation is fine and tingly, which I actually appreciate. Some bal-aged beers are too flat for the syrupy nectars that they are. This moves along better than a Bourbon County or KBS. Smooth, and not overly boozy or sticky sweet. Top notch.
O: Really pleased. For a beer that I walked into a Binny's and bought off the shelf without any effort (i think it was 12 for the four pack, too), this is a hell of a value, esp. in an era where singles of KBS go for nine or ten bucks. I've got an extra 4-pack tucked away for aging already.

Poured from bottle into Hoppin Frog snifter. Bottle date is 2013. Date of review is 3/8/14.
Appearance- Almost pitch black. Just a tiny bit of light shines through when held up to a bright light. Quarter finger of creamy tan head that disappears within a minute. Tiny little bubbles are floating up from the bottom, which is cool looking.
Smell- Bourbon and green apples right away. After that I get vanilla and smoke. This is smelling much more like a brandy-aged beer than a bourbon-aged beer.
Taste- Taste is significantly better than the nose. Bourbon and chocolate blow my taste buds apart! Smoke and vanilla are there, just like in the nose. I detect chocolate chip cookies cooked in a smoker and dipped in bourbon, and I LOVE IT!
Mouthfeel- Thick, syruppy and luscious...my mouth feels like a just ate a handful of bitter dark chocolate covered coffee beans.
Overall- Really solid beer...Is this on the same level as BA B.O.R.I.S., KBS, BA Blackout Stout or BCBS? No, of course not, but it's really good and worth trying.
