12oz bottle into a snifter
Vintage 2013

Thanks to haveanother1 for sending this one over in a trade!

A: Pours a somewhat thin appearing, black with browning on the edges. 1/2 a fingers width of tan head dissipates down fairly quickly. Leaves a few small patches of lacing.

S: Chocolate, booze, and roasted malt. Cardboard. Nice bourbon notes are prominent. Great nose.

T: Chocolate, coffee with cream and sugar, bourbon...lots of bourbon, some scotch-like peat charcters. The bourbon notes really are huge in this one, which is a good thing in my opinion. Fair amount of boozy ethanol as well. Very tasty but mostly barrel notes, the base beer isnt very prominent.

M/D: Lighter body for the style, a touch thin, moderate carbonation, drinkability is good.

O: Overall, a really tasty beer. A bit thin, but great barrel notes. Glad I got to try this one.

Just bottled 2013
12oz bottle via snifter

A: An assertive pour resulted in a large light colored head that dissipated at an average rate. Head did not have the dark oily look I prefer in big stouts. Beer itself a very dark brown almost black.

S: Bourbon up front then sweet dark fruits and molasses. Smells excellent!

T: Bourbon... smooth bourbon slowly gives way to its stout flavors.

M: lighter than other big BBS and perhaps slightly more carbonated as well.

O: WOW! One of my highest rated beers. I usually dislike stouts with too forward a bourbon flavor or lighter body. Yet, I love this beer! somehow the balance is perfect and these characteristics do not detract from it in the slightest. A MUST try for any lover of barrel Aged Stout!
