This beer was awful enough to inspire me to sign up for an account at BA to write a review. I found the first sip and it's aftertaste to be enjoyable, with pumpkin and spice taste. However the sips beyond the first exposed that the mouthfeel and taste are below par.

Perhaps those with sweeter tastes will enjoy this beer, I thought. So I poured some for a few ladies that enjoy sweet beers. Both did not care for it at all, citing the poor taste and bad aftertaste. (468 characters)

Beautiful orange-tinged yellow color with an appealing white foam in the tall Maredsous glass. Lots of prickly carbonation. Strange smell of Jello and some sort of cupcake, however. I can't believe the weird spice is cinnamon.

The flavor starts with an uncomprehending moment as the citrus acidity, the bitterish spices, and the tart candy taste all roil about in the mouth. The flavor is like some tropical fruit soda with a touch of tamarind and butterscotch Lifesavers. The slight bitterness of undetermined origin does little to make this palatable.

This is one pumpkin that doesn't rise above the flotsam. The pleasant sudsy mouthfeel is the only redeeming feature. From the 12 oz bottle purchased at Trader Joe's. (721 characters)

Purchased at Trader Joes. Pours a light straw yellow with a thin white head that quickly fades. Aroma of... nasty sugar and faint pumpkin. Light bodied with a crisp carbonation. Flavors of pumpkin pie spice and a sweetness that is just... off. I'm not really sure how to describe it. This beer is pretty damn horrible. (318 characters)

12 oz bottle. Pours hazy straw yellow with a medium fizzy white head that quickly goes to a thin collar.

The aroma is pumpkin spices - nutmeg and cinnamon over some bready malts.

The flavor is sweet malts with a ton of pumpkin spices - nutmeg, cinnamon and some pepper. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with low, but spritzy, carbonation.

Overall, a bit of a spice bomb - not at all subtle over the smaller beer. But I enjoyed it. (439 characters)

Saw this at Trader Joes... Whole Foods (or whole paycheck, if you prefer), has a much better selection, but I was in a hurry, and wanted to try a new pumpkin ale. Anyway, on to the beer....

Pours into a pilsner, with an ugly yellow color ( I won't even dignify it with a "Corona yellow"), decent head that quickly dissolves into nothing.

Heavy cinnamon, and a patently artificial pumpkin nose. First sip has a watery mouthfeel, much like Bud or Miller Lite, with an overly sweet taste. Second and third sips rapidly devolve into nothingness. It tastes much like (as mentioned earlier), Budweiser with a cinnamon stick thrown in.

I cannot recommend this beer under any circumstances, barring something involving scorpions and tender regions. (744 characters)

Golden colored with a fingernail of off white head covering half of the top. Aroma is strongly of pumpkin pie spice, cinnamon, and nutmeg. The flavor is overly spiced pumpkin pie spice, cinnamon and nutmeg and is quite artificial. The mouth is heavily over carbonated and has excessive spices. (294 characters)

One of the misses at Trader Joe's. Doesn't have any pumpkin flavoring or aroma to it. Just looked and smelled the part of a yellow beer. Cinnamon might make me think of pumpkin pie, but not pumpkin itself.

Taste wasn't as bad as their ipa, but jeez, what is? Heavy on the spice and clove gimmick. Stays pretty light on the palate, even if you aren't really diggin' the taste.

$6 a 6er of this stuff is not worth it. Tough to drink, and at the price, better options. Seriously, Blue Moon's is better. (502 characters)

12 oz bottle from TJs.

A: pours a yellow-golden-amber color with a light haze and a fragile off-white head. Medium size carbonation bubbles rise continually.

S: A nice malty, pumpkin pie aroma with plenty of actual pumpkin squash aroma.

T: The flavor doesn't follow through as well as one might hope. There are notes of pumpkin squash along with some appropriate spices, but the illusion of a malty pumpkin pie is not present. Good mix and quantity of spicing; this is not one of the all-too-common over-spiced pumpkin ales. A little on the sweet side, but at a good level for the flavor profile. Relatively good finish and aftertaste.

M- Crisp; medium-high carbonation. Medium body.

O: an above average pumpkin at a below average price. (745 characters)

This beer pours a pale, straw yellow color, with a thick, white head. The head fades quickly, leaving no lacing.

This beer has a slightly spicy aroma. I smell some pumpkin, and some nutmeg. It has a slightly grainy aroma as well. I also smell a little cinnimon. All aromas are very subtle.

This beer tastes mostly of cinnimon. I taste some pumpkin spice, and a little nutmeg. That is pretty much it for flavor. As with the aroma, the flavor is very subtle.

This beer is a little over carbonated. It leaves a cinnimon like aftertaste.

I think this beer would make a decent session beer. I may get tired of the cinnimon flavor after a while though. Alcohol is low, so that wouldnt be a problem.

Overall: Although not my favorite beer from the style, I dont have a problem with this beer. I would buy it again. (812 characters)

Poured into a shaker pint glass, yielded a slight half inch head that quickly faded to a thin film, leaving no lacing down the glass. Aroma was pretty scarce with a muted bit of spice, and something a bit sour I couldn't quite grasp. The taste was about the same, with the spice, especially nutmeg and a bit of cinnamon and clove. I also got just a hint of pumpkin, and a slight bit of hop bitterness and the same sour taste as what I smelled. Mouthfeel was pretty thin, but fairly well carbonated, probably the biggest redeeming value of the beer. Overall, this is not the greatest representation of the style, told my wife not to buy this from Trader Joe's in the future. (674 characters)

2 singles purchased from Trader Joe's

Bottles reads Kennebunkport Brewing Company, my guess branded this way just for Trader Joe's. The Pugsley Brewing Company in Portland is where this is brewed and bottled. Along with Shipyard and Sea Dog, these are all under the same parent company. I wouldn't be surprised if this beer and Sea Dog's Pumpkin Ale are exactly the same.

It's orange in color (surprise!) with virtually no head. The initial scent is gumball, quite pungently sweet. Notes of cinnamon, nutmeg and pumpkin follow up. But really it's sickly sweet, tasting more like a soft drink than a beer.

Why did I buy 2? (625 characters)

12 oz. bottle into a pint glass. Clearly marked best-by date notched of March 2009.

Appearance: Not much carbonation or head retention to speak of, and a golden yellow color that should probably be a bit darker. Or at least I hoped it would be.

Smell: Malty sweet base with an interesting mix of cinnamon and nutmeg, and some seemingly real pumpkin in there. A little hint of metal and sourness.

Taste: More of a pumpkin-pie-in-a-bottle beer, but it does indeed taste like beer. The pumpkin, cinnamon, nutmeg, and vanilla are pronounced, and a bit spicy, which I like. But it doesn't have a long finish, and could use some tweaking and maybe some more hops.

Mouthfeel: A bit too cloying and medium-bodied, and lacks carbonation.

Drinkability: I think this could be a pretty solid pumpkin ale with some TLC. As it stands, I think I enjoyed it more than my review maybe lets on, but it has some things that are really lowering its potential, like the appearance and mouthfeel. Not as bad as the reviews say, and worth a shot. I wouldn't want to have more than maybe one or two at a sitting, but it did go down fairly easy. (1,130 characters)

Poured from a 12oz bottle into my Dogfish Head shaped pint glass.

Clear, metallic gold body with a light snow white smattering of foam up top. Decent retention and pasty delicate lacing.

Gentle citrus and pie spice in the nose - delicate and inviting.

Cinnamon, clove, and nutmeg converge on the palate supported by a soft, clean maltiness. Some tartness and a low vegetal note emerge, blooming into the crisp biting finish. Low but present bitterness and a faint sweetness throughout. Well balanced.

Zesty, lively, light bodied, well carbonated mouthfeel.

Not a bad pumpkin ale - a touch over-filtered for me, so you end up with more spice than pumpkin, but this is one of the better seasonals really. An easy drinking leaf-raking (as oppossed to lawn-mowing) beer I suppose... (784 characters)

A nice golden hue at first pour, with good foam, this seasonal smells of pumpkin and light spiciness initially, with maybe some nutmeg, cinnamon, and clove. Taste is a balanced mix of Fall flavors -- not overpowering or artificial at all, as some pumpkin ales tend to be. Actually, this one's among my favorites of the pumpkin beers -- mild, easygoing, and quite drinkable. (373 characters)

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a pint glass, this beer pours a golden straw in color with a touch of haze, and offers a half inch head that doesn't linger for long. Quite light in color.

Lots of cinnamon on the nose with some nutmeg notes. Some underlying rice as a backbone.

Taste/feel is light in body and has a lingering cinnamon and sugar flavor. A bit like a churro. Cinnamon again on the finish with perhaps just a hint of pumpkin meat and with a quick close. A bit artificial in a way but hard to pinpoint. There is a certain oddness to the spice notes in that I sense they are additives or finishing spices vs. something that actually spent some time in the boil. Drinks pretty easily given its light body, but would become tiring due to its one-sided approach. (774 characters)

Pours into a Pilsner with a white, quickly fading head and crystal-clear pale orange body. Smells and tastes like soda more than beer - sweet, carbonated, and light. It's definitely pumpkin, through and through. It goes down smoothly and tastes a little like beer as it disappears. It reminds me a bit of Sam Adams Cherry Wheat, with a different fruit. A nice drink, but lacking as a real beer.

Still, it's very autumnal and at least tonight, with dry leaves and cool air, it's good enough for seconds. I'll buy another 6er next fall, but that's probably it's place in the beer world. (586 characters)

Pours a medium yellow gold with a quickly dissipating head. Smell is mainly spices with a vague malt note. Taste likewise is mainly spice with a slightly redeeming light creamy malt undertone. Mouthfeel is creamy yet with a slightly tart pleasant finish. Because of the above qualities the drinkability is good. (311 characters)
