Pours a dark brown color with a good size brown head that dissipates quickly. A little bit of lacing.

Smells of roasted coffee and dark chocolate. Lightly toasted malts. Just a slight hint of booze. Not the most complex of aromas. Could benefit from a few more scents.

Taste goes right along with the aroma. Boy, is this one smooth, too. Roasted coffee and chocolate lead the way. The coffee really sticks on the tongue. More roasted malts on the back end. Pretty well balanced. The taste does a lot more for this beer than the aroma. It's not the strongest tasting Stout out there, but it is well balanced.

Mouthfeel is not too heavy. One of the lighter stouts I've ever had. Surprisingly watery (not criticism, just observation).

Overall this a good stout, but it is a bit on the mild side. Still solid.

look: 4 | smell: 4 | taste: 4.25 | feel: 4.5 | overall: 4.25

Appearance: This dark brown brew pours out a thick, creamy, oatmeal colored head three fingers high and slowly dissipating to a thick ring with lots of sticky lacing on the glass as I drink it down.

Smell: A heavenly aroma of roasty mocha fills the nose with notes of toffee and molasses behind it.

Taste: Rich mocha flavored roasted malt with very little hop bitterness overwhelms the tongue, followed by hints of sweet molasses balanced by the bitterness of the dark malts. The sweetness is there but isn't overwhelming, not so forward as, say, Samuel Smiths, but well balanced by the mocha and roasted malt.

Mouth feel: This is a big, full bodied imperial stout with soft, creamy carbonation filling the mouth spreading the flavor all around. The gentle bitterness hangs around for a long finish.

Overall: This is now one of my favorite imperial stouts, supplanting Samuel Smith's and Lagunitas and combining the best characteristics of both. I need to get more of this.

Pours a very deep ruby red, can just see the color when held up to the light. Forms a thin tan hand that quickly dissipates to some lacing across the top.

Smell is chocolate, roasted malt, toffee, and coffee.

Coffee notes are dominant at first, there's some chocolate, cherry, and dried fruit, mainly raisin. Finishes a little sweet mixed in with some bitterness.

Fairly smooth going down, but feels a bit thin, I feel it should have a bit more body to it.

A fairly average take on the style. I expect this type of beer to be big and complex, and this one falls just short. It is almost a coffee stout, as I am picking up a lot of coffee flavors in it, I would have liked to see more of the chocolate and fruit come out. Not a bad beer by any stretch, just one that doesn't stand out with so many great beers out there.
