This 12oz bottle has been in my cellar for two years. I've kept it out of light and between 55 & 65 degrees since February of

A - I have to say the appearance has suffered a bit from its time in the cellar. The head is minimal at less that a quarter inch and fades very quick to leave just an edging between the surface and the pint glass. The body looks thin and even offers some translucence even while maintaining a dark brown color.

S - The coffee aroma is nearly nonexistent. The toffee is too missing from the act leaving behind a meek but fresh chocolate scent.

T - The flavors have mutated as well. The coffee has taken a step off the podium allowing a very nice balance to show up between it and chocolate. The finish still maintains the deep coffee flavor. This is a really good tasting beer. I think the taste has gotten better while its been in the cellar.

M - The feel is smooth and rather watery for an imperial stout. That being said it goes down easily without any abrasion and keeps a nice stickiness on my tongue reminding me to keep going back from more... like I need reminding. I think the feel may have suffered slightly in the cellar.

~ The 'head' on this brew is great. A quarter of the way done with the pint and even with a closed sphincter pylorus I am feeling the effects of a beer flowing at greater than 8% abv. Regardless of the abv this is a beer that deserves some time in your cellar. If its available in your area I recommend you find one and stash it for a rainy day.

(The below review was captured on Nov 14, 2009)

A - Black body with a two inch head that is frothy and loud. Its large bubbled head fades at a medium pace before reaching a nice hummocky top. 4

S - The scent of pungent coffee and harsh toffee make up the aroma. 3

T - Dark coffee flavor with an alcohol finish. 4

M - Smooth and laid back texture allows this one to flow with ease. 4.5

~ This is a good brew but I have to say the Central Waters Coffee Stout is a bit better. 4

(I had this beer cellared since March of '09 at a temp of 55 to 65 degrees.)

Bottle into Lost Abbey stemware.

Like mixed paint, dark yet thin. One finger of fuzzy latte-colored head lays atop like a fleece blanket.

Smells like mocha of the highest quality. Crumbly cocoa, espresso, vanilla, graham cracker.

Tangy. Has this gone sour? Coffee bitterness quickly becomes sour dark cherries. Mocha and oak can be picked up, but the tartness is overpowering. It's not totally bad, but it definitely doesn't belong.

The fleece blanket descriptor I used before might be better here. The body is smooth and creamy, the fizz moderate and tingly.

Wish the sour stuff wasn't here -- I'm sure this is a great beer when fresh.

12 FLUID OZ bottle
Served in a snifter

A - It pour black with less than an inch of mocha head. There is some lacing.

S - The coffee was noticeable immediately. After some warming the bourbon begins to come through with caramel and vanilla.

T - The taste follows the same path. Initially, it was coffee. Approaching room temperature released the bourbon flavors. The coffee faded to the background while caramel and bourbon replaced it. A lingering bourbon aftertaste was the final result.

M - Smooth and full with low carbonation.

O - I haven't been this worried about an infection since that time I hooked up with a chick in the parking lot of a Red Roof Inn. Luckily, both instances were infection free. This is an excellent coffee stout, but the infection rumors had me apprehensive. I am enjoying this beer very much on a borderline chilly Independence Day eve.

2013 bottle as an extra in trade. Pours black with a one finger dark khaki head. Aroma of chocolate, some coffee, vanilla oak, bourbon. Flavor is bourbon heavy though not boozy, barely any coffee, light chocolate, nice vanilla finish. Bit of a Jack and Coke flavor going on here, supplemented by the lack of body. Body is on the thin side with medium carbonation. Overall a nice flavor but seems to need a good bit more body. Doesn't seem like this one is infected so that's good! Not bad but I don't think I'll seek this one out again.
