12oz bottle poured into a snifter. Bottle generously provided as an extra by brian23456, thanks Brian!
A - Pours a pretty dark brown, surprisingly light for a double stout. The head is about a finger's worth tall with low retention. The lacing is some of the most non-existent I've seen on any beer; after sipping halfway through, it looks like my glass is almost completely clean.
S - The smell is foremost focused on caramel and vanilla, it smells more like a slight funk than having any defined cherry characteristics. Some slight acetone notes that give off a slightly unpleasant nail polish smell, but they are subtle.
T - As in the nose, I'm getting a lot of the vanilla and some slight oak moreso than the bourbon in this beer. Fortunately, the acetone is mitigated here and the stout seems to shine through and give off some nice chocolate flavors that help the overall profile. The cherries here aren't tart and in my opinion, come through almost solely in the finish. I would've liked to see them play a bigger role here. Alcohol is present in the little acetone that remains, but it's still unfortunately a deterrent.
M - Mouthfeel is relatively thin with moderately low carbonation. Pretty smooth and leaves a bourbon-filled finish.
D - Drinkability is moderate. I think this beer is trying to do a bit too much while failing to flesh out the individual qualities that make up this beer. The bourbon isn't very noticeable until the end when all the other flavors fall out, the cherries contribute a somewhat medicinal taste, and the stout is too thin doesn't have enough of the base beer shining through.

Another one thanks to Tom P. 10/11 vintages side by side.
No head, dark murky molasses color
Nose nice dark choc, caramel, hint of balotin cherry, very light vanilla barrel, the older is a bit more soft and less cherry.
Taste semi sweet, little choc, plenty of balotin cherry real balotin but not super cherry like, light barrel, nice choc on the back end, mild bitterness too, little cocoa nib. Age is again a little flatter in the taste.
Somewhat flat too, med to fuller bod, mild booze.
