Has dating tabs, but they are not notched... so I have no idea if I am meeting the end-date requirements... But there is a slight notch next to the “L” on the side, if that means anything to anyone... (not me!)
Chestnut and clear. Eggshell colored froth shot down quickly leaving only a dusting and tons of lacing. No aroma really, just some maltiness floating up... just very clean. Great feel, smooth and silky, the carbonation is barely noticeable but there. It just glides around your mouth. Medium bodied. Roasted malt and caramelly sweetness. Nice dark toastyness, leaves a lot of flavor on your tongue. Good flavor and feel, very drinkable.

Appearance – This one is light brown in color with an orangish tinge and a giant, full, sticky head.

Smell – This one has a big bouquet. The molasses and caramel are huge and nearly drown out the malt. There’s also a big hop balance here.

Taste – The big, toasted malts come out more at the taste. The caramel and toffee notes are big as well. I can also pick up some biscuity flavors along with some stiff, grassy hops.

Mouthfeel – This is really big for a Bock. It’s larger than medium-bodied for sure with a big, chewy mouthfeel and some noticeable dryness.

Drinkability – This was a fun drinker but it felt way over-the-top and out of character for the style.

A: A medium copper with exceptional clarity and a persistent off-white head.

S: This has a moderate malty aroma with a crusty bread, melanoidins and a light toasted noted. There are no hops present nor diacetyl, just a clean lager fermentation.

T: The flavor is right to style with a rich, complex malt flavors of crusty bread and toast with a light caramel note. There is just enough hop bitterness to balance the malt flavors but it still leans towards the sweet side with a malt sweetness that continues into the finish. It's still a well attenuated beer. No hops.

M: Medium-full bodied with a moderatly low carbonation and just a touch of warming.

O: This beer is a malt forward beer with a little sweetness but an overall good balance.

Pours a clear, copper red amber with a small tan head that recedes into a film after about a minute. Minimal sheets of lace are left on the glass.
Aroma begins with a strong, caramel malt presence that is quickly subdued by an unpleasant, Euroskunk hoppiness that I would characterize as sulfuric, mildewed hay.
Mouthfeel is medium to full bodied, and is very creamy. There is a Euroskunk hop twang on the tongue.
Taste reveals a caramel/toffee malt dominance that recedes into a herbal, almost medicinal hops presence. There is an unpleasant, bitter, sulfuric, hops twang in the middle, that fades as the brew warms. Finish is dry and slightly bitter.
I have mixed feelings about this one. It's unlike any bock I've ever had, and the Euroskunk element that is here and there, is not something I care for. I suppose, overall, it has substantial complexities that make it worth trying again. I would have preferred a more substantial malt character that would have more successfully dominated the Euroskunk hops.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle.
Weak head, doesn't last.
Semi-sweet initial taste to a hoppy finish. Nice medium amber color. taste the alcohol a little... its a clean taste, "pilsner" smell, "wet". biscuits?

It was ok. not overly impressed. not worth the extra money of buying this import.

Quite a herbal nose, mixed in with a bit of a dark malt character ( bit of chocolate, bit of roastiness). Quite a sticky malt start, syruppy texure and a bitter herbal flavour, not as good as the Urbock Hell i think, i think the paler malts worked better.

I have to say that this bottle, by and far, is my most favorite. The fat 'n' short base paired with a long neck proves to be most entertaining and amiable. Along with the rudimentary crest colors and logo...I like

A: vivacious bubbly body with a somewhat dense and creamy soft yellow cap with foamy qualities. A good slabs of of sticky lace at the upper rim of the glass. The body houses a unique, golden-yellow edged, roasted chestnut color with hints of brown and red

S: hefty caramel and malts with a few metallic skunk whiffs. Has a smell of cinnamon and nut after while

T: flavors of caramel, malts, and roasted tastes are rather great. Soft buttered bread-toast flavor in the mix as well sprinkled with finely ground cinnamon 'n' sugar. After a while the sweeter flavors lead me to think more of a toffee nutty vibe with roasted grains. A new taste has emerged with maybe elements of grass and figs in the mix...tasty
This beer has a very "delicate power" to it

M: glassy and slick describes this brew best. Sometimes a bit sticky but never overpowering and easy to drink. Even for the alcohol content, not a smidgen of it is showing. A well rounded brew

D: good bottle that houses a pretty darn solid Bock beer, try it if you get the chance. This one hit me very well

The progenitor of all bock styles I believe - a beer that is in most cases, probably older than the family line of the person drinking it!

Poured from a 330mL green-glass bottle into my Ayinger Celebrator doppelbock glass.

Copper-tinged deep carrot orange, brilliantly clear with a finger of lasting off-white foam. Soapy slow moving lacing and superior retention.

Rich German and pale malt with a deep faintly sour/grainy lager note in the nose.

Malty quite bready palate entry with a light almost fruity hop bitterness that just barely offsets the toasty, lightly carmelized sweetness of the beer. Complex maltiness, and yet fairly straight-forward. Maybe lacking some melanoidin richness, but this is still praise-worthy, especially when rated to style...

Medium-light bodied, well carbonated, and full flavored.

A historic lager - and while the descendents of traditional bock are superior in many ways, this is still well worth sampling - an excellent unobtrusive beer, perfect with a variety of German foods.

D - Deep amber-honey and perfectly clear with a big fluffy white head that stands at about 2 fingers. Big ole' sheets of fluffy lace coat the glass, and head retention is outstanding. Good lookin' stuff!

S - I could smell the pilsener-esque saaz aroma coming off this one as soon as I popped it. Up close, this still reeks of a good German pils, but with a heartier malt component. I usually think of German pilseners as having a saltine cracker malt component ... this is more like toasted bran cracker. There is a pleasant caramelized sugar note there too. Nice!

T - Sweet clove honey, brown sugar, Honeycomb cereal, and nutmeg livened up with a spritz of lemon and a nice saaz spiciness.

M - Medium bodied with some sugary dextriny residual coating, this is smooth, mellow, slick, and off-dry on the finish.

D - Good stuff! Definitely one of the best of a style that I normally find boring and mundane. This is top notch beer!

Had this on tap at the Bavarian Lodge. The menu states that Einbecker originated the Bock style but I think others have done this better (anyone remember Leinie's Bock from the 80s?) The beer seemed bright for the style and had some harshness - there was little of the caramel overtone that you have in most Bocks. This beer scored better than average only because I like Bocks...

Pours with a beautiful just off-white rocky head, topping light brown/amber liquid. Nose is of sweet malt, natch. Very appetizing too I might add. Taste is superb, lightly sweet malt followed by an almost dominating hop bitterness. Hops win out in the finish, with the maltiness of the grain creating an interesting interplay on the palate. This is one of the classics here, boys! The not-so-heaviness makes this beer very easy to drink plenty of. The original Bockbier, try it if you see it. Well worth the $8 I paid for a sixer. Tastes all the much better out of the "official" Einbecker Ur-Bock glass, to boot!

This is probably my first simple bock; pours an amber color with nice clarity and a beautiful beige head that retains well. The aroma is striking and (seemingly) authentic with notes molasses, hay, herbs, toasted bread and some slight floral hops. The flavor is also intensely malty with notes of toasted bread, molasses, herbs, mineraly hops and alcohol. The mouthfeel is full and creamy, and drinkability is limited by alcohol and the mineraly bitterness. A descent bock, but the alcohol and bitterness limit the enjoyability of this beer.

Pours caramel/orange with 4+ fingers of sand colored head. Great lacing & pretty good head retention

S: Some malt sweetness & a hint of cornyness

MF: Caramel, some grainyness,& a hint of smokeyness up front. As this warms a little brown sugar & some card board. Finishes dry with caramel & more than a little earthy hops

Medium bodied with a little carbonation

Drinks allright, but just a so-so bock. Good to try for a tip of the hat to the home of bockbier, supposedly. This brewery's product never impressed me in germany either

Clear amber hue, coppery highlights, it is a very lovely color, the off-white head reached a half finger in size, and it quickly faded to a soapy residue. No lace was produced. The nose is unimpressive, sweet maltiness, strong influences of grassiness, sulfur, oddly Euro-lager in nature. Frankly, the bouquet repulses me. The palate is malty sweet, hints of caramel, grassy in the middle, which I didn’t care for, the finish is pleasantly hoppy-bitter, a saving grace IMO. I’m not trilled by the huskiness or the slight nuttiness in the taste. The aftertaste is long with tacky sweetness and faint hops bitterness. I don’t know what to make of this beer, it is dissimilar to any Bock I’ve had. The alcohol is not noticeable on the palate, a nice accomplishment, but it does warm the belly. Medium in body, a touch light, the carbonation is very modest and the mouthfeel is slightly slick. More malt would work nicely, oh well. I paid $3.00 for a 11.2 ounce green bottle in Omaha, honestly this would not be worth drinking if it was free. The nose ruins any favorable impression of this beer; I do like the hoppiness of the palate but little else. Not my cup of Bock, maybe it will work for you but I can’t recommend it.

Received in the beer of the month club and was excited most of all to try this one out. The newsletter suggested to try with pasta and tomato sauce. I enjoyed the combination fully--also a nice balance of caramel and chocolate. Appeared with a nice head and lacing. Surprised to see this shipped to North Carolina although our Pop the Cap laws haven't passed yet.

Pours a transparent copper with medium white head which leaves a layer of foam and somewhat clingy lacing. Sweet, soapy caramel and roasted malt aroma (not particularly appetizing for me due to the overwhelming sweet soapiness). Sweet caramel initial flavor which builds into coarse cereals & toasted malts and finishes with slightly drying hops and somewhat metallic after-taste. Chewy and creamy body with strong carbonation.

Holy crystal malt batman! This is one sweet brew. That's not a bad thing, but wow. I haven't had a beer this sweet since allagash four.
However, the mouthfeel was thick enough to really balance out the sweetness. It was a nice, dark, sweet beer. Filled with delicious elements of malt, this was a celebration of MALT!
I dug it, but this isn't a beer for everybody.

Poured from a 11.2 oz. Bottle into a glass mug. The brown liquid has rich caramel hues, Ruby highlights and irrupts with loud rising bubbles. The head is tan and tall with large and small bubbles. It fades into a thin covering of lace.

Smell is strong of deep roaster, caramelized malt.

Taste is very striking of browned caramel and hints of coco. Very smooth and slightly sweet. Oh this is very good with a nice hopy bite to cover the slight alcohol finish. Yup these guys know what they are doing, as they should.

Mouthfeel is creamy, not to much fizz but a nice bite on the finish.

Drinkability is high if you like the biter finish.

Solid dunkel bock with a mahogany color and roasted qualities.. Alcohol is prevalent at the final sip of the glass as the head is creamy and the mouthfeel velvety.. this dunkel is wel known and well made a bit skunky at first.. must be those green bottle.. but it does subside after a few minutes.

On tap at Biermuseum in Köln.

Poured into a 50cL mug, the Ur-Bock is a nice dark amber with a decent tan/white head that lasts.

Smelling it, candied sugar dominates everything. Slight maltiness as well. This carries over to the taste, with the addition of slight smoky hints.

Decent, thick mouthfeel is a plus, but overall, this is just too sweet to be very drinkable.

A: Rusty copper color with 1.5 fingers of light tan head that stays frothy.

S: Banana, cloves, bread malts, and pleasant yeastiness.

T: Sweet caramel, overripe banana, cloves, ginger, and pepper.

M: Medium body that is somewhat creamy.

O: Spices override all other flavors.
