Enjoyed a single bottle poured into an English pub glass. I quite enjoyed this brew's bigger brother Twice As Mad Tom (see that review) and this one has many of the same charms. These guys have a pretty unique take on IPAs. A light golden yellow color with several inches of billowing white foam, this beer's aroma hits you with a ton of rich malt that almost evokes plums as opposed to the more typical caramel or toffee, mango and papaya spear tropical notes, sweet ripe smoky pineapple, and orange/tangerine rind along with some pine sap. Smells tropical yet rustic at the same time. Tastes like a classic Centennial hop bomb, with some orange juice, overripe peach, pineapple, white pepper, and vitamin tablet with aggressive pine that builds and builds as you go. Perhaps less sweet than Twice As Mad Tom but still massively tropical and piney, with the citrus and floral elements downplayed compared to many other IPAs. The malts make me think sweet graham cracker and a little campfire marshmellow (cool, a smore!) and like Twice As, this brew manages to couple pungent hopping and darkish malts particularly well. Semi-chewy body, a little prickly on the tongue, with a moderate degree of carbonation. Finishes long and wet, with lingering citrus, spice, and medicinal pine flavors as a calling card. Recommended to those who like their IPAs tropical, resinous, and a tad smoky.

One of the best beers available in Canada. The beer has a very rugged "outdoor" taste and the first mouthful is a strong reminder that this is not a typical beer you buy at the beer store. Strong sweet citrus taste at first that quickly reveals a hoppy flavour that fills your mouth and lingers for quite some time. The beer almost has a warming quality to it and it tastes great after a cold night. The slightly sour undertones remain in your mouth and the more you drink the more you become accustomed to the taste as your pallet gets used to it. Surprisingly refreshing the more you keep drinking and by the end you will be wanting more. Drink from a class for optimal smell and flavour, great beer for a night around the campfire or to have after shovelling snow. Refreshing with the perfect balance of hop, citrus and a flavour i cant really explain. I will keep buying as long as it is available!

Re-reviewing this one after drinking it a fair bit lately.

A - Poured a nice copper colour with a two finger fluffy white head. Bits in suspension. Good carbonaiton, good lace rings, and a finger of retention.

S - Piney, pineapple core, citrus. Pleasant.

T - Quite piney. Citrus and pineapple. A bit less strong than the aroma, but enjoyable and the pine comes out nicely.

M - Good bitterness, good carbonation, medium body. Good feel to it.

O/D - A pretty drinkable and enjoyable IPA. Upon first trying this I enjoyed it, but after a few years of drinking it, I realize its quality and recognize its importance in the Ontario brewing scene.
