Pours dark chestnut in color with ruby highlights and a moderate cap of khaki froth with good retention. Broad sheets of lacing linger along the periphery as the beer descends. Complex aroma smells of dark fruit, molasses, dark chocolate, caramel, and a hint of peat and cherry cough syrup. The presentation is pretty much exemplary for the style.

The taste features toasted bread, plums, currants, dates, and a hint of molasses. A dash of herbal hops lend contrast and a slightly medicinal twinge, manifesting mostly in toward middle. Hints of milk chocolate begin to appear as the beer warms. Residual sweetness lingers on the lips. The complex malt profile reminds me of O'So Night Train, though they're technically different styles. The body is on the thin side, giving it a loose mouthfeel that doesn't quite lend the taste the support it deserves.

Overall, this is a fine Scottish ale, one of the best I've tried. The presentation and complexity are both excellent. A more robust body would really elevate this brew to the next level.

12oz bottle poured into pint glass.

A- pours dark brown with reddish orange highlights.
tight head that dissipates quickly into a small layer on top.

S- malty, raisin, toasty toffee, dates, some earth hop in the faint background.

T- starts sweet smooth and hints of dark caramel, hazelnut. Then nice dry bitterness moves in and a bit of alcohol flavor not off putting though. Finishes dry with a smokey, chocolate hazelnut flavor which lingers paired with a slight alcohol aftertaste.

M- smooth medium bitterness and carb.

O- amazing balance. These beers are often to sweet with nothing to balance.
This beer I could recognise three facets to the flavor, sweet to start, nice bite to dry the sweetness in the middle and a huge flavor in the end that gains clarity from the dry middle. Best Scottish ale I've had.

12oz bottle poured into a pokal glass.

A - Dark brown with good clarity. Tan head holds a solid cap for the style. Tons of lacing.

S - Rich caramel and chocolate malt. Hinting at some ripe red fruit. Mild roasty notes. Grassy hops.

T - A very even flavor profile throughout. Munich malts with a touch of some caramel. Sweetness perceived early with a fruity yeast quality but dries out on the backend nicely from some bitterness. Little bit of acidity in there. Earthy hop flavors on the backend leave this beer perfectly balanced for the style. Lingering roast replicating swallowed coffee grounds.

M - Medium to medium-full body, light carbonation, semi-dry.

O - Quite a memorable scottish ale. Well-crafted balance that lets the traditionally malty beer give way to some bitterness and delicate hop aroma and flavor. Some strange acidity threw me off a bit but doesn't ruin my experience. Many breweries carry a scottish ale that is truly Americanized but this is modern yet traditional.

Recommendation - One more for the malt lover and much fresher than any import you can find on the shelf at any liquor store. If you see it, grab it.

A-pours a dark chestnut with light ruby highlights and a thing layer of creamy head that sticks to the glass

S-sticky caramel malt, rum soaked raisins, toffee, and brown sugar

T-taste is similar to the smell but with a bit more bitterness and smoke to the taste. Getting a light cola taste.

M-very light medium body with light to medium carbonation

Overall one of the better Scottish ale's I've had as it is not cloyingly sweet. The bitterness helps to balance out the sweet malt
