Bottle. Pours really dark brown, looks clear, and is topped by a small, beige head. The aroma is maybe a bit boring. Not bad, just a bit boring. Theres burnt and roasted malt, theres some salty licorice, but theres not much else. At least I could wish for some hops to show. The thin body, at least quite thin, leaves flavors of salty licorice, followed by roasted malt. Not much bitterness, at least not hoppy bitterness. Theres some bitterness from the malts, but it sort of disappeares long before you are thinking of the finish. Well, even though its not a bad beer, it disappeared me. Theres just to much water and too little hops in it. Didnt have any problems finishing the bottle though. (070912)

500 ml bottle, courtesy of Cardinal pub, Stavanger. ABV is 4.5%. Very dark reddish brown colour, nearly black. Moderate to low tan head, no lacing. Very moderate roasty aroma with hints of bakery and seaweed. Flavour has a very moderate roastiness with some sourish and salty notes. Thin mouthfeel for a stout. Short aftertaste. Drinkable of course, but I expected so much more. By the way, oysters WITH stout I understand, but how the hell did someone think of putting oysters IN stout??? Yes, I know its a pre-war recipe, but that does not necessarily make a bad idea better.

500ml bottle bought from The Vineyard, Belfast...
Poured almost completely black... Creamy tan head poured quite thick and foamy then faded quickly to light ring...no lacing..
Aroma - Roasted malts, dark coffee, some smokiness, earthy, some liquorice notes, slight dustiness / cardboard notes, some pepperiness...
Taste Toasted malts, milky / creamy notes, chocolate, black coffee, some salty notes, blackberry hints, light spicy hop bitterness, some aniseed..
Feel -Very smooth and creamy... medium bodied... Very drinkable - a good session stout..
Overall - An excellent stout... definitely recommended...

This is perhaps the strangest stout i've ever tried! It is brewed with oysters to give a smoother taste. It sounds very peculiar, but it works!
Pours a very deep copper colour with a big bubbly tan head. This leaves little beads of lacing down the glass.
Aroma is of roasted hops, coffee, and fish esters. For some reason the fish esters do not feel out of place, and aresubtle enough to not be overpowering.
The taste is of roasted hops, freshly cut grass and the oyster taste is very apparent. Again, for some reason, the addition of oysters does not ruin the flavour, and adds a silky smooth feel to it that supresses the bitterness.
Mouthfeel is slightly chalky but otherwise silky smooth, and this beer drinks remarkably well. I was stunned that this beer succeeded.

No freshness date stamped. Opening this botle shows that this brew has hardly any carbon dioxide that results in no head at all and very dark brown beercollor almost black. Nose is very oxidated and shows a wooden nose aswell as roast and caramel. Taste is smooth and doesn't show any of the roast noticable in nose. Bit salty and very low bittered gives this brew a strange but after getting used plesant caramellic and dry taste. Mouthfeel also very pleasant, litle oily like and quiet enjoyed this beer though very strange and again very smooth.

Got this at De Bierkoning in Amsterdam.
Into a pint glass.
APPEARANCE: Pours a big three finger fluffy medium-thin looking off-white head that mounds way out of the glass. Color is dark brown and is clearer than most English stouts. Higher amounts of carbonation evident. Head fizzes down to a thick foam cap that remains the whole way down but leaves no lacing down the glass.
SMELL: Nose is moderately strong. Roasted malt and some sweet toffee up front. Traces of sweet milk chocolate and dark licorice. Not bad.
TASTE: Some roasted malt, sweet toffee and sweet milk chocolate as well. The oysters are there through the middle, which adds sweetness there, and it finishes with a touch of bitter coffee at the end. A short and mild roasted and sweet milk chocolate aftertaste brings up the rear. A pretty sweet stout, as an oyster stout should be, and pretty tasty for the style.
PALATE: Medium-thin body with higher end carbonation. A bit too light on the palate for a stout. Silky slick on the palate from the oysters, goes down smooth and finishes rather sticky on the palate. Needs to be a little thicker and heavier on the palate.
OVERALL: A good sweet oyster stout, but a bigger body would definitely help this one out. This style can get a little too sweet, especially by the end, but this one had a bit of bitterness to balance it out, which made it an enjoyable choice.

Dark mahogany color, with half finger of foam, dark.
In the smell, over the typical stout note, there are clearly something saltish, sea, oyster.
In the taste, too, saltish notes, fresh, and still the classic stout notes: chocolate, dry fruits. Pleasant.
Average body, even if in the mouth it seems more slippery.
Classic stout aftertaste, with coffee and malty, then again the saltish oyster.

BBE May 06, served cool in a jug.
A: dark reddish brown hue, with a thin layer of creamy tan head with o.k. retention.
S: dark and roasted malty base decorated with an interesting aroma of sour prunes and blackberries; lightly smokiness at the back, but overall the nose is pretty straight forwardly stout-ish with a twist of sour-fruitiness which is stronger than most other stouts I've tried.
T: a very smooth flow of dark malts upfront, followed by suggestion of delicate smoked prunes, licorice, sour-sweet hints of dried longan fruits, and delicate flavour of roasted barley with smoked wood-chips; the texture turns from smooth to slightly flat after the mid-flavour, leading towards a mildly dryish bitterness in the end.
M: the mouthfeel is pretty smooth throughout backed with an ideal fizzy condition; alas, I doubt if the real oysters added to this beer have made any other difference apart from lending a silky-smoothness to the light-bodied stout. Some stouts using real oysters I've tried are imparted with a delicate savoury-sweetness of shell-fish, but in this beer this character is at best negligible...
D: overall, not bad, but one would feel that something's missing in the glass... A light-weight stout.
