This mild has been reduced in strength to 5% ABV this year.It is Hardy&Hansons' seasonal brew for May each year , intended to coincide with the CAMRA Mild in May campaign. It is therefore widely available in the East Midlands during that month.
It's stronger than typical milds : it tends towards the stout and porter end of the spectrum and has more character and mouthfeel. It's a beautifully balanced brew (although I preferred the stronger version) with some of H&H house sweetness.
I was fortunate enough to drink it in superb condition in a variety of pubs .As far as I know it's only available in cask condition form though it may appear in bottles.at some time.

Tasted this beer this evening by half pint at the Penderel's Oak, a Wetherspoon's pub nr. Holborn and Chancery Lane UG stations, during JDW's May beerfestival.
Appearance: pours a dark-brownish colour and a light-brown beerhead.
Smell: plummy, dried longan-fruit (and slightly raisiny) sweet-fruitiness, with dark-chocolay tart sweetness as well.
Taste & Aftertaste: light toffeeish taste at first, followed by dried berries' tartness and a quite warm palate; left with smooth but dry bitter aftertaste in the throat.
Mouthfeel & Drinkability: a thin-bodied ale with an overall sligthly watery palate...with a tinge of tangy bitterness in the end. Not too bad for a "beer-starter" before drinking more flavoursome ales~~
