Poured into a pint glass.
Very light in color for a stout--mahogany in color, and translucent with a thin, tan head that leaves a little lacing. Looks more like a brown ale.
The smell is amazing. Coffee dominates, and while I'm not a coffee drinker, I like the smell of it. Dark chocolate and toffee as well.
Again, I'm not a coffee drinker, but I like the taste of coffee in my stouts. Given that, this one does not disappoint. Bitter dark chocolate and cocoa, with a nice, finish that hold the bitterness perfectly.
The mouthfeel is very good, smooth somehow, despite the pleasant bitterness. Moderate carbonation, which is just right for this style.
Not bad on the drinkability level; coffee stouts in general aren't typically the most drinkable to me. One per sitting is enough. Given how prominent the coffee presence is in this one, I put it at average, but that by no means it's not delicious--it's just meant to be consumed in moderation.
Great beer overall.

Thanks yet again to Andrew for the bottle.

Pours jet black, ring of off white head, no lace to speak of. Smell is of coffe and roast, chocolate both of the milk and dark variety, not a lot more going on but still a seemless blend of coffee, roast and chocolate. Taste is of coffee and roast, faint bit of char, chocolate, moderate bitterness throughout coming from both chocolate and hops, ashy/char/roast aftertaste. Lightly carbonated, medium full body. A great coffee stout that should be held in the same regard as Peche Mortel and FBS, something I would very much like to revisit again.

1 pt, 6 oz bottle:

Pours black with a tan head that slowly becomes a thin cover that eventually settles to a lasting large island. Spotted lacing sticks.

The smell is rich and robust. Wonderful! Strong black coffee with dark grain and earthy/rooty notes - especially anise/licorice. Some plum mixes in.

The taste is also rich. Black coffee is powerful, but is balanced enough to let a complex imperial stout come through. Earthy, dark fruity, chocolate-like flavors mix with the coffee very well. The alcohol mixes in well, also - giving some mild warmth that enhances the layers of complexity. Sweet and roasty balanced finish. Root-like notes linger.

It has a silky, smooth body.

Rich and complex, yet very easy-to-drink. Coffee mixes very well with the strong stout character. This is a great brew! (And, well-priced, to boot!) Great example of the style!
