Pours a clear golden, frothy head that leaves a curtain of lace.

Citrus and grassy hops over a biscuity malt base, a hint of pineapple.

I'm getting mostly grapefruit atop the biscuity malt, which mellows into a slightly grassy/green pepper note that lingers throughout.

Clean, light mouthfeel.

I'm really surprised that this was 4.5. Nice amount of hopping, good balance, and light enough you could have a couple - I think they nailed what they were going for here. I'm impressed.

Picked this up last week at the Whole Foods on Houston St. in New York, having never had a beer from Central Waters before and never hearing about them until I saw this on the shelf. Session IPA's seems to be the Black IPA's of 2014 so I grabbed this and wanted to see if this really fit the bill. While low on alcohol in taste, there was just a bit of something missing from here to really make this fully enjoyable. It would be easy to kick back the whole six-pack in a sitting if the taste was just a bit better and more enjoyable!

What a fabulous pour this beer had, as the hazy deep golden hue, frothy head, and voluminous lacing all combined for a really pleasing appearance. There was enough carbonation in this and I poured it just right that the result was a mini-tornado of bubbles in this beer, spinning its way through the middle of the liquid! Once that settled down, the bubbles were still to be seen in regular carbonated form. Not a strong aroma to this as I could pick put grapefruit, orange rind, and biscuit malt. Then came the taste - why was this slightly burnt? Or was it skunk? This was so weak in the strength of its potency that I had to swish it around for a bit to find out. Some grass and floral notes were in here too but this seemed too complex for something that shouldn't have been. Yet for some odd reason, this wasn't to terribly hard to down.

Of course, this was a session beer and had I not had a shift to complete the day after, I would have given this another go. This seemed like a lighter version of the Southern Tier Hop Sun but not as strong or as bright when it came to the maltier aspects of this beer. Sure, this would be better than grabbing a watered-down "lawnmower beer" but I feel that this has a lot of room for improvement. Having mango, and rings of lacing as the remnants once I finished was decent, but the soapy mouthfeel and lingering dry, burnt aftertaste left something to be desired.
