Much love to blackie for the bottle.

Appearence: It may look like it's black, but when really paid attention to, this is a hazy, dark brown. Dark chocolate colored. Quite beautiful to look at though. The head is tan, strong as hell, and leaves nice lacing.

Smell: Smells like a monster! Would never have guessed it was only 7.5%. The complexity is through the roof, the balance is perfect. and it just smells so quality. Coffee and roasted nuts as well as chocolate, caramel, and molasses, still with decent hop bitterness. Nice!

Taste and Mouthfeel: Very English tasting. Reminds me of a little stronger, more complex Sammy Smith Imperial Stout. Very bittersweet, with strong chocolate and coffee notes. The alcohol is noticable, but not overbearing. The hops are strong, and balance everything out nicely. The mouthfeel is smooth and creamy, but not too thick.

Drinkability and Overall: Like I said earlier, a very English tasting beer. I really enjoyed drinking this, and I really wish we could get it locally. I'm very glad I got to try this, and I recommend it to any imperial stout fan who doesn't want something over the top. This is a very clean, balanced beer, not as in-your-face as many other American imperial stouts, and right now, that is a very good thing.

Sampled last night on 7/27/14. Label is different that picture showed. Bottle chilled down to 36 degrees F in my beer cooler and poured in to a brandy snifter glass.

Pours a very deep brown, black actually in color with a small beige head. Some spotty lacing is seen. Perfect carbonation. The aroma is very nice and consists of roasted coffee, hint of licorice and dark chocolate. More going on with the taste actually with lots of flavor from the above flavors with a hint of light spice even. This is a sipper type of brew and not a chugging type. Goes down easy and seem to get better with more sips. Well balanced overall.

Pours a dark brown color with a good size brown head that dissipates quickly. A little bit of lacing.

Smells of roasted coffee and dark chocolate. Lightly toasted malts. Just a slight hint of booze. Not the most complex of aromas. Could benefit from a few more scents.

Taste goes right along with the aroma. Boy, is this one smooth, too. Roasted coffee and chocolate lead the way. The coffee really sticks on the tongue. More roasted malts on the back end. Pretty well balanced. The taste does a lot more for this beer than the aroma. It's not the strongest tasting Stout out there, but it is well balanced.

Mouthfeel is not too heavy. One of the lighter stouts I've ever had. Surprisingly watery (not criticism, just observation).

Overall this a good stout, but it is a bit on the mild side. Still solid.
