12 oz bottle served in a Deschutes snifter. I found this bottle in my parent's fridge and no one knows how it got there.

A: Pours a clear amber color with with thick white head forming on the pour. It recedes slowly, but no lace is left behind.

S: Pumpkin flesh, lager yeast and notes of pale malt with some light cinnamon. A littler mineral water as well.

T: Old/rotting pumpkin flesh. Some mettalic/tin like tastes and then a huge rush of cinnamon. It's like chewing on a cinnamon stick.

M: Light bodied, standard carbonation and drinkability.

O: Wasn't terrible, but definitely over spiced and the mineral water flavors weren't a turn on. Will not revisit.

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a pint glass, this beer pours a golden straw in color with a touch of haze, and offers a half inch head that doesn't linger for long. Quite light in color.

Lots of cinnamon on the nose with some nutmeg notes. Some underlying rice as a backbone.

Taste/feel is light in body and has a lingering cinnamon and sugar flavor. A bit like a churro. Cinnamon again on the finish with perhaps just a hint of pumpkin meat and with a quick close. A bit artificial in a way but hard to pinpoint. There is a certain oddness to the spice notes in that I sense they are additives or finishing spices vs. something that actually spent some time in the boil. Drinks pretty easily given its light body, but would become tiring due to its one-sided approach.

Kennebunkport Pumpkin Ale poured a clear dark gold/light orange hue with a think white head. Very spicy aroma consisting of cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, etc. All standard for a pumpkin ale.

Taste closely matches aroma. Cinnamon stands out among a vague honey sweetness with a slight dryness in the finish. Lacking in everything, except spices. Has somewhat of a medicine quality with all of the spices mixed together.

Mouthfeel was fine. Light on the palate and ample carbonation. Certainly not the best pumpkin ale out there, but serviceable if you're in the mood for one and can tolerate both the lack of depth and high spiciness.

A- Golden orange, completely clear and fizzy. Pours with a 1 finger head that dies down quickly with no lacing.

S- Smell is very faint but I can pick out the pumpkin flavor, an intense sweetness and a big amount of spices.

T- Tastes like pumpkin bread. Mettalic tinge at the end that didnt bug me at first but as I got to the bottom of the beer really started to make me feel like I was drinking something from a BMC.

M- A bit thin and very carbonated.

D- I dig the taste for something this price and I definitely don't regret drinking it but something this sweet is more of a novelty then something you could drink a few of. For the price at trader joes it definitely was at least on par with what I expected.

12 fl oz brown glass bottle with standard pressure cap acquired at Trader Joe's Culver City yesterday and served into a Uinta pilsner glass in me gaff in low altitude Los Feliz, California. Reviewed live. Expectations are average given the brewery. I'm in the mood for a good pumpkin ale. 4.7% ABV confirmed. No visible best before date.

Served after a period of rest from the refrigerator. Side-poured with standard vigor as no carbonation issues are anticipated.

Paired with pretzels.

A: Pours a five finger beige colour head of nice cream, fair thickness, and good retention - though the ABV is fairly low. Body colour is a clear translucent pale yellow. No yeast particles are visible. Not particularly vibrant. No bubble show. Meh.

Sm: Pumpkin, spice, a hint of brown sugar. Fresh palt malts and barley. A pleasant aroma, and surprisingly evocative for a beer at this price point. Average strength.

T: Pumpkin - definitely on the climax. Real pumpkin too; doesn't feel artificial. Clean malts form the simple foundation. Some spice comes through, particularly nutmeg and cinnamon. Really a simply built beer, but balanced. A bit bland on the open; couldn't they make it creamy or something? In any case, it fits the bill for this style at this price point. Some bland somewhat stale barley closes it out. A bit too sweet. Too sugary (brown sugar) in the third act. This problem becomes clear as you get further down the bottle. No yeast comes through. No bubble show.

Mf: Nicely coarse and wet. Good thickness. Suits the flavours generally well. Carbonation is good.

Dr: Over-spiced with cinnamon and just all around simple. I might pick it up if I want a budget pumpkin ale. There's more pumpkin flavour here than in many pumpkin beers I've tried at much higher price points, so that's a plus. And it is well-priced. Would make a good introduction to pumpkin ales, but I couldn't bring myself to recommend it. Another forgettable brew from KBC. Still, I look forward to buying whatever KBC beer Trader Joe's stocks that I haven't had in future. As far as budget beers go, KBC is a dependable brand.

I bought a six pack of this from a local Trader Joe's. Poured into a lager glass with a fizzy white head. The nose had cinnamon and almost a sour smell. Tasted a bit bland with a slight hint of cinnamon and nutmeg. The body was very light and fizzy. Overall reminded me of a bud light with cinnamon, didn't even really taste like pumpkin to me.

12 oz bottle. Pours hazy straw yellow with a medium fizzy white head that quickly goes to a thin collar.

The aroma is pumpkin spices - nutmeg and cinnamon over some bready malts.

The flavor is sweet malts with a ton of pumpkin spices - nutmeg, cinnamon and some pepper. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with low, but spritzy, carbonation.

Overall, a bit of a spice bomb - not at all subtle over the smaller beer. But I enjoyed it.

Pours a hazy light orange with a foamy tan head that settles to an oily film on top of the beer. Small streaks of lace slowly drip into the remaining beer on the drink down. Smell is of malt and a lot of pumpkin pie spices. Taste is of malt, brown sugar, and pumpkin pie spices. There is a mild spice bitterness on the palate with each sip. There is a bit of a dirt-like aroma and flavor I am also getting as the beer warms up. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty poor beer with a weird dirt presence that is not enjoyable.

Second Review of this one. Somehow, it's gotten worse.

A: Clear golden color with a thin head that fades really quickly.

S: More like a pumpkin bread aroma than pumpkin pie. Hints of kind of gross bready yeast in the back.

T: Ugh. A hint of pumpkin, but the beer is thin and watery and has a pretty awful yeast and bread flavor that it seems like all of these Kennebunkport beers have. Tastes like an artificial pumpkin flavored adjunct. Somehow, it isn't the worst of Kennebunkport's beers, but that doesn't mean it's any good.

A: Clear golden color with a small white head.

S: Not as much pumpkin as pumpkin pie spice. Nutmeg, cloves and cinnamon. As the beer warms, these smells start to feel a little forced, like they were added a little too artificially.

T: When it's cold, the spices hold up, but as it warms, it starts to taste like Bud Lite. If you're going to try this, have it pretty cold. Not good otherwise.

"natural flavor added"

a: Already disappointed by the color of this one, pale golden with a hint of amber. Fizzy white head recedes to a respectable ring.

smell and taste: Smells like macro lager and pumpkin spice, and tastes the same. On the nose I get dry pale grains and a lightly sweet, fruity spice. Cant' tell if I'm picking up on some squashy aromas, but it's possible. Black licorice and leaves if I try. Dominant spice aroma smells of cinnamon and maybe some nutmeg. The tongue follows suit, with weak pale grains and a fake, almost Red Hot candy type cinnamon. Watery. Pale lager grain aftertaste, lightly hopped all around. Nothing offensive anywhere I guess, but very "safe". Aroma comes close to enjoyable.

m: Carbonation bordering on high, with a light body. Dry.

d: Easy I suppose, but not a very rewarding experience. My least favorite pumpkin of all. The macro lager of pumpkin ales.

Pours into a Pilsner with a white, quickly fading head and crystal-clear pale orange body. Smells and tastes like soda more than beer - sweet, carbonated, and light. It's definitely pumpkin, through and through. It goes down smoothly and tastes a little like beer as it disappears. It reminds me a bit of Sam Adams Cherry Wheat, with a different fruit. A nice drink, but lacking as a real beer.

Still, it's very autumnal and at least tonight, with dry leaves and cool air, it's good enough for seconds. I'll buy another 6er next fall, but that's probably it's place in the beer world.

A - Very little head, which disappears quickly. Looks more like a soft drink than a beer. If it was not a pumpkin ale, appearance would be a 2, but I gave an extra point because I think the orange color suits it.

S - Very mild smell, again more reminiscent of a soft drink than a beer. Not unpleasant, but does not contribute anything to the overall experience.

T - Pleasant, mild taste, but yet again the taste is of a pumpkin soda rather than a pumpkin ale. Definite pumpkin flavor, however, which I appreciated. The flavor kicks in more on the aftertaste than in the initial contact.

M - Four for four so far in being more soda-like than ale-like, but in this case it's so watery that I would expect a better mouthfeel from a soda.

O - It's a pleasant, mild drink - nothing offensive, just nothing especially good, either. Would probably be good as a light Summer beverage on its own, but is too weak to pair with food and is not good when you're in a specific "beer" mood.

Okay, folks, that's my first review here. I didn't pick the greatest beer to start with, but hopefully I did all right.

From fall brew tasting notes (2010): Pours a crystal clear, golden-bronze colored body with a thin, fizzy, white head that dissipates quickly into a thin lacing. Aroma is pumpkin pie and cinnamon. Not very malty, more spiced, candy based. Flavor is thin and watery pumpkin pie spices with some sweeter caramel and strong cinnamon. Finishes with no real character after a thin body and fizzy carbonation. Overall, a distinct pumpkin flavored beer, but not very rounded or balanced. Watery with a little too much spice and not enough malts.

Kennebunkport Pumpkin Ale
12 oz brown bottle
Best before May 08
Served in a 16 oz Harpoon IPA glass (which underutilize)

Pours a light orange with little fizzy bubbles. Decent head, but minimal head retention.

The nose is weak. Whiffs of cinnamon sticks.

Eh. The mouthfeel is a big problem. Watery with a seltzer paper annoyance.

Fall flavors like candy corn, cinnamon, all spice and nutmeg blend together. The unfortunate piece is this beer is lacking quality. I taste an artificial twang or splenda sweetness. I'll finish this beer, but probably not purchase again.

Procured by the significant other.

A: One shade darker than urine after a night of drinking. No head to speak of. Zero lacing.

S: Allspice is strong. No cinnamon or clove to speak of.

T: Just bland and stale. Most likely past its prime. Really just bland. More like an ale with a little spice than a pumpkin ale.

M: Well carbonated and it feels full in your mouth.

D: Not for me. Drainpour.

12 oz bottle from Trader Joe's. Best by June 08 notched on label

A: Clear golden, slight amber color with a thick off white head, decent retention, not much lacing.
S: Grain, smells like a typical light beer but then in the background pumpkin pie.
T: Tastes like liquid pumpkin pie, but not overly strong. This isn't great, but is certainly drinkable, compared to some of the other beers in this line from TJ. Grainy, slightly sweet aftertaste. A little pepper spicing it up.
M: Body similar to a wheat beer. Thicker than the appearance would suggest. Not overly carbonated.
D: Not great, not terrible. My favorite of the kennebunkport beers TJ is selling. Still not anywhere near my favorite pumpkin beer, but for the price and availability I'd be tempted to pick up a few next year, especially for friends.

12oz bottle with Best By July 2012 notched on the side of the label. Seems like a long shelf life for a 4.7% Pumpkin Ale!

Pours a pale yellow-orange color with plenty of visible carbonation. Pour yielded one finger of white colored foam that has settle to a thin layer covering about half of the beer. Very little in the way of lacing.

Smells almost like a cream soda with cinnamon added. Kind of an artificial floral aroma reminiscent of an autumn scented candle. Doesn't smell bad, just doesn't smell like beer.

Thin and carbonated up front. Cinnamon and vanilla flavors start to surface towards the middle. A bit of a perfume like flavor in the finish. It's a bit off-putting.

Thin and over-carbonated mouthfeel with a strange artificial finish that lingers on the palate.

A below average Pumpkin Ale overall. Way too thin and fizzy for a fall beer.

Morey's Bottom Line: Why not brew this with real pumpkin? I got a sixer of this stuff as a gift. I appreciate people thinking of me (I really do), but in cases like this...It makes you wish that they would have called first.

12 oz bottle poured into a pint glass from McMenamins Edgefield

A - standard brown bottle. Old timey artwork. Best before marker (6/12). "Ale with natural flavor added." Hmm. Not the most enticing but not terrible.

Pours with a minimal amount of white head. Carbonation bubbles do rise to the top for a long time though and a tiny ring of white foam around the edge persists. The beer is a rather clear golden amber. It looks a little like a adjunct lager with just a hint of fall color.

S - Initial aroma is somewhat unpleasant combination of yeast and nutmeg. This settles down quickly and a slightly improved nutmeg aroma is present with every sip.

T - taste is not very complex. It really does taste like a pretty base (flavorless) ale with nutmeg and other pumpkin pie flavors added to it. It's not an offensive flavor, though. Just not that complex.

M - thin mouthfeel. Slight astringency on the tongue. A little dry in the aftertaste.

O - not bad for the price. Pretty accessible and could possibly be a gateway beer to real gateway beers. A very safe choice to bring over to a fall dinner if you aren't sure how a more complex beer will be received.

bottle BB april 09. damn pumpkin beers get the better of me... bastards!

pours a bit emaciated... clear orange with a small white head which doesn't want to stick around.

lots of spice in the nose though little to no actual pumpkin to speak of... sweet (maybe grains but not really. just sweet.), nutmeg, fake plastic-y floral smell and a lager yeast aroma akin to the cheap stuff.

the palate is quite dry given the sugary aroma. again, it's really spicy with mild/sparse pumpkin/earthiness, faint caramel-y malt and that same plastic-y taste on the finish. light bodied with prickly carbonation which makes it acidic and a bit harsh.

i tried to like this, i really did.

12 oz bottle. Pours hazy-yellow with a long lasting white head. Aroma is sour at first followed by pumpkin and bready malt. Body is medium and smooth. A lot of pumpkin, hints of malt and hops fill the mouth. Finish is long and very pumpkin. Too much pumpkin for me.

Meh. Mediocre light beer with no real flavor of its own, with lots of pumpkin spice flavoring added. Kind of slick mouthfeel with some moderate carbonation. Won't bother with this one again.

One of the misses at Trader Joe's. Doesn't have any pumpkin flavoring or aroma to it. Just looked and smelled the part of a yellow beer. Cinnamon might make me think of pumpkin pie, but not pumpkin itself.

Taste wasn't as bad as their ipa, but jeez, what is? Heavy on the spice and clove gimmick. Stays pretty light on the palate, even if you aren't really diggin' the taste.

$6 a 6er of this stuff is not worth it. Tough to drink, and at the price, better options. Seriously, Blue Moon's is better.

A decent looking brew. Frothy white head sits proudly on top of a pale wheat colored vibrant body. Champagne like carbonation. Sliding lace.

Hmmmm odd. Not terrible, not good, just odd. Like an american wheat beer meets a sweet fruit beer. Except the wheat tends to jumble this up and make it too spent grainlike tasting. Sweet potatoes and cinnamon are among the slight pumpkin taste. A bit of pepper tries to sharpen things up. Lingering layer of sweetness remains on the palate.

Notes: I wasn't much for this debacle. It was drinkable but not worth the coin. Thin and lacks any complexity.

if i've learned one thing about beers, it's that if the location isn't prominently displayed, it's usually not worth it. it is very light for my taste, and it's as if the pumpkin spice is added in during the bottling phase, much like the lemon flavor of a summer shandy. the six pack was bought for me, so i'm not complaining too much.

2 singles purchased from Trader Joe's

Bottles reads Kennebunkport Brewing Company, my guess branded this way just for Trader Joe's. The Pugsley Brewing Company in Portland is where this is brewed and bottled. Along with Shipyard and Sea Dog, these are all under the same parent company. I wouldn't be surprised if this beer and Sea Dog's Pumpkin Ale are exactly the same.

It's orange in color (surprise!) with virtually no head. The initial scent is gumball, quite pungently sweet. Notes of cinnamon, nutmeg and pumpkin follow up. But really it's sickly sweet, tasting more like a soft drink than a beer.

Why did I buy 2?
