looks great, smells wonderful.....tasted like spoiled fruit juice. Took three sips then threw the rest away.

This tastes like winegum, and there is almost no foam. It is quite citric.

This beer was bought in France for a whopping 2,5 EUR, and I see nothing in it's quality to justify it, it's a sweet-sour beer that tastes like more like strawberry/cherry wine. The aftertaste lasts very long, at least that is value for money.

Mort Subite translates to Sudden or Instant Death. Yep, that pretty well describes this muddled mess. There seem to be too many ingredients. Very sweet but bland in the fruit department. Taste needs more cherries. Smell is pretty good though, fruity with a mixture of berries and medicinal sweet cherries. Thick frothy pink head looks good. Very pink, impressively pink.

On-tap at Churchill's, served in a tulip.

Pours blood red with a little tinge of pink. One finger bright white head. Lacing and retention are good.

Smells like Maraschino cherries mixed with table sugar. This seems like it should be mixed with ice cream...

Tastes mostly like one of those fruity vodka drinks your girlfriend might order at a bar. Super syrupy and sugary. Not a touch of alcohol can be tasted here. It does taste like cherries, so there's that. I can feel a sugar rush hitting me...

Creamy mouthfeel with stinging high carbonation.

This beer is too sweet and sugary. Consider drinking it if you're reaching for a Smirnoff Ice. You just got iced, bro.

On tap at Washington Commons. Happy birthday, Max!

Red beer, good head, nearly clear. Sexy appearance. Yum. But then I smelled it. Ludens cherry cough drops. This isn't beer. This is the drug store. Ouch. Nostrils flare, another sniff, whoof, more medicine. Such a shame. The taste is still consistent, with a terrible aftertaste, persistent softness ad sweetness, but besides tart, there's nothing to the taste until the medicinal end.

Time to pack the girlfriend for the trip home to Atlanta. She liked this beer, but I didn't love it. Still love the style though.

Served On-Tap

A – Pours a very deep and dark red tinged amber. Head is bubbly but fades very quickly.

S – Smells of artificially sweetened fruits and sugars, like cherry kool-aid and cough syrup.

T – Tastes tart initially, then leads into a cloyingly sweet and artificial tone of cherries and sugars.

O – Underwhelming overall, and comes off exceedingly sweet.

Sweet cherry flavour, with perhaps a bit of late sourness and tartness. Pretty light and refreshing, which makes it good to drink in summer, however it is perhaps a bit too sweet for me.

Red color, beautiful, with a compact pink foam.
At the smell, cherries. Sugary.
Same notes in the taste, with just a little bit of sourness. Not cloying, anyway.
Fit as aperitif, drinkable, but for sure not a traditional kriek.
Sugary and sweetened.
Just a hint of sourness.

A: Lovely bright ruby red color with a foamy pink head that settles quickly, decent lacing.
S: Aroma of candied cherries, very straightforward.
T: No surprises, just fruit and sugar. Very sweet, like children's cough syrup.
M: Slightly thin body.
D: You must like sweet beers to enjoy this one.

the champagne of kriek beers, its deep red like bull´s blood, spontaneous fermentation, like wine, its smell presents wheat, cherry, malt, hops; taste ample harmonious, a little metalic; good for cheese, and german cuisine, drinkabilty over the average, because is like appetizer; try with goblet. 78% recommended.

A- White lacing with mild retention on a blood red colored beer. Looks like something you would drink on halloween to simulate blood or something.

S- Wow, wayy too sweet for me. i have a huge sweet tooth and this is too much for me.

T- like a liquid cherry jolly rancher. way too sweet, luckily it finishes fairly clean so it doesnt stay with you.

M- very light and delicate, not too dry.

O- Too sweet for me, ill pass.

Green cork and caged 37.5cl bottle, best before Sept 09, drank May 09. Poured into a 'Palm' tulip shaped glass.

Rose wine look about it, pinky red, with a thin white head that became a wisp and collar very quickly.

Sweet cherryade smell, but with a sour twist too.

The taste was also sweet and sour, very cherry and getting more sour as the beer warmed.

A little on the thin side when compared to others within this style. It is almost watery once you get through the fruit flavours.

The sweet and sour mix suits my palate and I can see traditionalists pooh-poohing the sweetness and wanting more sourness, but I thought it fine.

I had this on tap at De Muze in Antwerpen. It's a dark red carbonated candy in a glass. I really wanted to like this - I expected it to be more complex... To me, this is not much better than the very commercially available Lindeman's. It tastes artificial. This is a beer for the non-beer drinker at your party. Well, I will give fruit lambics another try with the near 10-year-old kriek I recently acquired.

Purchased a growler at a place not far from my home. I go back and forth with Lambic and this beer is one of the reasons. I want to like it more but it is on the verge of being way too sweet. The color is almost too red, it looks like cranberry juice and the taste that lingers isn't something far from cranberry juice. I don't think I will be getting another one, especially at the price I paid.

12 ounce pour in a footed goblet. Bright red and brilliantly clear, topped with a slim cap that had a pinkish tint. Delicate concentric rings of drippy lacing. An ever present, mottled veil of skim sits on the surface.

Lightly sweet cherry aroma, initial wafts of damp dishrag must and minerals. Something vaguely medicinal about the cherry, but nothing hinting at a traditional lambic so far.

Cherry tartness hits first, then the club soda spritzer carbonation fizzes you into submission. Towards the end of the glass the carb settles down, but initially it tastes like a cherry soda or wine cooler. The cherry taste is tart however, like natural juice and not overtly artificial. Feel is a bit hollow and it tastes somewhat one dimensional, but it's better than expected.

"Matured in oak casks for several months" says the promo material... why even bother? Sort of a joke compared to traditional lambic producers aging for years to achieve the depth and complexity sorely missing here.

Bottle at reffer temp into a goblet.

Head small (<2 cm), white with pinkish tinge, creamy, mostly diminishing.
Lacing fair.
Body clear, light red (not pinK), light to medium palate, watery to creamy.
Carbonation fizzy.

I first had this beer at Belgo Centraal in the Covent Garden region of London. It was a fantastic introduction to lambic and kriek beers. Then it seemed to disappear for a couple of years. Now it's back as a mass-produced product complete with artificial flavoring and color. Sad, really, that it's no worse than Bud.

G: Duvel Tulip

A: Dark pinkish red body that allows light to escape around the edges of the glass. Pour with a nice two finger white head with moderate lacing and retention. Leaves amazing lacing, even the beer coming back down after a drink sticks to the glass.

S: Strong sweet cherry candy aroma and not much else.

T: Such a strong front of sweet cheery with a following of sourness. Although it's only one flavour the sweet and sourness makes it seems as two.

M: Medium body and light carbonation. It's very light and crisp while leaving a sweet and sour finish. Reminds me of a cherry sour patch kids candy.

D: I wanted to try this since it's my first lambic and I'm impressed. It seems like it's just liquid cherry candy, but I'm intrigued by the style and will seek out more.

If this beer was cheaper I'd by it again, but at the moment I cannot justify the price.

Bottle – Poured a reddish brew with good carbonation. Aroma of cherries is overpowering with nothing else coming out in terms of aroma. Taste is bit too much cheery with not enough tart and tannic. Overall, this one is very refreshing but not the best from Mort Subite, nor close to the great kriek lambic.

The beer is red with hints of brown, a pinkish small head with little lacing.

The smell is of sweet cherries, lemon and lemonade.

The taste is a bit like a cough syrup with cherry taste. Sweet and sour fruits, lemon, strawberries and elderberries.

Medium carbonation, a sugary feeling.

A rather typical kriek aiming for a broader public, a bit too sweet for me. As a digestif with some strong coffee after dinner it might work.

Sorry but this following comment is in french :

Appearance : lambic à la robe rouge soutenue, belle mousse compacte tenant peu, effervesence importante
Smell : arômes assez coplexes (vanille, amande, cerise ...)
Taste and mouthfeel : douce et acidulée, présence de la cerise
Drinkability : une bière lambic correcte mais sans plus

Pours sparkling deep cherry red with a pinkish head, very creamy head that laces well. Aroma of Vick's cough drops, Vick's cough drops, and more Vick's cough drops. Sweet cherry front, becoming tart in the middle and the finish. Mouthfeel was quite fizzy, a little too fizzy. This is not something I'd want a lot of, still, red beer is neat.

Pours clear pale red with large foamy head that very slowly goes to dense half finger head and stays like that till the end of the glass. Aroma is lightly acidic sweet malt, could not detect any cherries.

Taste is syrupy cherry, weak sour with clean finish and cherry aftertaste. Mouthfeel is light with average carbonation.

Overall, not bad, but feels rather bland.

37.5cl bottle poured into a Delirium Tremens chalice.

A- Dark cherry red body with excellent clarity and a creamy sustained 3 finger head that produces super lacing.

S- Cherry notes but not overkill with a nice acidic/sour note. Slight marzipan and earthiness

T- All the flavours are there but die so quickly. A mix of cherry up front balancing to an earthy acidic finish, but all of a sudden all the flavours die into a dull lifeless finish.

M- Low carbonation, a bit lifeless, medium body. Not spritzy enough at all

D- Looks the part and smells promising, but this all melts away into a lifeless beer on the tongue. Shame.

Very thick, long lasting, foamy, tan head. Hasy brown body. Smell like cherry, a lot, combined with aromas that resemble red wine. Taste is like cherry again, very sweet at the begining, some tartness in the end that makes you feel you are drinking the fermented fruit. The tartness tends to lower down as the beer heats up to room temperature, makes the beer more enjoyable.

I feel like im drinking a pink wine with the smell of a red that looks like a beer.

Its the first lambic i taste, i dont know what to say, i think it fits the style properly, but it not my favorite beer style at all. Myabe is just that i miss the taste of malt from this beer (which i dont feel at all).

The Mort Subite became my pioneer expedition into Belgian Lambic. I did not have high
expectations and true enough it was not really impressive. Coincidentally, this bottle is
Cherry flavour (Kriek) which is the same flavour as the Klosterbrauerei Neuzelle Kirsch
Bier which I tasted some time ago. The Mort Subite pours out with a generous head which
grows and sinks in quickly; I managed to do a nice pour on this one. This lambic smells
a little fruity, a little yeasty and also rather sour. The taste was about reflecting this
smell except maybe the fruitiness is stronger. I am not sure however if it was the yeast
or the malt that gives of a strange taste which felt a little medicinal and somehow spoilt
the experience. The fruitiness and subtle sweetness was not enough to save the day. I
think I prefer the German Nuezelle Kirsch to this Mort Subite Kriek. The Mort Subite is ok
and I can recognize the effort to make it more beery than the Nuezelle Kirsh which was closer
to the level of syrupy than any beers I have tried but I would probably save on ordering
this one. Nevertheless, I would probably still try other Lambics like the Lindermans,
Timmermans which are available in Singapore. The Cantillon is, unfortunately unavailable.
Other Lambics like the Floris and the De Troch Chapeau would be stuff I would probably just
pass on.
