On tap at the Porterhouse, Parliament St.

Chestnut with a steady creamy film that sheets. Caramel, apple, nut and a bit of grass on the nose.
Nut loaf and cranberry bread with a mil chocolate hit and autumn leaf to end.
Stale Red Hots finish and lingering roasty sweet and sour. Creamy, round, verging on medium.

Labeled as "Dunkel".

Pale and fruity for a Schwartz - more properly called a Dunkel. Light, smooth, lots of Vienna. Just enough going on, but drinkable over challenging.

Pours not quite as dark as I expected into my tall lager glass. A beige head rises, but falls back pretty quickly.

Smell is lightly toasty grain with some sweet carmel notes.

Taste is a nice blend of toasted malt, sweet carmel, a touch of dark raisiny fruit, and just a suggestion of hops. Everything is subdued... nothing over-the-top... nicely balanced.

Very smooth, medium body, moderate carbonation. This goes down very easily!

Very drinkable!

A: poured into a Pokal to a deep brown with a small off white head that retains well with a little lacing
S: smells of toasted malt and caramel
T: tastes of caramel, toasted malt, a little dark fruit, some hop bitterness. swallow is bready malt with some more caramel sweetness
M: on the lighter side but not watery with good carbonation and a refreshing finish
O: Very impressive with a lot of complexity and flavor without being a heavy hitting beer. Definitely a pleasure to drink.

Poured a deep amber hue with a one finger foamy tan head. There was good retention and lacing.

The smell was 100% pumpernickel bread. Nice toasted grain element as well.

The taste was also reminiscent of pumpernickle bread. An excellent grain flavor with hints of roasted coffee and nuttiness. A very very mild caramel sweetness.

The mouthfeel was clean with a dry finish.

Overall a very nice and quaffable schwarzbier. I am convinced that this is perhaps the most underated beer style.

Pours a deep, almost black, copper color (in fact, the copper color really only comes through in the highlights). A rich, rocky head that leaves a creamy, sprawling lace. The aroma is mostly malty but with some roasty tones as well. The flavor includes brown sugar, caramel, mellow coffee, and smooth chocolate. Hop bitterness is in the background there, and balances to a limited extent. Mouthfeel is smooth and carbonation is moderately active.

A good beer from a brewery that has consistently managed to make superb German lagers. A tasty and drinkable beer with a great roasty, malty flavor. Highly recommended!

Mahagony in color and only slightly transparent with a light tan head. Very interesting and complex nose. Pretty well rounded with a medium body. Caramel contributes to the generally sweet taste of the beer. Light bitterness in the finish.

This is a really nice Schwarzbier, nice and caramelly and refreshing. The beer pours a nice mahogany brown, very clear, with a decent tan creamy head. Retention is okay, not much lace. The nose on the beer is quite complex. There are nice roasted malts, there is some toffee and caramel, a little mustiness, a little grassiness, some raisin or other heavy fruit is just lurking underneath.

The taste is quite clean, some roasted caramel malts, a tiny bit of hop to balance out the deep roasts, there is a touch of some chocolate in the beer. There might be a slightly nutty slightly fruity quality in there underneath. The beer is just right in its consistency, not too creamy, not too prickly. The toffee and caramel flavors are quite nice. This is a fairly light bodied beer once it settles in, easy to drink, very enjoyable. L'Chaim.

The beer is a deep umber brown, approaching black, topped with a thick ivory head. Great head retention, with lots of blobby lace. Tons of carbonation bubbles rapidly floating up.
Aroma is mostly a sweet roasty malt, with a bit of caramel. Very clean. Mild noble hops, with a bit of fig aroma to the malt.
The flavor starts with a rich, sweet dark maltiness. Mild roasted malt, although not bittersweet, with a bit of caramel. Some pruney flavor with the roastiness, with some mild herbal noble hops entering in the finish. Extremely clean, with no off flavors at all. Light bodied, with smooth, yet lively german carbonation.
An excellent dunkel. I've never tried anything by this brewery, so it was a pleasant surprise. Very clean flavors, with an excellent smooth malt profile.

I really like this one, aside from the name not quite being true. This one pours to a dark amber brown color with a thick foamy head about 1/3 of an inch. Aroma is of coffee and chocolate. And it has a sweet character. There is a bit of barley, malt character. It has a smooth clean finish.
