Having this beer on tap at the Sachsenheim. Served in a stein mug, this beer draws a clear, dark amber color with a nice white head that’s about an inch thick when first drawn and served. Head eventually settles to a medium size ring lining the inside of the glass at the beers surface along with an excellent film layer surface foam and some pretty good lacing. Aromas of some toasted, bready, caramel malts along with a bit of chocolate and some dark fruit notes of fig and plum. A very similar flavor profile, with toasted, bready, caramel sweetness, a nice Hint of chocolate, and the aforementioned fig and plum fruit notes that give away to the subtle hint of molasses. Just a hint of some floral hops that provide just a slight touch of hop bitterness on the back end of my palate. If I wasn’t looking for it though, there’s a good chance I would’ve missed it. Has a crisp, also smooth, somewhat frothy, medium bodied mouth feel with moderate carbonation. Has a clean finish, and all of the flavors linger very nicely on my palate in the aftertaste. Quite a nice representation of the style of beer, and it is certainly worth a try for sure.

On tap at Prost in Washington DC. Copper in color with a long lasting fluffy white head. Classic dopplebock flavoring. True to style. Medium heavy body with a German hop but slightly sweet finish. A great bar beer especially for the winter.

I had this on draft 12/29/23 @ Laschet's Inn.

See-through purple/brown appearance.

Big khaki head; frothy lacing remained.

Raspberry & mild caramel notes in the nose.

Medium thick, sticky mouthfeel.

Caramel, mild raspberry & cream soda flavors; booze heat emerged as this warmed.

Too sweet for me; drinkable, but not one I'll seek out again.

11.2 ounce bottle, thanks to Brutaltruth for this one! Served in a dimpled mug, the beer pours a somewhat clear copper color with about an inch and a half light tan head that stuck around a while. Decent amount of lacing. I like the aroma, the brew smells like dark fruit, caramel, toasted malt and herbal/earthy hops. Taste is similar to the aroma, but with the addition of some dark bread and brown sugar flavors. Mostly malty tasting but with some earthiness in the finish. Mouthfeel/body is medium, it's a bit coating and syrupy with a moderate amount of carbonation. I thought this was a good overall brew, certainly worth trying if you get the chance!

Time for a Bier out in The 'Zebo, after raking up some of last years leaves.... From a 0.33l bottle at a cost of $2.90...

Quaffing out of small sniftah.... it's a rich, clear, deep chestnut color. Has a creamy, fine, light beige head which maintains a thin cover on the liquid. Has steady, fine carbo within, with light lacing. Aroma is malty and heavy on fresh brown bread, caramel and brown sugar. Body is a decent medium, with a fairly smooth feel.

Taste has more malty character, though it's not as sweet as the nose suggests. More caramel, brown sugar and brown bread notes are mixed together, with some subtle, floral hop action in the finish. Pretty good, though I wish it had more sweetness. Prosit!!

Poured from the undated 11.2 oz bottle into the test glass.
A - Dark copper color, excellent clarity, lazy carbonation works toard the surface.
S - Malt forward, with an earthy hop thread, some light brown sugar, warm pumpernickle rising
T - That warm dark bread again, earthy hops as well, follws the aromatics with little deviation
M - Lovely on the palate, smooth, silky witout being slick
O - A very nice dopplebock, with great texture.

Clear, dark copper body; light khaki head, dense and semi-creamy. Malt-like nose with some noble hop aroma. Excellent malt flavor; caramel; some esters noted; mild to moderate hop bitterness. Medium-heavy body; smooth with a gentle warmth.

A nice, solid doppelbock.

From the bottle in a snifter. This solid little doppel pours a nice
ruby tinged mahogany that has a nice head of off white foam that settles
to a thick ring, thin dusty layer, and shows some faint lacing. Nose of
toasted malts, dark bread akin to pumpernickel. Flavors give me what I
crave from this fine brewery. Dark breaded malts, subtle herbal hops,
toasted malts, brown sugars, hints of dark dried fruits of cherry and
cranberry. Nice mouth feel; medium body, medium light carbonation,
smooth, lightly warming, and finishing sweet and faintly dry.

Overall----solid!

Cheers

Had on tap. Dark brown with lighter edges, beige head. Toast, raisin, caramel malts, and brown bread aromas. Taste is much the same, maybe some prune in there, but pretty standard but basic. Feel is lighter but not thin, malt driven, carbonation is too high for a proper doppelbock though. Gateway for the style

From the bottle, it pours a clear caramel color with a modest, soon diminishing, off-white head. In the nose, it is caramel, malt, dark fruit and alcohol. In the mouth, it hits you with caramel up front, with the roasted malts behind.

2023 update: yum!
