Poured from a bottle into two tiny snifters on June 1, 2013.

Appearance: Pitch black liquid, mocha foam with decent retention for the ABV.

Aroma: Potent notes of coffee, oak/vanilla, bourbon, and caramel.

Taste: Coffee notes up front, leading to dark chocolate bitterness and roast, fading to a sweet and caramel note on the finish.

Mouthfeel: A bit thin.

Overall: Peruvian Morning is a great barrel-aged coffee stout. The coffee is well balanced, doesn't appear to have faded too much, and isn't at all stale tasting.

A: Slow receading tiny bubbles in a latte foam / tan color. Dark dark brown to black color, hints of light peak throught the edges of the imperial pint glass.

S: Roasted coffee, cocoa, dark candy sugar and roasty malt dominate the nose. Alcohol is detected, possibly the bourbon, and vanilla.

T: Big chocolatey, coffee and toasty malt sweetness. Complex! and balanced and the same time. Bitterness is strong and only punctuates the amazing roasty, vanilla, chocolate of this beer.. wow, drink this one on the warmer side.

M: Tingly tounge sensation, possibly from bourbon? big chewy body and low carbonation. zero astringancy or alcohol warming.

O: A.. fucking.. mazing.. central waters is an asset to the state of WI and is often over looked by the beer geeks here. Too bad.. Peruvian Morning rivals the best stouts I've ever had.

ZADS! What a MOUTHFUL! One of the strongest - could be THE strongest stout I've ever had. Kinda like if you palette knifed the tar off a cigar stain and scraped up the residue of dried espresso and dissolved it in bourbon stirred with a vanilla stick. Thankfully - one of the reviewers caught that vanilla whisper - it escaped me until I went back and read the reviews - vanilla was that "odd unidentifiable edge".

I usually expect a stout to stand up to a cigar - in this case I wonder if a maduro could handle THIS stout. Just sayin'.

A = Very dark brown and opaque with a thick stubborn mocha head.

S = Stoutishly caramel and coffee with burned oak.

T = Espresso, woody, bourbon with a vein of vanilla.

M = Full body cream; the very nice mouth feel is interrupted with knife of bitterness.

O = I'm OK with this beer as a stout but it is a heavyweight for beginners in stout enjoyment. I am STILL quite jarred by the flavor profile and that was OVER an HOUR AGO! I think the best enjoyment of this beer for me is paired with a dark maduro; a longlasting Churchill.
