750 mL unlabeled bottle. 1984 vintage.
Appearance - Revolting pond water. Black specks of some unknown substance
No head.
Smell - Oxidized. Mild acidity and a lot of fruitiness. It's got a gross smell, really.
Taste - It's really sour. And it gets more sour as it goes. Stone fruit sourness. Remarkably clean sour flavor. Very yeasty. Yogurty finish.
Mouthfeel - Low carbonation. Medium body.
Overall - It isn't as bad as it smells. It's a little gross, but it has its redeeming qualities.

375ml bottle 5,0% Abv.
Served chilled in a wine glass.
Best Before: June 1993
A massive thanks to Futura for this one.
Appearance: Eylenbosch Geuze pours a lightly hazed amber-orange colour and appears pretty flat, with a rough pour not even yielding a a hint of a head. The beer does seem thicker than normal for a sour, with a swirl resulting in a light film on the glass.
Smell: Sadly it doesn't seem as though there is much in the way of sourness left in this beer, as the initial nose is comprised almost entirely of sweet apple juice, with a little old cork also present. After a few minutes the nose opens up with notes of old books, mushroom, sweet fruitiness and some oxidization, but still nothing in the way of sourness.
Taste: As the nose suggested, there is nothing in the way of tartness and is in fact rather sweet. The flavour offers a ton of apple juice, a little cardboard oxidization, some old cork and a little old wood.
Mouthfeel: As expected, the beer is absolutely still with no trace of carbonation what so ever and the body is medium, with an odd hint of stickiness.
Overall: Having tasted both this and the Eylenbosch Kriek, I can't help but think that these beers were sweetened and somewhat like the modern Lindeman's and I think that is the reason that they haven't aged gracefully like many other lambics.

1984 vintage
The beer is golden to apricot in color with a small, fleeting head. The aroma brings well water, mineral scents. Notable signs of age in both the aroma and flavor. A touch of cider. Nice pucker and tartness in the finish. Citrus flavors have faded for the most part. Earthy and mineral notes. What a cool experience.

'84 vintage (my birth year!), purchased earlier this year from In de Verzekering tegen de Grote Dorst, and opened with good friends at a truly epic Lambic tasting on 8/25/12. Poured from the 750ml corked bottle in a Lambic basket into a 3 Fonteinen wine-style glass. Review #1500.
A: The cork has been completely soaked through, but it seems as though the moisture has been kept contained by the cap and yellow plastic shrink-wrap. The cork comes out in one solid piece, and the beer pours a cloudy, bright orange body with a thin, fizzy head of white foam that settles into a solid ring. It's just ok, but I'm excited to see carbonation at all given the leakage issue.
S: The aroma is old, musty, delicate, and earthy. There's lots of flinty, gunpowdery minerality; oaky cobwebs; and dry grape skin. As it warms, some more purely acidic fruit notes come out - lemon and peach. It's very complex, aromatic, and deep. Amazing.
T: Mmm. There's rich fruity sourness right up front, with lemon and tropical fruit flavors quickly giving way to dry mustiness and profound loamy earthiness. Very dry and oaky with lingering acidity on the finish. Delicious, and remarkably different from the nose. Terrific.
M: Light-to-medium body with light, soft carbonation and intense prickly acidity. Interesting.
O: This was one of the most complex and most delicious Geuzes I've ever had, and it was truly a special moment in an incredibly special evening. It's such a shame that this brewery has gone under, as this was truly a masterpiece of blending and aging. The funkiness was similar to that found in my beloved 3 Fonteinen Lambics, and was balanced with just enough fruitiness to keep any one aspect from dominating. So, so good. I wish I could afford to order more.
Cheers!
