Received from Jay23 in Secret Bunny '07...much appreciated...
Very near pitch black, some faint amounts of light gets through when held up. Small tan, light mocha head that left only a ring around the glass and a very thin bubble layer. More head retention would be nice here.
Smell is dark toasted malts, as expected, but not really any charred characters. Some hazlenut coffee and expresso hints along with some chocolate round it out. Overall this smells good, but could be a bit more upfront.
Flavor is alright, but doesn't offer too much up front. Only after the swallow do the toasted flavors start to show. A bit of expresso and coffee again, but this time without the hazlenut hints. Finish is fairly nondescript. No hints of alcohol. Not overly wowed by the flavor.
Mouthfeel is pretty good, but a touch thin. Coats the mouthwell with its slick, somewhat oily body. Low carbonation fine too.
Overall drinkability is just alright in my opinion. Lacks a lot of character for me. It is easy to drink and a somewhat low abv offering of the style. Just doesn't stand out really.

I got a can of this beer off the single shelf from the Festival Store in LaCrosse, Wisconsin. It poured an opaque dark with thin tan ring head that is not leaving any lace. The scent had subtle molasses notes. The taste was nicely balanced and easy to drink mellow semi sweet dark chocolate malt base with common Baltic porter/stout presence. The mouthfeel was medium in body and had good carbonation. Overall it is a great beer.

Canned 12/21/21
Pours a black that is actually dark ruby/brown when back-lit even slightly. A short-lived tan head dissipates to a ring.
Aromas of cocoa, molasses, and a hint of dark fruit with a slightly woody (veering a little too close to cardboardy) underlayment.
Molasses is prominent up front and then a range of flavors hit: dark fruit, cocoa, semi-sweet chocolate, roast grain, toasted pumpernickel. Everything is a bit muddled though. A good amount of roast bitterness comes through about halfway through the sip and lingers through the finish and aftertaste as roast coffee. Underlying everything is that hint of cardboard again.
Quite light bodied for the style with moderate carb. I'm not getting any of the creamy and smooth feel from the brewer's description.
Overall, not bad but not a beer that holds up at over 2 years old. Really more like a mediorce old ale at this point than an imp. stout. I'll happily update this review if I ever get my hands on a reasonably fresh can.

Not as thick, rich and complex as I typically expect, but the ABV is much lower, so that makes sense.
It’s still a really good beer, just a bit different than a typical Imperial Stout. If you want a lower ABV and maybe lower cost, and you can give a little on the complexity and thick richness of an imperial stout, this is a great pick.

12oz can
This is a top tier stout, just as full and flavorful as some stuff I've had that were 2-3x the price. A variety of luscious dark malts all the way down. It's simple but effective

Everything is relative. This beer is not as powerful as the barrel reserve cousins but it has less alcohol (if drinking more beer without getting bombed is a goal) and comes with less cost per bottle. Still has plenty of flavor and color, just not as complex and rich as Central Water's top of the line.

Looks fine - decent head, lots of bubbles in the body.
No noticeable smell
Very smooth to drink. Slight dry finish - pleasant.
Overall very drinkable (as the label says). It is nice to have an imperial stout not BA once in a while.

Taste: silky dark molasses and dark malts cocoa, and smokey tobacco notes. Woody, molasses malt nose. Dark brown/black, semi clear, with tan head and ringed lace. Full body. Roasted smokey notes would pair well with BBQ, Had many years ago.

Pours a standard deep molasses black with a thick tan head that was larger than expected. It smells like sweet chocolate and coffee with hints of roasted hazelnuts and slight hints of toffee and caramel on the finish. The taste has the semi sweet chocolate up front with a slightly acidic coffee bitterness in the middle followed by a slightly dry nuttiness with an almost sweet warming alcoholic finish. It goes down very smooth, but the higher alcohol content is more apparent than I was expecting, but it doesn't detract from the quality of the beer. Overall an awesome imperial stout especially if you're tired of barrel aged ones. It's not so boozy you couldn't have more than one. Overall one of the best imperial stout I've ever had.
