A: 2.5 finger head with nice lacing on a cloudy golden with a subtle crimson hue.

S: nice aroma with mostly lemon and orange. some wheat and grain.

T: overall a little watery, especially in the finish. Mild lemon note and actually some mild bitter hops as well.

M: a little more full than I was expecting. Moderate to high carbonation.

Overall: Flavor is a little strange and too watery. Still drinkable but average overall.

Pours clear!(Where's the yeast?) Light amber yellow with a medium white head that is too quickly gone. Does leave some nice lacing though.

Smell is vinous wheat, and a hint of grass.

Taste is even and smooth, not very wheaty/yeasty, more like a pilsner.

The beer is easy to drink and very crisp and refreshing, but it's needs more body.

Overall, a pretty good pilsner, oh, wait, it's supposed to be a wheat beer. Epic fail on the wheat. No yeast particles, none of the wheat tang I want. Very thin. If this was labeled as a pilsner, I would have scored this higher, since it's labeled, and/or brewed wrong, I give the first one in my review history.

Tasted May 15th 2011 (from notes)

Poured into a la Chouffe tulip

A - translucent golden pale, one finger white head, soapy and no lacing

S - sweet wheat, sweet yeast, apples, pils hops, cane sugar and some grass

T - soapy, sweet and sour yeast, pilsner hops, apples, sour grass, oak and lots of wheat

M - crisp, light, low acidity and medium finish

D - drinks like a Wheatish budwieser but taste better

Final thought - at $5 a sixer and 5%ABV this one if for the ladies!

Not sure why this has such poor reviews; it's no one's idea of a perfect wheat beer, but it's decent enough, esp. for the price ($3.99 for a 6-pack at Trader Joe's, at least for the time being) in my area. It has some wheat character, enough to set it apart from most American macros, and it's a nice change of pace at a moderate ABV. Kind of thing that looks different enough to bring to a party and not be embarassed. Good taste, easy to drink, nice label.

I poured this beer into my tumbler at 50 degrees. The beer was cloudy and poured no head or lacing at all. The beer was nice and blod. The taste was a bit citrus like and very clean and refreshing. I was stunned there was no typical sourness to the beer. It was very nice for a wheat beer and is one of the best wheat beer I have ever had. I would buy again.

Not much wheat in this there aroma. Seems a little closer to a cream ale (without the corn) and then it just fades away altogether.
Fizzy white cap that leaves before I could get to it. Brilliantly clear golden body. Can't give any credit hear cuz' if it truly had wheat the head would stick around for more than 30 seconds.
Where in the hell is the wheat? There is definitely hops with a mild flavor and a growing bitterness and dryness. Soft grainy barley. A little acidic. Slight tartness. Sharp prickly carbonation and fullness from that too. Body even carries a little heft.
I'm not sure what the heck this is. I'll drink it, cuz' it's not offensive or flawed in any way (and I'm thirsty), but I'm not going back to it again.

Another purchase from Trader Joe's.

Clear gold colored beer with a very short lived white head.

Smells of malt and saltine crackers. And that's it, a little sweet but it basically smells like crackers.

Starts out tasting like not much of anything except a cracker. Little bit of herbal hop flavor and crackers is what I taste next. Seriously, this is so bland it could be called Budweiser.

Mouthfeel is OK.

Pretty freaking BLAND. Doesn't taste bad, more like it doesn't taste at all. I can't recommend that you buy this.

Pours a clear golden body with a small white head. Has none of the hazy qualities or bottom-dwelling yeast, and seems to be filtered. The nose offers little of interest. Aside from a dull whiff of distant grains and hint of lemon, there's nothing else (no bananas, no cloves, nothing one would expect from a wheat beer). Even the taste is not very wheaty. It tastes like a lemony lager with a bit of alfalfa. I buy wheat beer because I like their wheatiness, I quality this beer sorely lacks.

Clear straw yellow with a thin layer of white bubbles on top. Fair head retention with some transient, streaky lacing. Big, lemony aroma with a bit of wheat. The citrus was almost sharp and bordering on seeming artificial. Pretty much the same in the flavour, a bit of dry maltiness, low bitterness. Light bodied and dry, carbonation was low. Overall, it was fairly bland and lacking in memorable character.

Served in a Walter Payton shaker pint glass.

Another random TJ's beer bein' rocked with Sweetness. Right on. It pours a clear brass topped by a finger of white foam. The nose comprises wheat, dusty biscuits, and flowers. The taste hols notes of old orange rind, light vinyl, light lemon peel, bad dark greens, and a touch of mild honey. It does not come together well at all, instead providing a rather unpleasant jolt to the 'buds. The body is a hefty-leaning light, with a moderate carbonation and a rather dry finish. Overall, a pretty sad beer, one I don't think I'll ever have again.

Appearance: Golden yellow, with a thin white head that rapidly fell.

Smell: Meh, not much to say. Very minimal floral notes from the hops. But it isn't very aromatic in general.

Taste: Pretty much the same as the smell: not much. It's lacking almost all identifiable features. Light hop bitterness, minimal wheat taste. Really sub par

Mouthfeel: Thin, not watery, mid-high carbonation. It's okay.

Overall: Below average. Better than BMC of course, but no where near anything that I would recommend to a friend. Avoid.

Poured from the bottle into a weizen glass

A- Pours a clear straw yellow with a two finger soapy head, high visible carbonation. Leaves no lacing.

S- Wheat, nondescript sweetness, some graininess, and yeast

T- Wheat, strong yeast notes, some graininess, but not all that much. Has some sweetness and very mild bitterness.

M- Prickly carbonation, goes down smooth, and finishes dry

O- This really is not a bad beer, maybe not the most exciting beer. It is pretty simple, not a lot of complexity in the taste or aroma, but it is refreshing and there is nothing offensive or off putting in the taste or aroma either. Just an average beer.

Pours a gold color with very slight haze and a thin, quickly diminishing head. Clean citrus and subtle wheat aroma with a pinch of diacetyl. Sweet grainy flavor over a lemon peel and hay bitterness. Something that might be perceived as a wheaty "twang" makes an appearance, but otherwise there is nothing "wheat beer" about this. Medium-light, crisp, and effervescent. Not wretchedly horrible or anything, it's just not good at all.

A - a light/pale straw color that is surprisingly clear. Very thin head that doesn't stay for too long. maybe 1/2cm and it goes down pretty quickly with no lacing.

S - This smells like a wheat beer with the yeast profile forward for sure. Not something I like too much, so I don't drink too many wheat beers, but I was in the mood and it was inexpensive as a single. A hint of spicyness to it as well.

T - This tastes as I expected it to. A solid, though nondescript, wheat beer. Not bad and worth drinking.

M - This is a light beer that has been well carbonated, maybe even a little overcarbonated. The wheat gives it more body though, so its not too light.

D - I would get this again if I just wanted a wheat beer and didn't care. For the discerning wheat beer drinkers out there, go with something a little nicer.

From Trader Joe’s. Current batch is called "KBC Wheat Beer - Kennebunkport Brewing Co." And on the side is "brewed and bottled by Pugsley Brewing, Portland, Maine."

Handsome golden color and nice head in the snifter. All downhill from there. Kind of a basement smell with wet newspaper. Tannic taste like cheap weak tea. Well, it does have a hint of wheat maltiness if you use your imagination. More on the grapefruit peel kind of bitterness but it must have a touch of hops. Sparkling mouthfeel like cheap champagne. If only it had a little malty sweetness or body. Not actually bad, just not very beery.

Kennebun....what? The name looks like a tongue twister, but a slow glance at the name makes it more readable. Best before date is notched on the side of the label, at January 2012. On to the beer:

A kristalweizen? A bright lager? Still, the translucnet golden straw color, filled with springy bubbles rising to the top, and foam two finer's thick and solid lace, has its appeal. The nose surprises; it's got some sort of mango aroma with some cream of wheat that's making me crave my first sip.

Bummer. Keenebunkport could have pumped more flavor into this beer. From the aroma, it maintains much of that cream of wheat flavor, but much of the mango is almost non-existent. Vague fruitiness too. Hops are there, but seem processed and sharp. Mouthfeeel dissapoints with its slick feel; this is not what I really want lingering around. To the end...

Passable, but lacking in character. That's all folks.

Single 12 oz. bottle obtained from Trader Joe's. Pours a brilliantly clear golden straw with half an inch of white foam. Offers decent retention given a steady carbonation boil. Yet oddly clear and filtered.

Nose of neutral grain and a bit of lemon. Hint of wheat after some agitation.

Surprisingly bready texture given the nose. Bit of pepper spice and thin lemon bread. Touch of chewy sweet lemon oil on the finish. Tends towards additives yet holds the line as for legitimacy.

Feel is lightly sweet and offers a touch of lemon once again. Smooth and crisp per se, yet a bit too clean. Bit cider like in the end given the filtered lemon nature of the beer. Not too bad, but not much in the wheat department either.

Bought this at Trader Joes the other day. I see that there haven't been any reviews of this since '09 so I'm guessing that this is one that Kennebunkport just decided to bring out of retirement.

A: Very pale golden color with a lasting 1/2 inch head. Very clear color, which isn't really what I've come to expect from a wheat beer. Tons of bubbles rising from the bottom of the glass.

S: When I first poured it, it smelled exactly like Pyramid Apricot. Lots of artificial-smelling apricot aromas. As it warms, it takes on a sort of cleaning supply-like smell, almost like you would find when walking down the bleach aisle of a Target.

T: There's really just not much taste here. There's a little bit of a lemon-like sourness that doesn't taste intentional. Other than that, I'm not getting any hint of wheat. I get a grainy flavor and then a really yeasty-bready flavor that's just straight gross. Avoid this.

Bottle from Trader Joe's for $5.99, with no alcohol concentration. Best if before March 10. Thin light colored beer with poor head retention.

Smell is very fruity and strange, not what I would expect from a wheat beer. This is only slightly reflected in the taste. It seems like there's a lot going on in this beer, but it's all very subdued. Has a bit of malt in it, which I like, but the fruity flavors and floral hops are not going together well at all.

Overall thin and refreshing. Seems over-carbonated. Not a bad beer for the price, but I probably woulnd't buy it again.

A- Dark gold with a half finger head.

S- Exremely fruity with some medicinal notes.

T- This beer is all over the place. Bubble gum, odd fruit flavors, plus other flavors I'd rather not track down.

M- Light body and low carbonation.

D- Maybe if it was really hot out, otherwise, no.

I wanted to say something good about this but I just couldn't find it.

Appearance: Pours a clear, yellow body with a thin, short-lived, white head.

Smell: Sweetish wheat nose with a vague, indistinct note of fruit. Yawn.

Taste: Sweet, lightly tangy wheat malt followed up with a few drops of lemon juice. Very subdued hop character and imparted bitterness. Drying, lightly crisp finish.

Mouthfeel: Medium-thin body. Medium carbonation.

Drinkability: This one's utterly bland and lacking from top to bottom. Not recommended.

From a twelve ounce brown bottle - Pours a straw yellow color with a tad of haze and not much carbonation or head. Smells of sweet cereal grains and floral hops dominate the nose. First sip is all stale Wheaties with light hops adding some bitterness. There is not much here to get excited about.

A - Poured out a slightly cloudy, orange/amber color with a small, short-lived, white head. No lacing at all.

S - It smelled of wheat, citrus and some fruity notes.

T - It tasted fairly malty for a wheat. There was an odd fruitiness with some wheat taste. It just didn't fit.

M - It was crisp and sharp with a smooth finish. A light bodied beer.

D - This was just a confused beer. It didn't taste like a wheat beer at all.

Poured from 12oz brown bottle into a clear short pilsner glass. Frehsness date on front label.

A: Uninspired pale yellow with 2-finger foamy white head with average retention and decent lacing.

S: Mild lemongrass and some vegetable aroma

T: Minimal lemon tang and otherwise watery. Finish is a little metallic and vegetably

M: Thin, watery, and overcarbonated with a metallic, vegetable aftertaste

D: Not hard to drink except for your can't stop the aftertaste until your next beer starts -- so I guess it helps your overall drinking by shrinking the interval between beers but that's about it. Not recommended.

Pours a clear golden color with hardly any head at all, therefore no retention. Lacing is non-existent. Low carbonation and little head makes the smell very weak; a hint of sweet malt. Not a real good example of the style (weak head, not long lasting, low carbonation). A weaker body and smoother feel make it easy to drink, but not what I wanted from a Wheat. A grassy flavor along with a lager background. Not any hops that I noticed. Overall, not a great wheat at all. Maybe a good starter beer for a beginner only used to american adjuncts, but otherwise bland.
