P: 2012 edition. 12oz bottle from 4pk purchased at Trig's Cellar 70 in Eagle River, WI. Poured cold into snifter and allowed to warm, sampling along the way.
A: Deep, dark brown with copper hues on edges. Lighter color than expected. Brief tan head made an appearance dropping into a ring of light foam. Solid legs with swirling.
S: Roast coffee, toffee, burnt sugar, vanilla oakiness, dark chocolate, and bourbon booze.
T: Coffee roast, rich dark chocolate. Sweet malt in the middle chased with the bourbon. More bourbon as it warmed but not overwhelming.
M: Medium body, some prickly carbonation. Pretty smooth given the big flavors involved. Body helps carry the flavors and transitions well.
O: Very cool beer. Tasty now and I look forward to the effects time has on it. I've had some other coffee bourbon barrel beers that are abrasive or just taste burnt. Not here. Central Waters is getting damn good with their barrels.

Poured from a 12 ounce bottle into a snifter. This is a 2014 vintage.
Appearance: Pours very dark brown/nearly black and leaves a finger of dark tan/light brown head, which fades to a layer around the glass.
Smell: Big, roasty coffee beans up front, roasted malts, light fudge. Nice balanced aroma with some big flavors.
Taste: A bit of vinous, slightly sour flavor upfront, along with coffee beans, some dark chocolate, oak, malts. The sour doesn't help the flavor, but rather nearly dominates it.
Mouth-feel: Medium carbonation with a medium, creamy body. Finishes smooth, a bit sour.
Overall: Definitely a nice, coffee stout, but the sour in the taste is a bit offputting. It doesn't completely dominate the taste but does give it a twist. Still, a nice stout.
