“Ready for May?” In spring, the Einbecker brew-masters brew a particular special beer, the Einbecker Mai-Ur-Bock. This pleasantly-bitter refreshment is only available in the spring – as long as supplies last.

appearance; clear amber with a beige head. Very light with the carbonation bubbles.

smell; very grassy and hay-like malts. Slight odor of dried dog food(I mean that in a good way). Some fruity alcohol aromas with the smallest bit of hop spice.

taste; semi-sweet malts that taper into a bitter finish, more so than other Bocks and what I expect from a Maibock. Alcohol burn is mild. Some hops in there but they're quite gentle. Well balanced to the extent that the taste is difficult to describe.

mouthfeel; the alcohol stings the tongue but the body is loose, yet full. This one also puckers the mouth a bit but not in a sour or tart way.

drinkability; the alcohol could be better hidden but still a nice drink for a session. Goes down quite smooth and crisp.

That's a rare 5-pointer when it comes to German beers in my not so humble opinion.

Einbecker is a solid brewery creating magic brews. Many/most other German breweries are fairly mediocre, unfortunately.

A rich yet translucent copper color, a pleasant honeyish aroma, not a long lasting head (a good thing in this case), very drinkable, smooth and mild body wise, and a feast for taste buds. With its 6.5% ABV it's not a chugger, but you don't have to pace yourself either.

Solid.

From a bottle. Clear amber color with a thin layer of head. Floral hop aroma, a little skunky. Light body. Light malt and grassy hops. Might be a bit old.

330ml long neck bottle into a pint glass. Coding if taken literally is 4012017. Highly doubt this beer is 6 years old.

Crystal clear pale amber body with a reddish tint. Full white head wastes away to nothing. Aroma is sweet caramel. Taste is very sweet. Nothing else comes through. The abv is well hidden.

Einbecker Mai-Ur-Bock

Einbecker Brauhaus Bock-Hell / Maibock / Lent....

Einbecker Germany is our (Keene NH) Sister city. There's a long history of support. I'm a huge fan of the rather rare (now) May Bock Meibock style. Hefty malt base, charred caramel, and green, spicy herbs makes it interesting. Sour bready sugar funk.

Having this beer on tap at the Sacsenheim. Served in a zeidel glass, this beer draws a clear, medium amber/copper color with some streams of little bubble’s fairly rapidly rising to the beers surface. Has a nice, white head That’s about hang an inch thick when first drawn and served. Head settles to a medium sized ring lining the inside of the glass. Not much lacing at all here. Aromas of somewhat toasted, bready, caramel malt sweetness along with some toffee. The taste is very similar, with some somewhat toasted bread he mulch with toffee and caramel sweetness that is followed by a hint of honey. Flavor profile is rounded out with a bit of earthy hops that provide a slight amount of bitterness. The flavor profile is certainly dominated by the sweetness, but becomes more balanced and integrated as the beer sits and warms up a bit. Has a crisp, also smooth, medium to full bodied mouthfeel with moderate carbonation. Has a clean finish, and the flavors all linger around my palate for awhile nicely for the after taste.

This is a beer I will buy again. Picked it up at our local, new Total Wine. Poured from a bottle into a tulip glass. A beautiful golden yellow color with excellent fluffy white head and good curtain lacing. Nutty, bready, slightly sweet smell and taste. Bit of a fruity finish. Very nice beer.

Bottle Date Code: L 40811008 J
Glassware: Pokal
Temp at Pour: 58.5 F

Look:
Clear bright copper with plenty of bubbles rising from the bottom of the glass. Off-white head that starts at 1 finger and quickly dissipates to a thin but consistent and creamy cover. OK lacing.

Smell:
Lightly toasted bread and grains. Bread crust. Noticeable grassy note.

Taste:
Toasted bread with dark honey. Grassy and floral hops provide a mild but consistent bitterness that does not bite hard nor overpower but provides a balance. Some earthiness can be found in the finish.

Feel:
Smooth and ever-so-slightly sticky. Body is medium.

Overall:
A simple and straightforward Maibock that is easy to drink and quite quaffable. The beer reminds me of an amped-up Vienna Lager. It is similar to but not quite the same as Einbecker's Ur Bock Dunkel. The difference between the 2 is about the difference between a Vienna Lager and a Marzen.

Definitely recommended to those who like Bocks, Vienna Lagers, and Marzens.

Green Bottle

A: Pours a clear amber/caramel color. Two fingers of fizzy white head. Extreme amount of carbonation. Little retention with pretty much no lacing.

S: Malty. Butter. Toffee. Metallic. Has a sharp distinct aroma.

T/M: Buttery taste. Smooth. Slight hop bitterness. Carbonation tingle. Caramel and burnt coffee.

O: Not a style I'm too familiar with. Nice flavors of malty/grains. Crisp yet has a good smooth feel. Easy to drink.

L: Pours a deep gold to pale amber with excellent clarity. The pour results in two fingers of fine white head that recedes to a 4mm cap. As the beer goes down it leaves a light lacing on the glass.

S: Honey bread crust, some toasty malt notes, herbal notes, and just a touch of skunk. As the beer warms I also get some nice floral notes.

T: Noble hop notes of grass and peppery spice, a bit of ethanol, light notes of toasted caramel malt, a medium to medium-light bitterness rides through the whole palate, doughy bread notes and a sweet malt character (think liquid bread) on the backend and finish complemented by an earthy bitterness on the finish. Not getting any skunk on the palate initially, but after the beer has warmed in the glass for 20 minutes a bit of skunk character comes out on the backend and finish though this is not enough to ruin the beer for me.

F: Medium-full body with medium-high carbonation. It has a nice smooth mouthfeel that dries out on the finish.

O: Very good representation of the style, though I would like to have been able to sample this one a bit fresher.

Pours a brassy gold with a thin short lived head.
The smell is of beautiful German malts and hops.
Definitely more hops than in most German Mai Bocks, but in a good way.
It reminds me of a beefed up Vienna Lager.
The taste is wonderfully malty with the correct balance of hops to compliment.
I could drink this all day.
I wish it wasn't a seasonal.
Highly recommended to the Bock lover.
