I went to Cambridge House with a few friends recently and we happened to be there during a dart tournament night so it was pretty full and loud. I like the layout - rear entry - statue of a horse as you stroll up the steps which is decorated with glass and mirrors like a mosaic. They have a pretty big deck and foyer where the bathrooms are located which is nice if you want to stop in and wash up before sitting down to a pint & meal.
The interior is pretty good sized with the brewhouse facing the road and bar next to it in a sort of rectangular shape.

There is a large room for dart playing and lots of bistro height tables and a small stage for musical performances. The only complaint is some of the seeting seems to be arranged tighly making it hard to get to your chair if you are seated directly behind someone at a neighboring table. I like the bright clean and well lit interior with chalkboard displaying the house selections and guest taps.

The service is friendly and prompt we did not wait long at all for drinks or our meals. The attentiveness was there too we didn't stay long, but were asked several times if we needed anything. I found the food to be very tasty and served in large portions. I had a cheesesteak which I paired with a Kolsch. The quality of the establishment is pretty high, they run a good operation which I learned in Ale Street News is a separate ownership from the other Cambridge House location. I recommend them as the beer selection is pretty good with some quality house beers and a few other choices on guest taps that weren't too shabby.

Perfect place to stop after picking up someone from Bradley Airport, just a few minutes away. I have had a couple of their bottled beers that were purchased from stores, but had never been to the brew pub itself. We went for lunch; on a nice day it would have been great to be on the deck but it was raining when we arrived. The beer selection was good, with seven choices offered; six were available. We tried the Copper Hill Kolsch, Abijah Rowe IPA and the CBH IPL. All three were delicious. Our meals were equally as tasty, and reasonably priced.
Now that I know how close this is to the airport I will definitely be visiting the Cambridge House again!

The brewpub has a varied selection of its own very solid beers on draft, and a couple of decent guest taps, plus PBR. The food was better than average brewpub fare. Went for a late weekday lunch, so it was quiet, but the beer chalkboard and stage promise a livelier vibe on the evenings/weekends.

Good food good beer. Unfortunately it didn't do anything to wow me. The home brews were good. The selection of other brews was ok. The atmosphere was hard to gauge. Lots of locals bar need to style for sure. Still a place to check out if you are in the area. At the very least you will get good food and beer. If you go in expecting to be blown away i think you will be disappointed. That said is is a family friendly establishment so for those with children that is a plus.

Somewhat massive clapboard-sided structure that has a bit of a residential look. Parking is around back and entry is by way of the deck. Bar room is on the left and has a large U-shaped bar that seats about 20 with a few tables along the perimeter. There is an additional dining room and outdoor seating on the deck. 10 beers on tap, 9 of theirs and 1 guest. The few I have tried have been solid examples of their style. Fast, friendly service. I only had the fried pickles, so it doesn't seem enough to make a discerning judgement of their food, although what I've seen and smelt seem very nice. The very laid pub vibe is inviting, and I'm sure I'll be back.

My GPS thinks this is on the other side of the street but we manage to find it anyhow. I stopped here last week for dinner while on vacation with the family. Maybe a half mile outside of town this unassuming building looks like a converted house from the outside. We arrived later for dinner to find a full parking lot, but luckily it was not a totally full restaurant and we were seated quickly. Loud boisterous seating area with a bar off to the right side of the building and tables off to the left and around the bar and on the deck. 5 house brews on tap and maybe the same number on guest tap make the selection decent enough. The food is standard pub fare and tasty enough, the service was attentive and at the ready. Loud local vibe adds to the ambiance, pricing in line with everything else on the trip. The beer was hit or miss, with one a huge mess. I might go back if I was in the area.

I used t go there and have lunch, almost every day, it was OK , nothing special.
But then after the owner told me they have gluten free pasta and bread, I decided to go there for dinner with my son, who can not have Dairy or wheat.
We asked if he could have gluten free pasta and grilled shrimp with olive oil and garlic. ( How easy is that to make).
After waiting a half an hour, here comes his gluten free pasta with non gluten free breaded shrimp. How dumb is that?
So, we send it back. I get him a salad until they remake his meal.
In the mean time I get my meal and have to wait another 45 minutes for his meal.
Long story made short.
He finally gets his meal and says it taste like butter is on the shrimp (NO DAIRY I SAID)
So now he is afraid to eat it.
Then they charged me for the whole meal. I called the owner over and finally he deducts my sons meal.
Tells us to come bake another time and he will make sure it does not happen again.
The next day we go back and order a really easy thing to make.
A hamburger on a gluten free bun. He says sorry no gluten free buns, after he told me the day before they had them. OK a hamburger NO BUN, a vegetable with NO BUTTER, an onion slice and lettuce, and french fries.
He gets a hamburger on a wheat bun, no lettuce no onion, no french fries.

They charge me for everything with all of there mistakes.
My son eats the hamburger with out the bun, but still has a allergic reaction because
some of the bun was probably still stuck to the hamburger. I should sue them.

This place is good for nothing. I would give it zero stars if I could.
They should just serve beer to the locals and nothing else.
Don't go there unless you want to be dissatisfied.

Food was great, beer was fantastic. Atmosphere was nothing special, though not unappealing. Service was among the worst I've ever had. Nobody at the entrance to greet us, so after a short wander we were told to find our own table. Our server was unfriendly, unpleasant, and either unwilling or unable to answer any of our questions. Maybe if you're a regular, it gets better. But based on this visit, I cannot imagine WANTING to be a regular

Overall, I would recommended stopping in here to sit at the bar and try the beer. The food, while excellent, is not worth dealing with such bad service.

Note: an email to the Brewer was sent, and we were given an apology and were told the server in question would be spoken to. While the initial experience was still unpleasant, this goes a long way. The fact that he responded personally, and quickly, really means a lot! Thanks, Scott

I came here while visiting the parents for Christmas. My mother and I went for an appetizer and a couple of beers on a Thursday afternoon around 5:00. We walked into a large room with a 4 sided bar in the center and tables surrounding it. There is also a dining area on one side of the bar. The atmosphere is very much nice rural pub.

I had the IPA and Pink Peppercorn Saison. Both were served in pint glasses. The Saison had little to no head and an off flavor to it. The IPA was quite nice. We had a pizza which was quite good. The server knew very little about the beers, but I've seen worse at brewpubs. I was hoping to try their RIS, but it was not on tap.

LOUD!!! They have done some "sound proofing" to dampen the volume - only partially successful. I used to enjoy this spot more when it first opened. (Except for the noise level)

The beers (or the important part) are average to slightly above average. One thing I will say, is that WHEN they have the PORTER or STOUT it is worth the trip. I try to go at least twice per year just to keep giving them a shot.

OK Bugers, OK wings. Live entertainment can be a plus.

Best time to go - after a good days fishing. Sit outside in Rural Granby, have one or two and then head out.

Cheers!

Bright, clean atmosphere with a variety of rooms and porch, etc. Although I was there on a night that was not very busy, it was a bit loud. I can imagine it gets quite loud at times - a lot of polished hardwood surfaces make for very bright accoustics.

Only three of their own beers were available when I was in - the IPA was quite tasty - a nice example of more of the English style. It is well worth checking out and I brought a growler home for $13. About 10 guest taps were available - ranging broadly from PBR to Oscar Blues Gordon.

The food selection and quality is outstanding. The wait staff, at both the bar and table were unusually friendly, knowledgeable and efficient - among the best I have experienced in a long time. Definitely worth a stop for lunch or dinner. With great beer to boot, I will be sure to stop by again when in the area.

I went here for the first time last week. There were approximately 10 beers on tap, half of which were Cambridge House beers and the other half were guest beers (Allagash, Brooklyn Double Chocolate, a BBC nitro, and others I can't recall. Their CH selection consisted of Smokey the Beer, Old Mill Pond, Copper Hill Kolsh, an IPA, a red, and (although out) the Pumpkin...

I enjoyed multiple Smokey the Beer, and the Old Mill Pond and a red. Very good. Also came home with a growler of Smokey the Beer for $16. No complaints!!!

Food: Ordered nachos which were awesome, piled high and well worth the value.

A little out of the way if you do not live out here. I took a scenic route to Hartford to visit, and during the day. A nice place, patio focussed, minimal bar in siz, it is a nice ash wood. Lucky to get a seat post-lunch. Loud regulars haveing a beer. Beers are average, product line is conventional. Worth a stop if in the area. Decent drinkability of the beers, this is a restaurant more than a brewpub. Was not excited at the guest stuff, the regular lineup is worthwhile to try. Noteable use of hops.

CBH has been a wonderful addition to Granby. When they first opened it was difficult to dine and talk in the bar area because of the noise. They've made improvements of adding acoustic tiles on the ceiling, which has helped. They also have seating outside on the deck for nice weather, a room with dartboards off the side of the bar and an area upstairs for a bit more formal atmosphere
The beer is always high quality and tasty. Their tap selection has improved since new ownership and changes frequently. They also offer quite a few guest brews although we rarely take advantage of those.
The staff are very attentive and friendly.
Thursday night is open mike night and draws a good crowd as well as some very talented musicians. There is live music on Friday and Saturdays as well.
The menu is a good variety of pub favorites as well a dinner entrees, salads, sandwiches, apps. They've been offering specials that have been tasty. Tuesday is wing night. Big wings with a choice of flavors and only 50 cents apiece! Plus you get a dollar off CBH beers. Thursday is prime rib special, a favorite of my husband's.
The place has greatly improved in many ways since it was taken over by Scott. We find that we are visiting much more frequently and are happily finally members of their Mug Club.
If you're in the area it's definitely a place to go to!

I'm pretty lucky since there are actually 2 good places within 5 minutes of my house here in Granby. The Cambridge House has a slight advantage because the brew their own beers and they do a pretty darn good job of it.

Their Kolsch is an award winner and for good reason... Its just a darn pleasant beer. Easy for the "bud lite" crowd to adjust to. I usually lean to their brews with a little higher octane... They haven't disappointed me there yet. And if that isn't enough they have a nice selection of "guest brews" on tap. Did I mention a full bar? The bartenders are EXCELLENT...they know the beers and they also know how to put together some good mixed drinks.

The food is pretty good and has improved over the years since they first opened. Tuesday is Wings night (CBH pints are just a buck) and Thurday is Prime Rib. Fresh beer and fresh beef... I'm good! I guess my biggest food criticism would be that the menu doesn't change much. There are TONS of wait staff around. If you can't see yours you can easily flag down somebody.

My biggest complaint about CBH is the noise level... Sometimes its hard to carry on a conversation. They've made some effort to put some sound dampening on the walls and ceiling but there is still a LOT of surface area to echo off of. The live music they book is outstanding for such a small place. All in all if yer gonna be stuck in central Connecticut and don't know what to do with yerself... CBH ain't a bad place to sit and meet the locals.... We're pretty friendly.

They service is great. The wait staff is friendly and the bartender are attentive. The brewer comes out a lot and socializes which is awesome. The usually have thier kolsch and ipa on tap as well as some unique ones they try and some solid guest brews. Food is pretty damn good for pub fare. My favorite is the habanero burger. I went here with a large group recently. I must start by saying that the inside is better than I expected after pulling up. Its a fairly nondescript exterior and we actually missed it on the way headed south and had to turn around. The inside has a decent atmosphere. The dining area is smaller than the bar area and the bar area has televisions for sporting events or whatever else I assume. The quality of the beers made on site was very good. Nothing that I wouldn't drink again. The selection was somewhat limited, but they had some guest beers on tap so that you could have plenty of options. The food was all very much edible and everyone in our party of 12 enjoyed their meals. As for the service, that is where the place really stood out. Everyone was extremely friendly. Our server was terrific. There was a gentleman that was either the owner or manager (I could have asked, but didn't) who was very friendly and answering questions. The brewmaster, Adam, actually sat down with our group and discussed the beers. We were given some samples of their new alt beer that wasn't being sold yet, and we were just generally made to feel at home. Wonderful experience. This place is worth a visit. Prices were very much in line with any other similar establishment in the region in my opinion.

This place is just a few minutes from my house and never got off my ass to go till now, glad I did!
Very modern pub feel. Top nothch interior. New building gives it a very hip fealing. Lights dimed a bit to give the ugly girls a chance, but that's cool. Really nice outdoor deck which makes it a must return in the summer.
Quality of both food and brews were great. Can't beat a craft brew that was made less than 25 feet away from you. Food was very enjoyable and most meals paired well with brew offerings.
Service was really good as I find it very hard to get really good service around this area. I'm not a pain in the ass I just don't want to ask for things twice. Not the case here. Wait staff was on there game.
Brew selection suffered a bit. As with most smaller brewpubs I've been to, they all seem to have a problem keeping up with all beers being available. The waitress was cool though, she gave me a card for a free pint to lure me in again which I will gladly take her up on!
The food was surprisingly great. The Chedder soup is a must have. Feel the arteries clog!!
Chicken was cooked to perfection, nice and juicy and the steak sandwich had really good cuts of meat, no lips or asshole portions. (Always a plus)
Good value here too. Two beers each, an app, and 2 dinners all for around 50 bucks. Not bad at all!

It is easy to miss the Cambridge House at night, their sign is not really obvious while driving by. Entrance is in back, there is a ton of parking even though it was packed on Saturday night. Very loud band. Noisy with plain walls and hardwood floors. Came for a beer and dessert only. Clifford the Big Red Ale is excellent but we have the American hangup here of serving a higher ABV in a small $5, 10oz glass. Its okay to serve a normal 40% hard liqour but a 9.5% beer you better slow down the drinker. We split (too much for one person anyway) the excellent apple cobbler, with ice cream it is $5.99.

My brother and I visited the Cambridge House a couple of weeks ago for about the 5th time, but I have never reviewed it. We went on a Friday about 6pm and it was fairly crowded. I would recommend reservations, which we had. The atmosphere was really good, they had a band playing some James Taylor and Jimmy Buffett. The food was good, but pretty pricey. I paid 13.99 for a fairly small portion of Fish n Chips which looked and tasted great, but the portion didn't fill me. I had the sampler of 6 - 4oz. beers which was overall pretty good. I really enjoyed the IPA and Pilsner, but found there attempt at a high alchohol scottish and a stong ale to be weak. I would recommend going on a Sunday when you can get a brick oven pizza and a pint for 10 bucks.

Stopped in on my way home to Boston after a trip to Hartford. Heard lots of good things about this place and decided to check it out.

This place as a homey feel to it - very comfy in the bar area. Lots of hi-def TV's to catch sports. Menu selection is typical pub fare - sandwiches, grilled pizzas, apps, etc. Ordered the pizza which ended up being OK, but nothing to write home about. Service was pretty friendly and attentive.

The beers are phenomenal! Started with a pint of the IPA, and I can see why this brew has won so many awards...one of the best east coast IPA's I've ever had! Great aroma, fresh taste. I could have had several of them, but I had a 2 hour drive in front of me and wanted to try a different brew. Had the ESB next, which was equally impressive.

I was so impressed with the beers I was interested in bringing a few growlers home; however, they were out of them (I noticed the same issue in other reviews).

Will definitely be visiting the Cambridge House again the next time I am in Hartford area.

This was stop #249 on my quest to visit every quality brewery in North America.

I was visiting a friend of mine who lives north of Hartford so when he picked me up from the airport, The Cambridge House was an easy stop on the way home. We did the 5 beer sampler of all 4 of the house beers plus a guest tap IPA since they were out of theirs. They had a kolsch, ESB, Red, and one other. I'm not a huge kolsch fan but theirs was pretty good. Our next order was a full pint of the red. Too bad the IPA was out. The bartender told me it was very popular. I liked the fact that they had a small number of good guest taps. It's worth the trip if you're within range and want to support the good beer movement.

The bartender told us the place was owned by a couple of guys with insurance industry backgrounds (not unusual for this part of the state). They wanted do "do it right" so they went out and found brewing people to run the brewing side of the house. The brewmaster also works at Red Hook.

The service was good, we had a new waiter but he was being helped by another waiter and both did a great job.
The beer was great! We started with the sampler and enjoyed all their beers, my wife and both chose the Kolsch for our "pint and a pizza" for 10$. This deal is only on sudays and their pizza is kinds small so we both got the pint and a pizza and we had just a few slices left over.
I wish they had more of their own beers to offer but what they had was great.
Very nice place, looking forward to returning

I arrived here on a Tuesday evening around 8 pm for dinner with a friend. We walked around back to go in the main entrance and were greeted with a packed house. After waiting about 5 minutes we were shown to a table near the bar.

Cambridge house was serving four of its own brews as well as a few others such as Farmington River. Between my friend and I we sampled each of the four brews they offered. We started with their award-winning Kolsch. Excellent. We followed with the IPA (me) and the ESB (my friend) and I finished with the stout (also excellent).

As for the food, they were out of onion rings, so I suspect they are quite good. Garlic bread was awesome. I recommend you do NOT order the $5 tortillas and salsa. It's clearly bagged chipps and jarred salsa and not worth the five bucks. The food was a little on the expensive side but most of it was pretty good. They do charge a fee if you make any substitutions (my friend wanted fries instead of veggies with his steak). The french fries WERE great!

The service was good but not exceptional, even when the crowd thinned out a little. The waitress was friendly and accomodating, though.

The atmosphere is more "bar-like" and less "restaurant-like". The back room was set up for a dart tournament and therefore couldn't be used for eating, which may have contributed to its crowded feeling.

If not for the beer, it wouldn't be an exceptional place, but of course, doesn't good beer make everything worth it?!

This was my first trip to The Cambridge House, and was quite pleased with the visit. We were seated in the bar area which was a very nice area with a huge U shaped bar in the middle. We got there at a time in the afternoon when it wasn't too busy.

Not the biggest beer line-up but everything was pretty solid. Tried the big hoppy first, their organic Imperial IPA. A citrusy, smooth monster that was quite drinkable. Also sampled the Octoberfest and IPA, both were damn good brews. Noticed about a half dozen guest taps as well, but I didn't go all the way to Granby for guest beers.

Service was quick and efficient. Our server also seemed quite knowlegeable about beer, which is a plus. A very friendly helpful staff.

The food was also quite delicious. I ordered the Stout Beef Skewers, which were excellent, and the sausage sandwich. My girlfriend ordered the clam chowder, she said was a bit thin but still very good, and the pulled pork sandwich that she said was the best she's had. Everything on the menu looked like a winner.
Prices were also quite reasonable. I would definitely visit again, just wish it wasn't so far away. My only complaint is they don't sell growlers of Big Hoppy.

The beer selection featured options like the Cambridge House IPA (which was stellar), Kolsch (a beauty of a summertime treat), Hefeweizen, Honey Blonde (a Tookey fave), ESB and Three Steve Stout. I also noticed some guest taps which appeared to be mainly New England based breweries - which I love to see.

Service was great. Very attentive, friendly, responsive and quick. Our waitress had it - the Maker's Mark shot & prompt delivery was much appreciated. We had multiple rounds here and that secured an afternoon of some fun. Atmosphere is comfortable and relaxing with great music to enhance the scene.

The Cambridge House is certainly worth checking out for sure and a destination in CT. I left very, very pleased.
